Notes: Summary The aqueous solutions of porphyrine with sulphuric acid (10%) show a stronger fluorescence than with hydrochloric acid (5–25%), other experimental conditions being equal. This is due to the quenching of fluorescence of porphyrine by chloride ions. It is proposed, therefore, to shake the ether extract of urine with 10% solution of sulphuric acid when working according toH. Fischer's method for qualitative analysis of porphyrine in urine. The same applies to the quantitative fluorometric method for the determination of porphyrine. This procedure assures greater precision in analytical work.
