Notes: A new technique is presented for measuring vibrational dynamics in excited electronic states. A vibronic state is prepared by a picosecond laser pump pulse. This state is then probed by monitoring transitions to vibrational states of the ion by a delayable picosecond probe pulse. The cross section for transitions to specific ion vibrational states gives information about the time evolution of the initially prepared intermediate state. This technique is demonstrated for several vibronic states in the S1 state of fluorene.
