Description: The article analyses the stages of hardening and reaction of cement hydration. The relationship between the rate of hydration of cement minerals and the initial strength of concrete has been established. The initial strength of concrete plays a very important role in winter concreting. From the strength of concrete to freezing depends the course of destructive processes in solid concrete. Minerals, the products of cement hydration, have a different rate of formation and different strength. So, weak minerals are formed at the very beginning of hardening and have a low strength. And these weak minerals of cement screen inhibit the formation of stronger minerals. The technological method of destruction of weak bonds of cement minerals is re-vibrating the concrete mixture. Repeated vibration will destroy these new formations of cement, with the possibility of the formation of more durable minerals of cement. The number of weak neoplasms during the hydration of cement depends on its ...

Description: The article presents the results of experimental studies on the samples of flat reinforced concrete slabs of a girderless frame under the punching by columns of round, square and rectangular cross-section. The description of sample design, the results of determining the physical and mechanical characteristics of materials, as well as the test procedure are given. The results of testing the samples are given. A comparative analysis of the experimental values of failure loads is performed depending on the shape of the section and the ratio of the column sides. The comparison of the experimental values of failure loads and calculated values determined by normative methods SP 63.13333.2012, ACI 318 and EC 2 shows that the design model of SP 63.13333.2012 gives a good fit to the experimental values for square column and overestimates the punching force for flat reinforced concrete slab at a ratio of the sides of rectangular column more than two. The results of the performed experimen...

Description: The finite element models for plate bending problems are constructed on the basis of the approximations of moments fields. The bending and twisting moments are approximated in the finite element area by piecewise constant functions. The solution is based on the functional of the additional energy. The algebraic equations of equilibrium of nodes of grid of finite elements are formed using the principle of possible displacements and are included in the functional with the help of Lagrange multipliers. The calculations of square clamped and hinged supported plates on the action of uniformly distributed load are performed. It is shown that the presented method of calculating bent plates by the finite element method in stresses has the property of convergence of the displacements from above.

Description: The main purpose of dynamical processes modelling is to formulate the motion equations of the system with regard for active forces and constraints restricted its movement. Desirable properties of system’s motion, which are provided by the influence of additional forces and by the variation of inertial system’s properties, can be specified by the constraint equations. Nikolay Zhukovskiy studied two main problems on constructing motion equations: defining the force function, that determines a set of motion trajectories, and analysing its stability. The representation of constraint equations as partial integrals of motion equations allows to provide an asymptotic stability of the corresponding integral manifold and to solve the problem of constraint stabilization at numerical solution of dynamics equations.

Description: The problem of environmental pollution becomes more and more actual nowadays. The pollution of water basins is a particularly serious current environmental issue. Water basins pollution is one of the most pressing technical, ecological, biological and social problems of mankind. Despite the fact that food industry enterprises tend to use modern methods of processing raw materials, they are still harmful to the environment. Oil-extracting plants also exert a significant negative impact upon the environment: upon the atmosphere and water facilities, in particular. The study aim is to estimate the harmful effect oil-extracting industry produces on water bodies, measure the overall purification effect produced by treating agents and examine their types, doses and input modes. The oil-extracting plant under investigation is located in the residential area, in the town of Bezenchuk, so there is a need for constant control over the nearby environment.

Description: In the article the method of utilization of irrevocable waste of spinning of a flax and cotton is considered. It is offered to use waste as filler for production of heat-insulating composite plates. The difficulties of use of irrevocable dust-like waste as filler of composite plates are caused by considerable damage of vegetable fibers, increase in absorbency binding in filler, a big specific surface of particles. The composite materials from dust-like vegetable waste are produced by the technology of fiber boards of a wet way of production. As binding phenol formaldehyde resin is used. Increase in a share of additive of pitch leads to the increase in durability of material. At all modes of production and any share of additive binding stronger are composite materials from dust-like waste of processing of a flax. The mass fraction binding in composite material doesn’t exert significant impact on the coefficient of plate heat conductivity.

Description: In this paper, the problem of determining the positions of stable and unstable equilibrium positions of a mechanical system of the type of a planetary mechanism with one degree of freedom is considered. Analysis of possible movements of the mechanism is carried out using the phase plane. We investigate the dependence of the number of equilibrium positions on the change in the values of the parameters of the system. It is shown that with changes in the values of the parameters, the nature of the motion of the mechanism can change drastically. Some characteristics of nonlinear oscillations of the mechanism near the positions of stable equilibrium are determined. A comparative analysis of the obtained characteristics with similar characteristics for small (linear) oscillations is carried out.

Description: Nuclear power plants are important generating units of the energy system worldwide. In the normal mode, nuclear power plants are absolutely safe, but emergency systems with radiation emissions have a devastating impact on the environment and public health. Despite the introduction of technologies and automatic monitoring systems, the threat of a potentially dangerous situation remains. The reactor vessel is the main object of activities to ensure the safety of nuclear power plants. One of the problems of ensuring the safety of nuclear power plant reactor vessels is the prediction of the level of crack resistance of reactor steels. The paper shows the possibility of estimating the neutron irradiation level on the nature of the temperature dependence of K IC . The prediction of the influence of radiation damage on the fracture toughness of the reactor steel can be obtained on the basis of the results of tests of small cylindrical samples with annular notches.

Description: We consider the walking robot with n legs and m arms, where each leg and arm contacts the surface in a single foothold. Given the motion of the robot’s legs and arms with respect to its body, we solve the problem of finding the reaction forces, both analytically and numerically. The first step in solving similar problem belongs to N Y Zhukovsky. We describe the robot motion in terms of the general dynamics theorems, with six different equations of the robot’s dynamics from the momentum and angular momentum theorems. In the special case a robot with two legs, the existence of the solution is related to a set of straightforward inequalities. Using numerical simulations we develop the classification of footholds positions for different values of the friction coefficient. This problem equivalent to the problem of curved object grasping by the fingers of the robot-manipulator.

Description: Straight lines, circles and second-order curves are widely used in architectural and building design as the mainform-making elements. Straight lines are used in the design of gridwork building structures and engineering facilities. Smooth curves composed of the sections of the second-order curves are used to form complex curvilinear wave surfaces. The grid shells of smooth wave curves have become one of the main means for the form-making of avant-garde buildings, including skyscrapers and high-tech buildings. The article deals with the architectural design of the modern airport terminal developed by Samoo Architects & EngineersKorean company. For the geometric analysis weusedan engineering method for designing compound lines formed by the arcs of the second-order curves. Description: The study attempts to demonstrate that it is possible to apply classical equations of chemical reactions for assessing the strength of concrete, cured in winter. This assumption differs from the existing classical theories of strength development in concrete, based on physical approaches. The graphs of the known normal temperature dependences of the chemical reaction rate and the increase in substance concentration in time allowed us to confirm the possibility for further research of strength development in concrete from the standpoint of chemical theories. For these purposes, the Van’t Hoff and Arrhenius equations were considered. To compare the results of theoretical studies with real constructions, we conducted an extensive experiment that involved a testing machine and a temperature chamber to assess the actual development of concrete strength in time at different temperatures (5, 20, 40, and 60°C). The temperature graphs of hardening of B40 concrete were plotted. Both equat...

Description: The article offers an approach to assess the work quality if there is a lack of information. A lack of information may be preconditioned by a small number of control objects, the features of controlled objects, lacking values of the features, as well as a low confidence of the features or values. The solution of the problem allows us, at a known a priori law of a random variable distribution, to make a decision using a small volume of the control sample without compromising the reliability of the solution. The approach uses the Lotfi Zadeh’s possibility theory as a generalization of the fuzzy set theory. It suggests specifications for assigning the solution risk level, using the possibility theory. The solutions of two problems, using the specified theoretical base, are considered: the problem of assessing the quality system level and assessing the defectiveness of works. It is proved that at small sample volumes it is possible to obtain reliable solutions in determining the par...

Description: Some problems connected to vortex methods development for 2D incompressible flow simulation around airfoils are discussed. In the numerical schemes and algorithms which are normally used in the vortex methods, the airfoil is approximated by a polygon consists of rectilinear panels, and the the vortex sheet intensity, which is placed on the airfoil surface line and simulates the airfoil’s influence the flow, is assumed to be piecewise-constant or piecewise-linear function. The most accurate mathematical models and numerical algorithms, based on such approaches, provide the estimation for the order of the error between O ( h ) and O ( h 2 ) for the average vortex sheet intensity over the panels ( h is the maximal panel length). In the present research a new approach is developed, where the vortex sheet intensity is assumed to be discontinuous piecewise-linear or piecewise-quadratic function and the curvature of the panels is taken into accoun...

Description: Optimization problem is solved for the trajectory of a typical medium range aircraft flying between two airdromes. The optimization is considered with respect to the fuel consumption and is performed for the entire trajectory, without decomposition into separate stages. The optimal trajectory is calculated on the basis of the complete model of the trajectory motion of an aircraft in a vertical plane. To account for all constraints imposed by both the engineering features of the aircraft, as well as other requirements, including passenger safety and comfort, Bellman’s dynamic programming method is used.

Description: This article presents the obtained theoretical solutions for determining the degree of impact of ground transport vehicles on pedestrian undercrossings and shallow subways. Frequency characteristics of the transport impact on underground engineering structures are determined, and the maximum vertical load at high speed is found to equal 50 km/hour. With the increase of the speed of vibrational frequency the lateral vibrations of maximum amplitude occur and spike. However, the vibrational frequencies spike at the increase of speed, what may lead to resonant vibrations with underground structures, what will cause serious damage as a consequence. Studying of vibrational processes as the effect from the moving transport on underground structures it is easy to calculate that their impact is equivalent to seismicity, and can be deemed as grade 3-4 of a real earthquake intensity. The research reveals that if an engineering structure exposed to external effects of moving transport does ...

Description: Modern road building machines at a high level of mechanization do not meet the increased quality indicators of building highways. One of the main reasons for such poor quality is the lack of compaction of all the structural layers of the road pavement. The existing technology of compacting road-building materials is based on compression deformations, a significant portion of the air remains in the volume of the compacted material and leads to the formation of uneven surfaces (wheel tracks, transverse waves). The new technology of the compaction of road-building materials is based on shear deformations and compression deformation, thus creating a dense, rigid and unchangeable material structure. The article considers the peculiarities of the technology of laying road-building materials and proposes a technical solution for obtaining high-density structures from composite materials. It presents a comparison of the existing and the new technology of compacting road-building materia...

Description: Electrical resistivity is one of the key electro-physical characteristics describing the steel fiber reinforced concrete’s ability to conduct electric current. The experiments were carried out to test the hypothesis for the occurrence of a short-circuit effect in steel-fiber concrete structures for the method of electrode heating. Further studies were made to determine the electrical resistivity for various compositions of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The mathematical regularity was found to determine the change of specific electrical resistance subject to the water-cement ratio, the percentage of fiber, the modulus of the fiber surface, and the size of the aggregates. Graphic nomograms (a group of line charts) were made to determine the value of the electrical resistivity for steel fiber reinforced concrete and choose the parameters of electrical heating and the appropriate operating mode of technological equipment.

Description: The article presents the results of a comprehensive study of rotundal religious architecture, presented in the world and Russian architectural theory and practice. The appeal to this topic is due to the extreme rarity of the rotundal forms in the cult architecture with the high architectural and artistic merits of the rotundal temples, created during the centuries-old period from the 6th century B.C. to the 19th century A.D. The sequence of the development and inner interrelation of rotund-temples of different times and peoples is briefly described. The historical analogies of rotundal form development in the world and the Russian architecture are conducted. The ideological, aesthetic and socio-economic origins of the emergence and active use of rotundal forms in the Orthodox church architecture of Russia from the middle of the 18th to the first third of the 19th centuries are analyzed. Attention is drawn to the volume-planning and compositional solutions of Russian rotund templ...

Description: In this article, on the basis of analyzing damages of pedestrian passes during earthquakes that caused injuries or death of people, structural designs of these structures in order to enhance their stability are elaborated, and actions for reduction of their damageability degree are proposed. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that operation of arched ceilings is in reduction of reinforcement ratio, enhancement of dynamic stiffness, and reduction of seismically active earth thrust due to reduction of thrust force. The proposed structure operates in compression, which allows diminishing the thickness of concrete, due to which inertial seismic forces are reducing. In this structure, foundation is combined with the floor and transmits the thrust force from wall panels to the arched floor. Strategically, arched structures are better than beam structures, as their sections are mainly operating for off-center compression; at that, stretching forces caused by bending moments ...

