Keto-Enol Tautomerism of 3-(Arylthio)- and 3-(Arylsulfonyl)isochromane-1,4-dionesThe title compounds and a number of their derivatives are prepared. Whereas all investigated 3-(arylthio)isochromane-1,4-diones 3 are completely enolized their S,S-dioxides 7 show, depending on the solvent, keto-enol equilibria in which the keto species are dominating (IR, UV VIS, 1H, and 13C measurements). Some characteristic properties of these classes of compounds are discussed.

Die Titelverbindungen und eine Reihe ihrer Derivate werden dargestellt. Während alle untersuchten 3-(Arylthio)isochroman-1,4-dione 3 vollständig enolisiert vorliegen, zeigen ihre S,S-Dioxide 7 in Abhängigkeit vom Lösungsmittel Keto-Enol-Gleichgewichte, in denen die Ketoformen dominieren (IR-, UV/VIS-, 1H- und 13C-Messungen). Einige charakteristische Eigenschaften dieser Substanzklassen werden diskutiert.
