Con motivo del bicentenario del Trienio liberal (1820-1823) el autor participó en varias iniciativas científicas que lo conmemoraban. Su anterior experiencia en el estudio y edición del proyecto de Código civil de 1821 motivó que fuera repetidamente invitado a escribir sobre la codificación en esos años. El resultado, arreglado de modo conveniente, lo tiene en sus manos el lector.
