Bicyclo[4.1.1]oct-2-en-7-ylideneThree reactions are operative in bicyclo[4.1.1]oct-2-en-7-ylidene (6) generated by flash pyrolysis of the dry sodium salt of the corresponding tosylhydrazone. Cyclobutylidene-methylenecyclopropane rearrangement leads to bicyclo[5.1.0]octa-1,3-diene (18). A dimer of 18 has been characterized. Bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(8),2-diene (31) is formed by vinyl-migration, a typical reaction of “foiled methylenes”. The formation of bicyclo[3.3.0]octa-1,7-diene (8) is in accord with a novel carbene-carbene rearrangement 6 → 7 with 1,3-carbon migration. Our findings suggest that suitable 2-vinylcyclobutylidenes can undergo the same type of carbene-carbene rearrangement as vinylcyclopropylidenes.
    Notes: In Bicyclo[4.1.1]oct-2-en-7-yliden (6), das durch Blitzpyrolyse des trockenen Natriumsalzes des entsprechenden Tosylhydrazons erzeugt wurde, finden drei Reaktionen statt. Die Cyclobutyliden-Methylencyclopropan-Umlagerung führt zu Bicyclo[5.1.0]octa-1,3-dien (18). Ein Dimeres von 18 konnte charakterisiert werden. Durch 1,2-Vinylverschiebung, eine typische Reaktion der “foiled methylenes”, entsteht Bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1(8),2-dien (31). Die Bildung von Bicyclo[3.3.0]octa-1,7-dien (8) ist im Einklang mit einer neuen Carben-Carben-Umlagerung 6 → 7 mit 1,3-C-Verschiebung. Geeignete Vinylcyclobutylidene können demnach den gleichen Typ von Carben-Carben-Umlagerung eingehen wie Vinylcyclopropylidene.