Description: The paper considers problems related to efficient treatment of sewage falling into natural surface water of a reservoir, making the latter technogenic. This treatment consists in creating an artificial ecological sys-tem in the way of a pollutant flow, based on the ability of individual biota links to absorb contaminants. The paper evaluates the ecological state of the environment exposed to intensive technogenic effect, produced by a mining-and-smelting enterprise. As for the context, the paper is relevant for the countries with a robust mining-and- smelting and industrial system, and for development of “green economy” in such countries.

Description: In the article we consider small motions of an ideal, non-compressible two-layer fluid with, divided by rigid permeable flat septum. Fluid fills the cylindrical tank with the sloping spherical bottom. The fluid motions we consider as potential. The velocity potential satisfies the Laplace equation. The resistance of the septum we assume linear with a constant coefficient of resistance. The effect of a permeable partition dividing the liquid column in the vessel is taken into account as a certain linearly viscous resistance with a reduced resistance coefficient specified as a parameter. The elasticity of the bottom of the vessel is taken into account by introducing the Airy function in the right-hand side of the differential equation corresponding to the movements of the elastic bottom.

Description: Reliable computer modelling in hydromechanical system dynamics is very important for studies related to optimizing food manufacturing and biotechnology processes. Searching best parameters of a computational model of a system and its diagnosing are formulated as inverse problems. The current error function is built on base of comparison of corresponding parts of the computed eigenspectrum and the measured one. The incompleteness of the registered data and the presence of multiple eigenfrequencies lead to the fact that the error function to be minimized is nonconvex and not everywhere differentiable. Since the function has many local minima, it is necessary to use global optimization methods. Two novel hybrid global optimization algorithms for solving the inverse problems are described. The hybrid algorithms combine the up-to-date stochastic algorithm for scanning the search space and deterministic derivative-free procedures for local descent. Numerical results on benchmarking th...

Description: The article suggests the methods of mass collection of earthworms and their cocoons as well as the identification of cocoons’ viability which stimulates the research of earthworm, in particular their reproductive capabilities. The absence of correlation between the size of cocoons and the quantity of warms, hatching from them, is found out. It is shown that the preliminary processing with glycerin or dehydration of earthworms’ cocoons significantly reduces the yield of viable individuals from frozen cocoons. The technology for transportation and keeping vermiculture in the earthworm-egg-cocoon stage was worked out. The technological scheming includes mass cocoon sampling, a cocoon lot preparation for keeping and transportation at room temperature for 30 days, and long-term keeping (about 5 months) at lower temperatures in wintertime.

Description: Some 40 years ago, air pollution caused widespread forest decline in Central Europe and eastern North America. More recently, high levels of tree mortality worldwide are thought to be driven by rising temperatures and increasing atmospheric drought. A neglected factor, possibly contributing to both phenomena, is the foliar accumulation of hygroscopic aerosols. Recent experiments with experimentally added aerosols revealed that foliar aerosol accumulation can (i) create the microscopic impression of ‘wax degradation’, considered an important proxy of forest decline associated with air pollution, though the mechanism remains unexplained; and (ii) increase epidermal minimum conductance ( g min ), a measure of cuticular permeability and completeness of stomatal closure—both could lead to reduced drought tolerance. Here, those studies with applied aerosol are extended by addressing plant responses to reduction of ambient aerosol. Scots pine, silver fir, and com...

Description: Dried chilies (Capsicum annuum Variety Kulai) were reconstituted using two different soaking techniques (cold water and boiled water soakings), crushing and stone-grinding into a fine puree and pasteurized with and without citric and acetic acids. The quality attributes of chili puree were evaluated regarding pH, moisture, Hunter surface color (L, a, b and hue angle and chroma), extractable color (ASTA units) and capsaicinoid content. Results showed that different soaking techniques had a pronounced effect on the pH, moisture content, Hunter surface color, extractable color, hue angle and chroma of the puree. However, chili puree prepared by boiled-water soaking had lower capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin concentrations compared to cold water soaking. Pasteurization did not seem to give an effect on the Hunter surface color (L, a, and b) and pungency of the puree produced. Overall, the combined treatments of boiled water soaking and pasteurization in the presence of a mixture of 1 ...

