Organic Syntheses by Means of Transition Metal Complexes, 4. New C11H10O- and C12H10O2 Ketones from Bullvalene via Carbonyl Iron ComplexesOn carbonylation of the carbonyl iron complexes 2 and 3, which are easily accessible from bull-valene (1), tri- and tetracyclic C11H10O- or C12H10O2 ketones are obtained in good yields. Thus 2 can be carbonylated with selective replacement of the π-allyl, σ-bonded tricarbonyl iron group by CO to give the tricarbonyl iron complex 4 of tricyclo[5.4.0.04,9]undeca-2,5,10-triene-8-one (5). Oxidative decomposition of 4 with FeCl3 affords the thermally unstable ketone 5. At 55°C 5 isomerises by Cope rearrangement to tricyclo[5.4.0.02,11]undeca-3,5,9-triene-8-one (6), which further isomerises at 110°C by a vinylcyclopropane-cyclopentene rearrangement to give tricyclo[5.4.0.02,9]undeca-3,5,10-triene-8-one (7). In contrast to uncomplexed 5, the corresponding diene complex 4 at 110°C rearranges formally by a 1,2-migration of a C—C bond affording the π-allyl, σ complex 9, from which on carbonylation tetracyclo[6.3.1.02,7.04,9]dodeca-5,10-diene-3,12-dione (10) can be obtained. Isomerisation of 4 in the presence of free carbon monoxide and a trace of acid however gives tetracyclo[5.4.0.03,8.02,11]undeca-4,9-diene-6-one (12) exclusively. It is assumed, that 12 is formed via the π-allyl, σ complex 11, which may exist in equilibrium with 9 by the dipolar intermediate 8. Carbonylation of 3 affords tetracyclo-[6.3.1.02,7.04,11]dodeca-5,9-diene-3,12-dione (13).
Notes:
