Summary In this paper a mathematical model for the longterm optimisation of high voltage networks is presented. By means of an approximated loadflow, together with a fast method for correcting the inverted matrix in case of the outage of a line or generator, the weak points of the network are determined first. Then possible reinforcement candidates are defined using sensitivity- and cost analysis. From the so determined weak points and candidates a multiperiod decision problem with linear constraints is formulated, which is solved by an exact and an heuristic method of zero-one programming. Finally the expansion of a network over a period of 25 years is shown.
