Description:
Author(s): Pierre A. Haas and Raymond E. Goldstein Some organisms finalize their embryonic development by inverting themselves, and this paper presents an elastic theory to explain the inversion mechanism. The authors analyze a particular scheme in which four lips peel back progressively to flip the embryo inside out. This framework successfully reproduces a number of experimental observations and sets the stage for a discussion of circumstances when the inversion is hindered. [Phys. Rev.
