Abstract The voltage drop and current distribution in a chlorine-caustic cell using an anode with a titanium substrate was estimated for several geometric arrangements of the titanium mesh and associated supports and conducting elements. The cell was modelled with a three-dimensional grid network and Kirchoff's law applied to each node. Results were applied to the design of anodes for a full-scale cell which was put in operation and showed the anticipated voltage improvement.