Description: This paper reveals the condition of religious awareness of High School Students in Kendari. Religious awareness is seen in the implementation of religious teachings that leads to the religious understanding of the students. Their religious awareness is measured in three aspects: 1) The relationship of the students with God (prayer and fasting) and the relationships of the students with other students (social interaction) and the relationship between students and themselves (food, drink and clothing and morals). The research data is collected through observation, interview and documentation method. This study indicates that religious awareness of high school students in Kendari is still low. This is due to the low and disproportionate hours of Islamic education in schools compared to the extent of subject matter that must be accepted by the students; 2). Inadequate Islamic educational facilities/infrastructures exist; 3). The professionalism of teachers of Islamic religious educa...

Description: Two-dimensional (2D) topological insulators (TIs) and Chern insulators (CIs) promise quantum spin Hall (QSH) and quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) states without dissipation. By combining first-principles calculations with Wannier functions-based tight-binding (TB) modeling, we demonstrate that the graphenelike BC 3 , which was fabricated early in experiment, can become 2D TIs and CIs through suitable decoration of adatoms. For the thallium (Tl) decorated BC 3 systems, three low-energy structures with the same stoichiometry of BC 3 Tl, whose stabilities are verified by the ab initio evolutionary algorithm, are found to be robust 2D TIs with the largest topologically nontrivial band gap of about 224 meV. For the transition metal atoms adsorbed BC 3 , three (2 × 2) BC 3 systems with one adatom of technetium (Tc), rhenium (Re), or ruthenium (Ru) are found to be good CIs with the ferromagnetic moments of 1 to 2 μ B ...

Description: Seawater intrusion has often resulted in scarce fresh groundwater resources in coastal lowlands. Careful management is essential to avoid the overexploitation of these vulnerable fresh groundwater resources, requiring detailed information on their spatial occurrence. Airborne electromagnetics (EM) has proved a valuable tool for efficient mapping of ground conductivity, as a proxy for fresh groundwater resources. Stakeholders are, however, interested in groundwater salinity, necessitating a translation of ground conductivity to groundwater salinity. This paper presents a methodology to construct a high-resolution (50 × 50 × 0.5 m 3 ) 3D voxel model of groundwater chloride concentration probability, based on a large-scale (1800 km 2 , 9640 flight line kilometres) airborne EM survey in the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands. Groundwater chloride concentration was obtained by combining pedotransfer functions with detailed lithological information. The methodology...

Description: Pattern formation and selection are fundamental, omnipresent principles in nature—from small cells up to geological scales. In E. coli bacteria, for example, self-organized pole-to-pole oscillations of Min proteins—resembling a short standing wave—ensure correct positioning of the cell division site. The same biochemical reaction leads to traveling protein waves on extended membranes in in vitro experiments. Are these seemingly contradictory observations of system-spanning importance? We show that a transition of nonlinear traveling wave patterns to reflection-induced standing waves in short systems is a generic and robust phenomenon. It results from a competition between two basic phenomena in pattern formation theory. We confirm the generic findings for the cell-biological Min reaction and for a chemical reaction–diffusion system. These standing waves show bistability and adapt to varying system lengths similar as pole-to-pole oscillations in growing E. coli.

Description: We study the time coherence of the photoluminescence radiated by spatially indirect excitons confined in a 10 μ m electrostatic trap. Above a critical temperature of about 1 K, we show that the photoluminescence is homogeneously broadened in the dilute regime, with a spectral width around 500 μ eV that weakly varies with the exciton density. By contrast, the spectral width reduces by two-fold below the critical temperature and for experimental parameters at which excitons undergo a gray Bose–Einstein condensation. We find evidence showing that the photoluminescence temporal coherence is limited by interactions between excitons and a low concentration of residual excess charges, leading to a minimum photoluminescence spectral width of around 300 μ eV in the condensed regime.

Description: The impacts of cross diffusion on stagnation point MHD combined convective flow approaching a plate which is upright in a porous surrounding subject to chemical reaction, heat generation and radiation is explored. Relations of similarity are employed for the conversion of flow relations as ordinary differential equations upon the application of relations of similarity, shooting method and Runge-Kutta algorithm are applied to find the solution. An analysis is made upon the graphical depictions on velocity of the liquid, its temperature and its concentration with respect to some physical entities and conclusions drawn. It is noticed that velocity shoots up across the boundary layer with a rise in heat generation, Dufour number and Biot number whereas it reduces for strong chemical reaction. For ascending values of Dufour number, chemical reaction parameter and Biot number, the temperature soars up and as a result, thickness of thermal boundary layer inflates.

