Description:
Meteorological instruments suspended at a distance of 60 feet directly below the front rotor of a Piasecki Helicopter (HUP-1) are in free and undisturbed air at all flying speeds above 5 knots according to data scaled from motion picture photographs of wake and smoke-plume intersection positions. These data are applicable to any other type of helicopter having the same or a smaller vertical component of wake velocity as that of the craft used in this experiment.
