Abstract Estimates of hazardous distances associated with a vapor cloud resulting from a major LNG ship accident have been based on predictions of the cloud's drift and composition, and they vary widely. Perhaps a more realistic approach to determining safe distances is one based on the thermal radiation hazard that would result from the ignition of such a cloud within a few seconds of the spill.
