Notes: Abstract If agroforestry technologies are to be generated rapidly and effectively there has first to be established a sound basis for research methodology. This may entail no more than a ‘repackaging’ of existing experimental agricultural or forestry techniques, in other cases new approaches will need to be investigated. Some of the special problems relevant to experimenting with multipurpose trees are noted. ICRAF has available a set of source materials and guidelines on ‘Research Methodology for the Exploration and Assessment of Multipurpose Trees’ which are listed, and the establishment of an informal ‘Experimental Agroforestry Network’ is mentioned.
