Description:
Certain shortcomings in existing presentations of the Coriolis principle are discussed. These center about a common failure to develop a sufficiently clear understanding of the role played by the reference system in Newtonian mechanics. A systematic development of the Coriolis principle is outlined as an example of how some of the shortcomings may be met.
