The quantization of the superclassical system used in the proof of the index theorem results in a factor of ((h-dash-bar)2/8)R in the Hamiltonian. The path integral expression for the kernel is analyzed up to and including the two-loop order. The existence of the scalar curvature term is confirmed by comparing the linear term in the heat kernel expansion with the two-loop order terms in the loop expansion. In the operator formalism this term arises from the fermionic sector whereas in the path integral formulation it comes from the bosonic sector.
