(C6H5)2SO reacts with SiBr4 and SiJ4, respectively, forming unstable coordination compounds of the formula SiX4 · [OS(C6H5)2]2, which decompose at room temperature into SiO2 and halogen diphenyl sulphides.During the reaction between (C6H5)2SO and silicium tetrachloride, a substitution takes place, and besides (C6H5)2 SCl2 silicium oxychlorides of the general composition SinOnCl2n+2 are formed.SiF4 does not react with (C6H5)2SO.

Aus Diphenylsulfoxyd und Siliciumtetrabromid bzw. Siliciumtetrajodid resultieren Verbindungen der Formel SiX4 · [OS(C6H5)2]2. Diese Addukte sind relativ unbeständig und zersetzen sich schon bei Zimmertemperatur unter Bildung von SiO2 und Halogendiphenylsulfiden.Bei der Wechselwirkung des Diphenylsulfoxyds mit Siliciumtetrachlorid wird bei jedem Verhältnis eine Substitutionsreaktion beobachtet. Es entstehen neben Diphenylsulfiddichlorid in den meisten Fällen auch Siliciumoxychloride. So werden in klarer Reaktion beim Verhältnis SiCl4:(C6H5)2SO = 2:1 Siliciumoxychloride der allgemeinen Formel SinOn-1Cl2n+2 isoliert.Während eine Reaktion zwischen Siliciumtetrafluorid bzw. Alkylchlorsilanen und Diphenylsulfoxyd nicht stattfindet, erfolgt eine Umsetzung mit Trichlorsilan (Silicochloroform).
