Abstract A mathematical model of an oscillatory chemical reaction in a porous catalyst particle is considered. The model describes an oscillatory medium uniformly distributed throughout the volume of a spherical particle. The dynamical interaction of the reaction with the diffusive flow of the gaseous reagent inside the pores generates nonstationary dissipative structures in the oscillatory medium on the surface of the catalyst. Depending on the pressure in the gaseous phase, the model produces specific chemical waves and localized spatio-temporal chaos.
