Description:
Shark cartilage contains a substance that strongly inhibits the growth of new blood vessels toward solid tumors, thereby restricting tumor growth. The abundance of this factor in shark cartilage, in contrast to cartilage from mammalian sources, may make sharks an ideal source of the inhibitor and may help to explain the rarity of neoplasms in these animals.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Lee, A -- Langer, R -- EY04002/EY/NEI NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1983 Sep 16;221(4616):1185-7.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6193581" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
