Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, daß die Analyse vonChang andLodge (1) die Spinnbarkeit nicht eigentlich voraussagt. Für den Fall einernewtonschen Flüssigkeit ist nach dieser Lösung die Zeit bis zum Fadenbruch länger als die Verweilzeit beim Spinnen, jedenfalls für kleine Störungen der stationären Strömung. Das Ergebnis vonChang undLodge für eine kautschukartige Flüssigkeit wird als ein weiteres Beispiel des Effekts der Dehngeschwindigkeits-Begrenzung bei einermaxwellschen Flüssigkeit ausgelegt.

Summary It is shown that the analysis ofChang andLodge (1) does not in fact predict spinnability. For aNewtonian liquid the finite time in which the analysis predicts breakage of the thread is longer than the residence time in spinning, at least for small perturbations to the steady flow. The result ofChang andLodge for the rubberlike liquid is interpreted as another manifestation of the phenomenon of a limiting rate of strain in elongation of aMaxwell liquid.
