Notes: For a broad class of potentials, we show that the nonvariational (so-called Hill-determinant) intuitive identification of binding energies with zeros of certain infinite determinants may be given a rigorous mathematical foundation. The essence of the construction lies in an appropriate restriction of the class of the admissible Ansätze. This eliminates the undesirable confluence of the physical and unphysical components of ψ(r) that may take place in the general case.
