In contrast with the behaviour of nitro compounds, nitrito complexes react with hydrazoic acid yielding N2, N2O and the corresponding aquo complexes.The rate constants of the bimolecular interaction between [(NH3)5CoONO]Cl2 and HN3, and of the simultaneous isomerization to the nitro compound have been determined.

Nitritokomplexe lassen sich zum Unterschied von den Nitroverbindungen mit Stickstoffwasserstoffsäure in schwach saurer Lösung unter Entwicklung von Stickstoff und Distickstoffmonoxyd zu den entsprechenden Aquokomplexen umsetzen. Die Kinetik dieser Reaktion wurde am Beispiel des Nitritokobalt(III)-chlorids untersucht. Durch Beobachtung des zeitlichen Ablaufes der Gasentwicklung konnte ermittelt werden, daß es sich hier um eine bimolekulare Reaktion zwischen dem Komplexion und der Stickstoffwasserstoffsäuremolekel handelt, die von der Isomerisierung zum Nitrokomplex begleitet ist. Die Geschwindigkeitskonstanten beider Parallelreaktionen können simultan bestimmt werden.
