Scheduling is a prevalent function that is omnipresent throughout many industries and applications (Pinedo, 1995; Morton & Pentico, 1993; Zweben & Fox, 1994; Brown & Scherer, 1995). A great need exists for developing scheduling toolkits that can be generically applied to a number of different scheduling problems. To meet this need, more research is warranted for developing a state-of-the-art generic constraint problem-solver as related to scheduling. This paper discusses the development and testing of the Generically Used Expert Scheduling System (GUESS).
