Summary In the past years the 7-bromo-cholesteryl esters were obtained indirectly by usingN-bromosuccinimide. It has now become possible to obtain directly from cholesteryl esters in carbon tetrachloride the corresponding 7-bromo-compounds by a simple method using bromine and light, with a yield of 60% of the theoretical amount, while with the dark reaction the dibromocholesterol known for about 60 years is produced.