Description: The performance of a vapour compression refrigeration system depends greatly on the spatial arrangement of the components, properties of the refrigerant and lubricant. Numerous models have been developed by using these properties to predict the performance of the vapour compression refrigeration system. The usual ideal gas model does not yield accurate results due to its limited range. In this study, an analytical real gas model has been developed for heat transfer in the evaporator and work output rate of compressor to achieve the coefficient of performance (COP) of the system. This real gas model is validated against the investigational data and the end result obtained was consistent with an error band of 10% for exhaust temperature and 7% for COP. This model can be used to predict the COP of any vapour compression refrigeration system, given that the thermodynamic properties of the working fluid and required dimensions of the system are known. However, it cannot be extended t...

Description: Aluminium metal matrix composites finds its application in aerospace, automobile, and energy industry owing to their excellent mechanical properties such as low density high strength, light weight, high strength-to-weight ratio and fatigue and corrosion resistances. Further the addition of nano size particles improves mechanical properties of the composites. The present work is focused on the mechanical performances of aluminium SiC nano composites. Instead of making bulk composites, the surface layers on the substrate improve the mechanical properties. For the fabrication of such surface composite layer, the new modification technique, friction stir processing (FSP) is used. FSP technique is used to produce defect-free surface composite with a good bonding and uniform distribution of reinforcement particles within an aluminium matrix. Various process parameters such as rotational speed, transverse feed, and volume fraction of nano SiC, on mechanical properties is investigated. ...

Description: Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a thickening and gelling derived from cellulose. It is broadly used in household products, cosmetics and cleaning solutions. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is frequently used with hydrophobic drugs in capsule formulations, to improve the drugs dissolution in the gastrointestinal fluids. Ultrasonic technique is one of the basic nondestructive methods for evaluation of materials and structures. A significant part of every ultrasonic inspection is the way in which the ultrasonic energy is transferred between the transducer and the tested object. In the present investigation, we have tried to compute the activation energy, ultrasound investigations, elastic property (bulk modulus) and molecular interaction properties of aqueous solutions of Hydroxyethyl cellulose at different concentrations (0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15%, 0.20%, 0.25%, 0.30%, 0.35%, 0.40%, 0.45% and 5%) for different temperatures (303K, 308K, 313K, 318K) by determining the relative viscosity.

Description: At present, the growing needs and design requirements with significant weight savings as well as high strength-to-weight ratio as compared to conventional materials raised a growing interest towards composite materials. Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are extensively used in fields like aerospace, automobiles and army-defence applications due to their high specific strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, wear resistance, high durability, excellent physical and mechanical properties. The filler reinforcements like SiC, TiC, Al 2 O 3 improve the stiffness, specific strength, creep properties of MMCs, but the presence of such hard reinforcements makes MMCs difficult to machine through conventional machining processes. Wirecut electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is highly precise thermoelectrical process and is considered ideal for machining very hard materials, intricate geometries and tooling. Description: The tribological properties like wear rate/weight loss plays a significant role when the newly developed metal matrix composites are put in to the service condition. Therefore, deciding the optimal parameters for wear is an important research area. In the present manuscript, two non-traditional optimization algorithms, namely invasive weed optimization (IWO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms are used to optimize the said process. The non-linear regression equations developed for as cast and heat-treated Al6061/Gr MMCs using response surface methodology is used for the said purpose. The four independent process parameters, namely sliding velocity, percentage of reinforcement, load and sliding distance are considered to optimize the weight loss during wear test. The performance of the developed optimization algorithms is compared in terms of their ability to produce optimal solution.

