Notes:
Summary Explanatory phase coefficients according to Abraham et al. are calculated from McReynolds index differences and the phase constant B. The retention expression (log Vg)−A=BI/100 connects specific retention volumes and retention indices. McReynolds phase constants and Abrahams explanatory coefficients can be used with similar accuracy for the prediction of relative retention data and for the characterization of stationary phases in gas chromatography. The application of polarity constants for the characterization of stationary phases is discussed.
