    Notes: Abstract A macroscopic computer model of a stationary two-phase system consisting of a melt adjacent to its solid phase is constructed which takes steady natural convection in the melt into account. The finite element method is used for the solution of corresponding free-boundary problem. Numerical experiments with the model are described and the effect of gravity and material properties on solidification is studied.
