Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis of Spiro-pyrazoles and their Stereoelectronically Controlled van Alphen Rearrangements to Azaindolizines and Indazoles1,3-Dipolar additions of substituted diazocyclopentadienes (1) to mono- and disubstituted alkynes (2) yield as primary products the spiro-pyrazoles, 3, which can be isolated in certain cases. Depending on the substituents, spontaneous [1,5]-sigmatropic shifts occur affording pyrazolo-pyridines 4, 3 aH-indazoles 5, and indazoles 6, respectively. Cycloaddition to mono- substituted alkynes (2d, e) gives rise to the formation of products originating from two isomeric spiro-pyrazoles 3. The mechanism of the rearrangements is discussed.
