Description:    Copper precipitation has been studied by thermoelectric power measurements in a high strength interstitial free steel processed under various conditions like batch annealing (BA) (4 hours at 973 K (700 °C)), continuous annealing (CA) (1 minute at 1093 K (820 °C)) and full annealing (FA) (2 hours at 1173 K (900 °C)). The results show that the kinetics of copper precipitation depend on the annealing pre-treatments which influence the amount of copper in solid solution before aging. Extensive copper precipitation associated with a marked increase in hardness was observed in the CA and FA material aged between 773 K and 873 K (500 °C and 600 °C), however, this precipitation was not detected when the steel was subjected to BA before aging.