Description: Laser forming is an advanced manufacturing process which is extensively used in automotive and manufacturing industry by deforming metallic and non-metallic sheets. In this process, a continuous fiber laser is irradiated over Ni-Ti sheet. As the laser beam imbibed over the sheet, a step temperature thermal gradient got induced across the thickness of the sheet. The bending moment arises due to uneven thermal stresses leads to the deformation of the sheet without using any external forces. This paper shows the experiments performed on Ni-Ti sheets of dimension 60mm×50mm with a maximum power of 50W. The process parameters which were varied are number of passes (10 to 20), power (30W to 50W) to get the maximum bending angle with a uniform spot diameter of 2mm. The study between variations of the bending angle with process parameters is done. Description: The Cold Metal transfer process have recently gained significant importance in the manufacturing sectors due to its excellent droplet transfer of consumable in the molten pool with no spatter. The 7xxx series of Al alloys are the most preferable material to dynamic applications. Hence, in this research work, the AA7075 Al alloys were joined using an advanced TPS 400i Cold Metal Transfer (TCMT) welding machine in order to understand the homogeneity of the weldment with respect to its microhardness and the correlation between the microhardness and microstructure of the joints were analyzed. Finally, it was found that the hardness was decreased in the Weld Zone (WZ) compared to Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and the Base Metal (BM) and also the metallurgical characterization reveals that the joint is free of defects and fine grains were observed in the WZ.

Description: The present investigation is intended to synthesis biodegradable compressor oil for reciprocating air compressors and analyses the tribological behavior of liner-ring tribo pair material under the influence of new formulations. A pin-on-disc tribometer was used to perform the tribological investigations. EN 31 steel and EN-JL 1020 was selected as disc and pin material, respectively. An ultrasonication based transesterification process was used to formulate a biodegradable compressor oil. TGA and DSC analysis was performed to examine the thermos-oxidative stability of compressor oil. The newly formulated bio compressor oil showed better tribological parameters in terms of coefficient of friction, wear and specific wear rate as compared with SAE 30 grade compressor oil. SEM and EDAX analysis of testing pin surfaces proved that the worn surfaces were smooth with bio compressor oil.

Description: In this paper, the free vibration responses of stiffened composite plates in thermal environment are investigated. The flat panel geometry is modelled by using ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) code based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT)midplane kinematics. Firstly, the validity of the present model is established along with the convergence. Further, several numerical examples have been solved and discussed in detail to bring out the effect of change in temperature, modular ratio and the coefficient of thermal expansion on the free vibration responses of stiffened laminated composite flat panels. It is observed that the values of natural frequencies decrease with temperature.

Description: In this present work, the nano filled (Multi walled carbon nano tube) glass and sisal fiber reinforced hybrid composites were fabricated with varying the wt. % of MWCNT’s by 0%, 0.5% and 1% respectively. Compression molding technique is used to fabricate the composites and are subjected to dynamic analysis over a range of temperature (30-190 °C) at the frequency rate of 5Hz. The effect of temperature and nano filler on storage modulus (E′) loss modulus (E ″) and damping efficiency (tan δ) are determinedby using dynamic mechanical analyser (DMA). The shear and loss modulus obtained maximum values for 0.5wt.% MWCNT composites. Damping value is higher for 1wt.% MWCNT incorporated composites. By using ultrasonic probe sonicator, nano fillers are mixed in to the epoxy resin to prepare a modified resin. The dynamic properties are evaluated as per as ASTM standards.

Description: The aim of the present numerical investigation is to understand the unsteady free convective flow and heat transfer of cold water near its density maximum temperature in a two-dimensional square porous cavity with internal heat generation. The present study uses the Brinkmann-Forchheimer extended Darcy model for porous medium to study the effects of density inversion parameter, heat generation parameter, Darcy number and porosity. The finite volume method is used to solve the governing equations. The nonlinear behavior of local heat transfer is observed due to sinusoidal heating. The heat transfer enhances for heat absorption case than that of heat generation case in the presence of density maximum.

Description: In connection with the increase in the number of cars in the world, there is an increase in the number of road accidents. The structural elements of the car do not allow the driver to assess fully the road situation. Such zones are called blind spots. Mostly the collision of cars happens in blind spots due to the lack of visibility. This is especially true for commercial vehicles. This article presents a system that allows you to expand the visibility of the car, due to the use of displays in the windshield pillars. A review of the existing systems was carried out. However, the use of only displays is not safe, for this, a pedestrian recognition system integrated in the windshield pillars based on neural networks can be used. The system allows detection, estimation of the distance to the object and giving out a warning signal about a possible collision. It consists of an on-board computer module, a video camera and an display. This system allows you to reduce the number of accid...
