Notes:
Reveals that the use of e-mail has grown dramatically in the last three years, however, it is a relatively insecure transmission medium, unsuitable, in any unmodified form, for sensitive managers. The PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) program which has been developed to add encryption to e-mail is well known. Reports on the working of such encryption programmes and ways in which such encryption can be integrated into mainstream e-mail packages so that it is available to non-specialist users - bearing mind the need for adherence to (at least) de facto standards and the necessity for good documentation in support of easy-to-use software.
