Description / Table of Contents:
The ring-opening polymerization of 2-Imino-1,3-oxazolidines to poly(ureylenethylene)s (polyethyleneureas) was investigated. 3-Phenyl-2-phenylimino-1,3-oxazolidine (1) and acidic compounds form crystalline complexes, which initiate the polymerization of 1 only in the case of coordination of the acidic compounds with the Imino group of 1.The results of the kinetic experiments give evidence of a polymerization reaction starting without an induction period and obeying pseudo first-order kinetics. They permit also the conclusion that the rate determining reaction step is bimolecular. The results are in accordance with those found for the ring-opening reaction of iminooxazolidines with organic acids in the low molecular range.
Notes:
