    Description: Auch wenn im Zuge des Iconic-Turns Historiker vermehrt auf Bildquellen zurückgriffen, so blieben die verbreitetsten Bildmedien der poströmischen Zeit, nämlich Münzen und Siegel, in Handbüchern und Studien unterrepräsentiert. Zu europäischen Herrschersiegeln dieser Zeit existiert bis heute nicht einmal ein Corpus. Dieser Band greift ebendiese Lücke auf, um die politische Kommunikation mittels Herrscherbildern auf Massenmedien der Franken im ständigen Vergleich mit denen anderer poströmischen Kulturen (Oströmer, Angelsachsen, Langobarden, Westgoten etc.) zu untersuchen und die teils höchst unterschiedlichen Entwicklungen zu erklären. Dabei wird auch vor heißdiskutierten Themen wie dem „Monetarierwesen" oder der „arabo-byzantinischen" Münzprägung nicht haltgemacht.     Description: In the middle of the 9th century, the Abbey of Fulda founded a subsidiary monastery on the Weser, which was likely transformed into a collegiate monastery in the 10th century. In 1259, the abbot of Fulda sold his rights to the Bishop of Minden. After the Reformation, the episcopal rights passed to the Welfish sovereign in 1576. The collegiate monastery underwent a gradual secularization process from 1850 to 1863. The biographies of the personnel of the Boniface monastery attest to the close connections between the foundation and the city. Beyond Hameln, the book provides prosopographical material for the comparative study of medieval collegiate monasteries.

Antworten auf diese Fragen gibt die Briefsammlung des Amtsträgers Ludovico Foscarini (1409–1480). Seine Briefe entstanden als Reaktion auf ein Dilemma: Nur als Statthalter und Gesandter konnte Foscarini in der Konkurrenz mit anderen venezianischen Adeligen bestehen. In der Peripherie war er aber von den Verteilungswettkämpfen abgeschnitten, die in der Zentrale in geheimen Abstimmungen abliefen. Kunstvolle Briefe an andere Politiker und politisch einflussreiche Intellektuelle sollten das Problem lösen. Diese Briefe nutzten humanistische, juristische und theologische Metaphern, um Themen anzusprechen, die außerhalb der offiziellen Gremien tabu waren. Foscarini legte eine didaktisch aufgebaute Briefsammlung mit den wirksamsten seiner Briefe an –　ein Erfahrungsschatz, den er seinen Söhnen für ihre politischen Laufbahnen hinterließ. Die Publikation kontextualisiert in einer interdisziplinär angelegten Analyse die Einzelbriefe anhand von gelehrten Textvorlagen und Wissensbeständen sowie Archivmaterial.     Description: Biographical documentation of a search for traces of German emigration after 1933 During the National Socialist era, thousands of emigrants were deprived of their German citizenship. This is the first time that this state injustice has been documented for a group of people. Sources and research on the history of the legal profession in the "Third Reich", the genesis of the expatriation law of 14 July 1933 and the practice of bureaucratic persecution are dealt with in an introductory section. In addition, the consequential punishment of academic expatriation is demonstrated for the universities with law faculties. Affected by the punitive expatriation were hundreds of lawyers, among them half a dozen female lawyers. 610 short biographies recall both luminaries and unknown representatives of the profession. The lawyers who were declared "deprived of German citizenship" were, with few exceptions, Jews, stigmatised and persecuted as Jewish lawyers. Only a few of the lawyers expelled from their profession and homeland returned from exile. Among them were the lawyers Fritz Löwenthal, Rudolf Katz and Friedrich Wilhelm Wagner, who were expatriated after 1933. Appointed to the Parliamentary Council, they voted for the adoption of the Basic Law on 8 May 1949. While Löwenthal retired from politics, Katz served as Minister of Justice in Kiel until 1950. In 1951, he was elected by the Bundesrat as a judge of the newly founded Federal Constitutional Court. Wagner had been a member of the German Bundestag since 1949. In 1961, he moved from Bonn to Karlsruhe, and succeeded Katz as a judge of the Second Senate and Vice-President of the constitutional body.

His private papers were destroyed when the Red Army advanced towards Berlin in spring 1945. The purpose of the book is to reconstruct the documents that got lost. The editor collected about 2000 pieces, mostly unpublished, in a number of archives, among them the Archives of the German Foreign Ministry and of the Imperial Chancellery in Berlin. The documents show Bethmann Hollweg in a new light. They testify that he is one of the most high-standing political figures of 20th-century German and European history.

    Description: Theobald von Bethmann Hollweg, Reichskanzler von 1909 bis 1917, gilt als eine der umstrittensten Figuren der Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sein Privatnachlass in Hohenfinow nordöstlich von Berlin wurde beim Vormarsch der Roten Armee 1945 vernichtet. Ziel der Edition ist es, die verschollenen Dokumente zu rekonstruieren. Etwa 2000 Stück, die meisten unveröffentlicht, konnten in verschiedenen Archiven ausfindig gemacht werden, z. B. im Politischen Archiv des Auswärtigen Amtes und im Bundesarchiv Berlin. Sie korrigieren das Bild dieses in der deutschen und internationalen Geschichtswissenschaft zumeist verkannten Kriegskanzlers in zahlreichen wesentlichen Zügen. Bethmann Hollweg verfügte über einen tiefen Blick in die Bewegungen der Zeit. Diesen ausgeprägten Vorausblick hatten in der neueren deutschen Geschichte neben ihm nur ganz wenige Kanzler wie Bismarck und Adenauer.

Und was sagt diese Art der Mittelalterrezeption über unsere Gesellschaft aus? Diesen Fragen wird anhand Walthers von der Vogelweide "Palästinalied", einem Marktklassiker der Histotainmentmusik, nachgegangen.

    Description: In den deutschen Landen wurde noch das ganze 18. Jahrhundert hindurch die Wirkungsmacht von Teufel und Dämonen heftig diskutiert. Gegner der Hexenverfolgungen und Kritiker einiger Aufsehen erregender Fälle von Exorzismus führten philosophische, namentlich cartesianische, und theologische Argumente ins Feld; bei der Exegese der einschlägigen Bibelstellen wandten sie das Akkomodationsprinzip und neue kritisch-filologische Methoden an. Sie beriefen sich fast allesamt auf den niederländischen Pastor Balthasar Bekker (1634–1698), der mit seiner Betoverde Weereld (1691–1693) dem Aberglauben ein Ende setzen und die Aufklärung im Protestantismus als eine „zweite Reformation“ vorantreiben wollte. Die zahlreichen deutschen Reaktionen auf Bekker in den Jahren zwischen der ersten (1693) und der zweiten (1781–82) Verdeutschung seiner Schrift werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit erstmals detailliert analysiert, um so seinen Einfluss auf das deutsche Geistesleben sowie seine gesellschaftliche Wirkung dort zu rekonstruieren. An Bekker lässt sich zudem aufzeigen, wie nachhaltig die Niederlande im Einzelnen auf die deutsche Aufklärung einwirkten.

    Description: Karel van het Reve (1921–1999) war Slawist, vor allem aber ein gefeierter Kolumnist, Essayist, Romancier und Übersetzer. Und er war ein „Meister der ironischen Pirouette“, der seine Meinung stets offen, in einem schlichten und nüchternen Stil kundtat. Seine Polemiken u.a. gegen den Kommunismus, die Psychoanalyse und die Literaturwissenschaft trugen ihm den Titel des „niederländischen Reich-Ranickis“ ein. Doch auch als Übersetzer machte er sich einen Namen, nicht zuletzt wegen seiner unumstößlichen Meinung: „Man muss übersetzen, was dort steht“. Dies war auch das Motto des Workshops, unter dem zehn Studentinnen des Masterstudiengangs „Literarisches Übersetzen und Kulturtransfer“ der Universität Münster Texte von Karel van het Reve übersetzt und im Rahmen eines literarischen Abends präsentiert haben. Zu dem ebenfalls von den Studierenden organisierten Abend waren eine Reihe von Gästen eingeladen: Familienangehörige, Weggefährten und Bewunderer van het Reves wie die Schwiegertochter und der Sohn des Autors, Ileen Montijn und David van het Reve, der Russisch-Übersetzer Arthur Langeveld und der Soziologe Han Israëls. Dieser Band enthält Texte von und über Karel van het Reve, die im Rahmen des Workshops und des literarischen Abends entstanden sind: Übersetzungen, Vorträge und Interviews. Er bietet so einen Einblick in das Leben und Werk dieses vielseitigen und bedeutenden Autors.

Halt an einem Menschen gefunden, der ihn über sieben Jahre in allen innen- und außenpolitischen Fragen beriet und lenkte: Carl Wilhelm Saegert, Leiter der Taubstummenanstalt in Berlin und seit 1853 Inspektor des preußischen Taubstummenwesens. Als sich die Verhältnisse in Berlin nach der Revolution konsolidierten, war es für Saegert unmöglich, wegen seiner fehlenden Ausbildung und seiner bürgerlichen Herkunft in der Führungshierarchie anerkannt zu werden. Der König verließ sich aber weiterhin auf ihn nahezu blindlings, und Saegert mußte die undankbare Rolle des geheimen Beraters spielen, der nur durch die Bediententür Zugang zum König fand. – Die Edition bringt eine Auswahl der politisch relevanten Teile der Korrespondenz für die Jahre 1848–1856. Die Korrespondenz wird ergänzt durch das ungekürzte Tagebuch Saegerts für die Revolutionsmonate März bis November 1848.

Breckling lehnte sich gegen festgefahrene gesellschaftliche Strukturen auf und wollte seine Ansichten über ein neues Menschen- und Weltbild nach Deutschland transferieren. Er wollte durch eine Reform des Menschen nicht weniger als ein ‚Paradies auf Erden‘ verbreiten. Es sollte seiner Meinung nach jedem möglich sein, seine Auffassungen auf einem offenen religiösen Marktplatz darzubieten. Dadurch half er den „Halleschen Pietismus“ mit vorzubereiten. Sein Leben und Wirken, seine Motivation und Ideen werden in einem niederländischen und einem deutschen Kontext eingeordnet. Außerdem werden die symbolischen „Netze der Bedeutung“, in denen er eingebunden war, einer näheren Untersuchung unterzogen. Die Arbeit versucht zu zeigen, dass es eine Verbindung zwischen Breckling und der niederländischen Frühaufklärung gegeben hat.

    Description: Without Rosi Wolfstein and Paul Frölich, our image of Rosa Luxemburg would be completely different today. In the 1920s, the couple worked together on the estate of the murdered politician, which made it possible to produce the first edition of her works. Later, when Frölich and Wolfstein had fled from the National Socialists into exile in France, one of the earliest and at the same time most authentic biographies of Luxemburg (Rosa Luxemburg: Gedanke und Tat) was written by both of them in 1939 under Frölich's name, which was fed by this rich store of knowledge. But who were Rosi Wolfstein and Paul Frölich, who seem almost forgotten today? Their own political careers each started in the SPD before World War I, led them through the anti-war camp to the founding congress of the KPD (Communist Party). While Frölich was elected to the Reichstag, Wolfstein sat in the Prussian Landtag. Out of anti-Stalinist conviction, they left the KPD and eventually became co-founders of the SAP (Socialist Workers' Party), which they headed before fleeing. But they returned to Germany... Riccardo Altieri illustrates in a very readable way the result of his research of several years into a double biography from the point of view of network history. Only by consulting international sources from Wolfstein's and Frölich's network could the study come into being at all, since the protagonists had not left a closed estate due to the persecution during the Nazi era.

Zu Recht stellte in jener Zeit schon der Kunsthistoriker und Niederlandekenner Friedrich K. A. (Fritz) Wiehert fest, es sei überraschend, wie wenig die Deutschen über die Niederlande und wie wenig die Niederländer über Deutschland wüssten, trotz oder gerade wegen der nachbarlichen Nähe. Was wurde unternommen, welche Mittel wurden eingesetzt, um die Niederlande zu einer Parteinahme zu bewegen oder sie Deutschland wenigstens gewogen zu stimmen? Hier ist vor allem der in Den Haag tätigen geheimen Hilfsstelle eine wichtige Rolle zuzuschreiben. Ihre Aufgabe war es, das neutrale Nachbarland durch kulturelle Mittel deutschfreundlich zu beeinflussen mit der Zielvorgabe, die Niederlande in einen kulturellen Außenposten im Sinne des Deutschen Reiches zu verwandeln.

    Description: Die schon zu Lebzeiten durch Anhänger und Unterstützer begonnene Mythisierung Friedrichs II. und seines Enkels Konradin hat sich im Laufe der Zeit nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in Süditalien mit überraschenden Folgen lebendig erhalten. So war nämlich die Erinnerung an Konradin in dem kleinen Ort Aliano in der Provinz Matera (Basilikata) selbst zu Zeiten Carlo Levis, der dort während des Faschismus im Exil lebte, fassbar – man sprach vom letzten Staufer wie von einem Nationalhelden und betrauerte noch immer seinen Tod. Abgesehen vom menschlichen Mitgefühl, das der Tod eines Jünglings in besonderem Maße weckt, gibt der unglückliche Versuch Konradins, seine Erbansprüche auf das Königreich Sizilien geltend zu machen, immer wieder Anlass zu historiografischer Debatte. Der Band ist das Resultat einer Konferenz, die anlässlich des 750. Jahrestages der Hinrichtung Konradins und seiner adligen Gefährten 2018 an der Universität Neapel Federico II gehalten wurde.
    Description: La mitizzazione di Federico II e del nipote Corradino, iniziata quando erano ancora in vita ad opera dei loro sostenitori e aderenti, si è mantenuta inalterata nel corso del tempo sia in Germania sia Italia meridionale, e qui con esiti sorprendenti. Corradino era infatti ricordato nei primi decenni del Novecento nel piccolo centro di Aliano in provincia di Matera, dove Carlo Levi visse durante il Fascismo da confinato politico e dove dell’ultimo Svevo si parlava come di un eroe nazionale e si piangeva la morte. A prescindere dalla pietà umana, che scatta soprattutto quando la morte colpisce un adolescente, lo sfortunato tentativo di Corradino di far valere i suoi diritti ereditari sul Regno di Sicilia continua ad alimentare il dibattito storiografico, perché fornisce uno spiraglio di intelligibilità sui processi politici allora in corso non solo nell’area dell’Impero romano-germanico, di cui faceva parte l’Italia centro-settentrionale, ma anche in quella delle formazioni politiche che con esso si trovarono di volta in volta ad interagire, tra cui il Regno di Sicilia. Il volume è frutto del convegno tenutosi nel 2018 presso l’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II in occasione del 750° anniversario dell’esecuzione di Corradino e dei suoi nobili compagni.

    Description: Literary description emerges as one of the central elements of late antique poetry. It serves a dual role in that it interacts both to represent multisensory perceptions and to break through the illusion it creates through metapoetic discourse. This self-referentiality makes the late antique descriptive a space of intense literary communication between poet and readership in different genres and contexts. This study systematically examines the textual strategies of description in selected works by the poets Claudian, Prudence and Ausonius, who were active between the late 4th and early 5th centuries. The texts are analysed with regard to ancient conceptualisations of descriptio and with the help of modern models of literary and cultural studies. The texts show both a continuation and an intensification of already existing traditions, which are expressed in a productive use of intertexts, a complex mediality and a textual world that plays with distance and proximity.

In diesem Buch werden unter Einbeziehung mannigfaltiger historischer und literarischer Quellen die verschiedenen Stationen und Schattierungen des Egmont-Mythos vom Kopf an in ihrem jeweiligen Kontext beleuchtet. Auf diese Weise entwickelt der Autor ein Modell, das an ähnlich mythischen Figuren wie Masaniello, Wilhelm Tell und Jeanne d’Arc erprobt werden kann. Dieses Buch wurde 2012 im Rahmen des Programms Geisteswissenschaften International vom Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels ausgezeichnet.

Diese Studie richtet daher den Blick auf die Vielzahl der Französinnen und Franzosen, die für kurze oder längere Zeit in die sächsische Hauptstadt kamen. Anhand von zahlreichen Quellen aus deutschen und französischen Archiven werden die in Frankreich liegenden Voraussetzungen dieser Reisen, die sozialen Modalitäten und schließlich das französische Wirken am Hof und in der Stadt betrachtet. Dadurch entsteht ein facettenreiches, akteurszentriertes Bild des französisch-sächsischen Kulturtransfers.

De nouveaux réseaux de personnes et de nouvelles voies commerciales mettent en place des transferts de connaissances, parmi lesquels les liens avec la France jouent un rôle prépondérant. Cette étude se penche donc sur le grand nombre de Françaises et de Français qui, à cette époque, séjournent dans la capitale saxonne pour des périodes plus ou moins longues. Les conditions préalables en France, les modalités sociales et enfin l’action française à la cour et dans la ville sont examinées à l’aide de nombreuses sources issues d’archives françaises et allemandes. Il en résulte un portrait centré sur les acteurs et à multiples facettes du transfert culturel franco-saxon.
    Description: In the Augustan era (1694–1763), the Saxon residence city of Dresden developed into a cultural centre of the Holy Roman Empire. New networks and trade routes set knowledge transfers in motion, with connections to France taking on a prominent role. This study therefore focuses on the large number of French people who came to the Saxon capital for short or long periods of time. The study includes an examination of the French prerequisites of these journeys, the social modalities and finally the French activities at court and in the city based on numerous sources from German and French archives. In this way, Christian Gründig draws a multifaceted, actor-centred picture of Franco-Saxon cultural transfer.

Diese Studie analysiert niederländische und belgische Presse-, Radio- und Fernsehberichte über spektakuläre NS-Verfahren. Der Eichmann- und der Auschwitz-Prozess stehen im Zentrum des Interesses; der Nürnberger Hauptprozess wird als frühes Beispiel vergleichend herangezogen. Während sich der Umfang der Beiträge und die vermittelten Informationen in den Massenmedien gleichen, ergeben sich bei der Frage nach den langfristigen gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen eklatante Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Ländern. Besonders aufschlussreich ist dabei der Umgang mit der eigenen Besatzungsvergangenheit.

    Description: Title in English: Letters from the Imperial Court: The Last Luxembourgs in the Diplomatic Correspondence from the Gonzaga Archive in Mantua (1380–1436) The publication brings a critical edition of Latin and Italian correspondence from the court of the Holy Roman Kings or Emperors Wenceslas (1376–1400/1419) and Sigismund (1410/1411–1437), preserved in the archives of the Gonzaga family in Mantua. The edition contains 52 documents, including letters and mandates of the two Luxembourg monarchs and their officials, but most importantly dispatches sent by Gonzaga envoys from the imperial court to Italy. The individual sources shed new light on Wenceslas and Sigismund as rulers and offer a vivid insight into the life of the court, the practice of diplomacy and the everyday life of travel. In addition, they provide an interesting picture of Bohemian and German lands in the Late Middle Ages from the perspective of Italian observers.

    Description: Dieser Sammelband setzt sich mit den Deutschlandbildern in Belgien bis zum Beginn der deutschen Okkupation im Jahre 1940 auseinander. Betrachtet werden diese aus Sicht unterschiedlicher Geisteswissenschaften wie Philosophie, Literatur, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft. Die traditionellen Topoi der deutschen Imagologie, die überall in Europa eine große Resonanz gefunden haben (das romantische Deutschland, das Land der Dichter und Denker, aber ab dem Krieg von 1870 auch das preußische Feindbild), werden dabei in Betracht gezogen. Konstitutiv für den Prozess der Identitätsbildung in Belgien bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war die deutsch-germanische Komponente, die in der Metapher der sog. âme belge als Kultursynthese zum Ausdruck kam. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs hat hier besonders traumatisch gewirkt, was zur Folge hatte, dass diese partielle „Zugehörigkeit“ Belgiens zur deutschen Kultursphäre drastisch neuevaluiert wurde, unabhängig von der Schaffung eines deutschsprachigen Gebiets in Belgien durch den Versailler Vertrag.

    Description: »The Higher Education System of the City of Königsberg in Prussia 1800 to 1915«: The study is the first to present the secondary school system of the capital and royal seat Königsberg in Prussia in the period from 1800 to 1915 – against the background of striking supraregional events affecting the entire state of Prussia. The author explores the regional characteristics of the ›Gymnasien‹ as well as the development of the ›Realanstalten‹ and the higher education of girls. Among the eight schools included, the ›Königliches Friedrichs-Kollegium‹ occupies a prominent position because of its model character for all of Prussia. Wilhelm von Humboldt‘s activities in Königsberg, which were fundamental for the school reform from 1809 onwards, and the Königsberg school plan he developed there are dealt with in detail by the author. In accordance with Humboldt‘s goal of equal status for the subjects Latin and Greek, mathematics and history, these and the corresponding teaching subjects as well as research at Königsberg University are considered in detail. A separate chapter is devoted to the reception of Humboldt‘s school concept in the Baltic provinces.

Die Autorin erforscht die regionalen Besonderheiten der Gymnasien sowie die Entwicklung der Realanstalten und der höheren Mädchenbildung. Unter den acht einbezogenen Schulen nimmt das Königliche Friedrichs-Kollegium wegen seines Modellcharakters für ganz Preußen eine hervorgehobene Stellung ein. Auf die für die Schulreform ab 1809 grundlegende Tätigkeit Wilhelm von Humboldts in Königsberg und seinen dort entwickelten Königsberger Schulplan geht die Autorin umfassend ein. Gemäß der von Humboldt angestrebten Gleichrangigkeit der Fächer Latein und Griechisch, Mathematik und Geschichte werden diese und die entsprechenden Lehrfächer sowie die Forschung an der Königsberger Universität detailliert betrachtet. Der Rezeption von Humboldts Schulkonzept in den baltischen Ostseeprovinzen ist ein eigenes Kapitel gewidmet. Die Arbeit wurde ausgezeichnet mit dem Gierschke-Dornburg-Preis 2021.

    Description: The Auerspergs [Turjaški] are among the rare noble families in the Slovenian territory with systematically preserved archives that date back to the Middle Ages. Most archival materials of the family, which was largely embedded in the framework of the Province of Carniola until the end of the 15th century, are presently kept in two private family archives: the Turjak Comital Fideicomiss Archives (Gräflich Auersperg'sches Fideikommisarchiv), first kept in the Turjak Castle until 1942 and now in the Carinthian Provincial Archives in Klagenfurt, and the Turjak Ducal Archives (Fürstlich Auersperg'sches Archiv), which were first moved to the Turjak Palace in Ljubljana and the Lower Austrian Lösensteinleiten Castle and finally ended up in the Viennese Haus-, Hof-, und Staatsarchiv.Turjaška knjiga listin 1 (1218–1400) [Turjak Book of Charters I (1218–1400)] contains 277 charters from the private archives of the Carniolan comital and ducal lines of the Auerspergs [Turjaški]. Published in their entirety, the charters are equipped with Slovenian regests and followed in the end by a comprehensive index of names and pictures of seals from the charters. With the publication of the Turjak charters, Slovenian historiography has gained an indispensable aid for the research of Slovenian medieval and modern history.
    Description: V Turjaški knjigi listin I (1218–1400) je objavljeno 277 listin iz zasebnih arhivov kranjske grofovske in knežje linije Turjaških (Auerspergov), ki so jih v sklopu grajskega arhiva do leta 1942 hranili na gradu Turjak, danes pa so shranjene izven slovenskega ozemlja. Listine so objavljene v celoti, opremljene so s slovenskimi regesti, ob koncu pa sledijo še obsežno imensko kazalo in slike pečatov z listin. Pripravljena izdaja turjaških listin sega do leta 1400 in je prvi del serije, v kateri bodo v končni fazi objavljene vse, tudi novoveške turjaške listine. Slovensko zgodovinopisje bo z objavo turjaških listin pridobilo nepogrešljiv pripomoček za raziskovanje slovenske srednjeveške in novoveške zgodovine.

Zahlreiche seiner Publikationen behandeln und deuten die Geschichte der deutschen Katastrophe im Nationalsozialismus. Kershaws Werke haben in ihren englischen Originalfassungen sowie in den deutschen Übersetzungen breite internationale Beachtung gefunden. Zum Preisträger: Sir Ian Kershaw wurde 1943 in Oldham, Lancashire, geboren. Er studierte in Liverpool und Oxford. Nach Tätigkeiten an den Universitäten Manchester, Bochum und Nottingham lehrte er bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2008 als Professor für moderne Geschichte an der Universität Sheffield. Sir Ian Kershaw ist Träger des Bundesverdienstkreuzes.

    Description: The Russian Revolution of 1917, which in reality consisted of several uprisings, forms the caesura between the »long« 19th and the »short« 20th century and ushered in the so-called »Age of Extremes« (Eric Hobsbawm). Many who had believed in the success of the revolution were bitterly disappointed by the actual developments. Once again, a revolution had not been able to achieve what many had expected, even longed for. The revolutionary uprising of February 1917 ended with its corruption in October of the same year. On the basis of an analytical comparative model, Frank Jacob addresses the question of the process of this corruption and shows whether it was due to an inevitable development of events or rather to the will to power of a few.
    Description: Die Russische Revolution von 1917, die in Wirklichkeit aus mehreren Erhebungen bestand, bildet die Zäsur zwischen »langem« 19. und »kurzem« 20. Jahrhundert und leitete das sogenannte »Zeitalter der Extreme« (Eric Hobsbawm) ein. Viele, die an den Erfolg der Revolution geglaubt hatten, wurden von den tatsächlichen Entwicklungen bitter enttäuscht. Wieder einmal war eine Revolution nicht dazu in der Lage gewesen, das zu erreichen, was von vielen erwartet, ja herbeigesehnt wurde. Die revolutionäre Erhebung des Februar 1917 endete mit ihrer Korrumpierung im Oktober desselben Jahres. Frank Jacob widmet sich auf Basis eines analytischen Vergleichsmodells der Frage nach dem Prozess dieser Korrumpierung und zeigt, ob diese einer zwangsläufigen Entwicklung der Ereignisse oder vielmehr dem Machtwillen einiger weniger geschuldet war.

    Description: The text-critical edition Turjaška knjiga listin II [Turjak Book of Charters II], containing 436 published documents from the 15th century, completes the medieval corpus of charters from the private archives of the Carniolan comital and ducal lines of the Auerspergs. Published in their entirety, the charters are equipped with Slovenian regests and followed in the end by a comprehensive index of names and pictures of seals from the charters.The Auerspergs [Turjaški] are among the rare noble families in the Slovenian territory with systematically preserved archives that date back to the Middle Ages. Most archival materials of the family, which was largely embedded in the framework of the Province of Carniola until the end of the 15th century, are presently kept in two private family archives: the Turjak Comital Fideicomiss Archives (Gräflich Auersperg'sches Fideikommisarchiv), first kept in the Turjak Castle until 1942 and now in the Carinthian Provincial Archives in Klagenfurt, and the Turjak Ducal Archives (Fürstlich Auersperg'sches Archiv), which were first moved to the Turjak Palace in Ljubljana and the Lower Austrian Lösensteinleiten Castle and finally ended up in the Viennese Haus-, Hof-, und Staatsarchiv.
    Description: Tekstno-kritična edicija s 436 objavljenimi dokumenti iz 15. stoletja zaključuje srednjeveški korpus listin iz zasebnih arhivov kranjske grofovske in knežje linije Turjaških (Auerspergov), ki so jih v sklopu grajskega arhiva do leta 1942 hranili na gradu Turjak, danes pa so shranjene izven slovenskega ozemlja. Listine so objavljene v celoti, opremljene so s slovenskimi regesti, ob koncu pa sledijo še obsežno imensko kazalo in slike pečatov z listin.

    Description: The first Habsburg estates in Carniola were part of territorial acquisitions in eastern Alpine lands that the ascending dynasty obtained in the war with King Ottokar II of Bohemia towards the end of the thirteenth century and then gradually expanded. Even though the Habsburg dynastic territory had by the 1380s covered almost the entire Carniola, the economic base (landed property, which provided the provincial prince with regular income) was considerably limited. A sizeable portion of the territory was burdened by fiefs and pledges. The redemption of one of the vastest sets of pledged estates in the mid-1430s led to the emergence of account books for the following Carniolan fiscal properties: Kamnik, Gamberk, Goričane, Ig, Višnja Gora, Štatenberk, Novo mesto, Kostanjevica with offices Raka and Vivodina, Pazin, Završje, and Vranja. The account books serve as an extraordinary source for the economic history of the late Middle Ages, by also reflecting the turbulent period of the Habsburg European-wide ascendancy and Frederick’s war with the Counts of Celje. The volume constitutes a critical edition of the account books, with the accompanying discussion in the field of property, administrative and political history.
    Description: Zametki habsburške posesti na Kranjskem sodijo v sklop ozemeljskih pridobitev v vzhodnoalpskih deželah, ki jih je vzpenjajoča se dinastija iztržila iz bojev s češkim kraljem Otokarjem II. Přemyslom proti koncu 13. stoletja in so jih kasneje še razširili. Čeprav je v okvir habsburškega dinastičnega teritorija že v osemdesetih letih 14. stoletja spadal večji del kranjskega ozemlja, pa je bil gospodarski temelj (posest, ki je prinašala dohodke) bistveno manjši. Dobršen del ozemlja so bremenili fevdi in zastave. Ob sprostitvi enega od obsežnejših sklopov zastavljene posesti sredi tridesetih let 15. stoletja so nastali obračuni kranjskih komornih gospostev, in sicer za gospostva: Kamnik, Gamberk, Goričane, Ig, Višnja Gora, Štatenberk, Novo mesto, Kostanjevica z uradoma Raka in Vivodina, Pazin, Završje in Vranja. Obračuni predstavljajo izjemen vir za gospodarsko zgodovino poznega srednjega veka, obenem pa se v njih zrcali razgibano obdobje habsburškega evropskega vzpona in Friderikove vojne s celjskimi grofi. Knjiga prinaša tekstnokritično edicijo obračunov s spremljajočo uvodno razpravo s področja posestne, upravne in politične zgodovine.

    Description: As in all medieval cities, writing became increasingly important in Hamburg in the course of the later Middle Ages. In addition to the creation of various city books, there was a growing need to safely store the originals of important documents. These were collected in the so-called Threse, which soon formed a separate section of the emerging municipal archive. Although the holdings in the Hamburg State Archives are largely complete (with the exception of some losses due to the Second World War, among other things), the indexing by Johann Martin Lappenberg, which took place after the fire in Hamburg City Hall in 1842, still forms the basis for working with the material today. A comprehensive scholarly reappraisal remained a desideratum for a long time.
