Description / Table of Contents: The Inhibition of Hydrogen Corrosion of Iron by PhenylthioureaIn deaerated acid solutions the corrosion of iron is greatly diminished by very small additions of phynylthiourea. For a quantitative investigation of this phenomenon stationary current voltage curves were studied at potentials close to the open-circuit potential of carbonyl iron in NaClO-HClO4-solutions of pH2. By control measurements of various kinds it was shown that by this procedure it is possible to obtain the partial current voltage curves of both iron dissolution and hydrogen deposition with a high degree of accuracy. Therefore a quantitative estimation of the anodic and cathodic components of the total inhibitor efficency is possible. With phenylthiourea it was found that under the experimental conditions inhibition was nearly exclusivelly cathodic up to 10-6 mol/l inhibitor, with gradually increasing anodic inhibition at higher c concentrations.
