Abstract:
Notes:
Summary Separation of very small amounts of three alkaloids, strychine, morphine and quinine, from impure samples and biological mixtures was tested by continuous preparative electrophoresis, termed micro electrochromatophoresis. Separations could be achieved from extracts of biological mixtures and from blood without extraction when the amounts of alkaloid were sufficient. The substances were collected in pure form in micro test tubes, where they could be identified by the common alkaloidal reactions. A technique of detecting alkaloid by feeding picric acid to the paper during the separation is described. Where the picric acid stream intersects the alkaloid stream, the alkaloidal picrate is deposited as an insoluble yellow residue.
