    Description: A technique for the direct comparison of LDV signal processors is developed, based on the use of a data base of digitized signal bursts obtained from an LDV under various configurations. This data base can be used to evaluate the response of signal processors and processor algorithms to specific signal characteristics and not to generalized simplistic waveforms. Examples from such a data base are presented to illustrate the capabilities of the proposed method. This data base includes signal ensembles obtained with three laser power settings at two transmitted focal lengths.
