    Notes: Abstract The switching effect in bulk semiconductor glasses Bi29Tl35Se36 was investigated. The switching (threshold) voltage V th varies exponentially with the temperatures. Moreover V th was found to increase linearly with thickness; annealing of the samples improves the I–V characteristics and V th decreases with the annealing temperature. The experimental results were attributed to an electrothermal mechanism involving joule heating of a current channel.
