Summary 1. It was shown that, when perfluoroisobutene and perfluoropropene react with alcohols and amines, not only addition occurs, but also replacement of the vinylic fluorine atom. The specific gravity and refractive index varied from one experiment to another. The results of elementary analysis were intermediate between those required for N,N-diethylpentafluoropropenylamine and those required for N,N-diethyl-1-1,2,3,3,3-hexafluoropropylamine. 2. The addition and substitution products so obtained were submitted to various reactions with formation of various derivatives of 3,3,3-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl) propionic and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropionic acids. 3. It was found that, with ammonia, perfluoroisobutene and perfluoropropene give 3,3,3-trifluoro-2-(tri-fluoromethyl) propionitrile and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropionitrile, respectively.
