A new method is presented for obtaining the spin eigenfunctions of 2n electron systems in the spin state S and MS = 0. Using a modified Young operator the function for the state S, MS ( = S) of the system is first projected out. The projected function is then symmetrized over the last n particles and the weight lowering operator Š-S is then applied to it, resulting in a projection of the state S, 0. To within a multiplicative factor, the resulting function is identical with the one resulting from the vector coupling methods.
