Description / Table of Contents:
In the PbO—Ta2O5 system, in addition to the already known compound PbTa2O6, the following phases have been identified by x-ray analysis: 1. cubic Pb1.5Ta2O6.5, stoichiometric, with a = 10.54 Å, 2. a rhombohedral pyrochlor-type phase between Pb2Ta2O7 (a = 10.71 Å, α = 88° 26′) and Pb2.5Ta2O7.5 (a = 10.73 Å, α = 87° 58′), 3. a tetragonal phase Pb3Ta2O8 (a = 10.62 Å, c = 10.86 Å).The existence of all the phases of the PbO—Nb2O5 system already mentioned in the literature have been confirmed. In the PbO—U2O5 system, only a single phase was found between Pb1.5U2O6.5 and Pb2,5U2O7.5. With increasing PbO content, a steady conversion from a cubic to a distorted rhombohedral structure occurs. The occupation of the cation sublattice in the various compounds was found by density measurements to be quite different for the uranium compounds, than for the niobium and tantalum compounds.
Notes:
