    Notizen: Abstract It has been reported that, by adding equal amounts of CaO and CuO to non superconducting La3Ba3Cu6O z (La-336), a series of superconductors with nominal compositions La3Ca y Ba3Cu6+y O z were prepared with maximum Ton c ∼ 80K. Similar studies on addition of CaO and CuO in nonsuperconducting LaBaCu2O z (La-112) resulted into superconducting LaCaBaCu3O z (La-1113). To date no attempt has been made to synthesize La2CaBa2Cu5O z (La-2125) superconducting phase by addition of CaO and CuO to non superconducting La2Ba2Cu4O z (La-224) system. Also no reports are published to study the effect of replacing larger La3+-ions (1.01Å) by smaller rare earth ions viz Y3+(0.89Å), Er3+(0.91Å), Gd3+(0.91Å) on the structural and superconducting properties of (La2−x R x )Ba2(Ca y Cu4+y )O z (LRBCaC); 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5; y=2x system. In this paper, we report the method of synthesis, structural and superconducting property characterization using X-ray diffraction, oxygen content measurements using iodometry, resistivity measurements using d.c. four probe technique and a.c. susceptibility measurements in the temperature range RT to 15K. Also a comparative study, on the evolution of superconducting phase with Ca-concentration for different rare earth substitutions for LRBCaC system in the context of hole doping mechanism, is carried out.

    Notizen: Abstract Measurements of the electrical resistance and noise in YBCO high-T c granular superconductors show that the separation between the noise peak, which is near the zero-resistance temperature, and the maximum of the |dR/dT| from the high temperatures, increases with the magnetic field. In a variable magnetic field, the separation between the peak in the noise and the peak in |dR/dH| increases with the temperature. The thermal fluctuations are enhanced by a high applied magnetic field and by a high temperature. In the low-temperature part of the superconducting transition, there are oscillations of the thermal fluctuations whose peaks are increased toward high temperatures. The range between the successive peaks of |dR/dT| is decreased at high temperatures because the number of the vortex lines within the vortex bundles is diminished.

    Notizen: Abstract We have grown PrBa2Cu3O7−x (PBCO) thin films on (100) SrTiO3 substrates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies indicate that the orientation of PBCO films varied with increasing deposition temperature: b axis oriented films can be grown at 680°C, and a axis oriented films at the temperature between 692°C and 705°C. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) reveals that a good flatness of the films was obtained with surface mean roughness of less than 24 Å, indicating that it is suitable for use as template layers in a axis oriented epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7−y /PBCO and YBCO/tetragonal–YBCO/PBCO multilayer structures.

    Notizen: Abstract Persistent photoconductivity is an interesting and unusual property of high temperature superconductors. Illumination of these compounds can lead to a change in doping that is persistent at low temperature and relaxes back to its initial value at elevated temperatures. This photodoping can give rise to an improvement of superconducting properties, which is contrary to the illumination effects in conventional superconductors. Furthermore, these photo-induced effects can also be used to probe and modify the properties of grain boundaries in grain boundary Josephson junctions. This paper reviews the experimental data and proposed theoretical models related to these photoinduced effects.

    Notizen: Abstract As for irradiated Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystals annealed in flowing N2 atmosphere, flowing O2 atmosphere, and air, their superconductivity was degraded during exposure to air. The degradation of superconducting transition temperature T c is attributed to the doping of oxygen. The small recovery of T c may be related to the redistribution of oxygen. The superconductivity of samples annealed in N2 atmosphere and air is more stable than that of the sample annealed in O2 atmosphere during exposure to air.

    Notizen: Abstract Two series of Hg-based oxides (Hg0.7Mo0.3)Sr2(Ca1−x R x )Cu2O z (R = Nd and Pr, 0.2 ≤ x ≤ 0.7) have been synthesized. Electrical-resistivity measurements show that these compounds are superconductors with maximum onset T c of 107 and 102 K for Nd- and Pr-containing samples, respectively. The neutron powder diffraction experiments on both as-prepared and O2-annealed samples of R = Nd revealed that the O(3) site at the HgOδ sheets are fully occupied and shifted towards the Hg/Mo site to form Mo–O bonds.

    Notizen: Abstract It has been found that the Pb-3222 phase sample could been synthesized in Ce-free Pb-Sr-La-Gd-Cu-O system and the nearly single-phase samples can be obtained within a limited composition. Then, among the nearly single-phase samples, a sample with a nominal composition of Pb2Sr1.4La0.7Gd1.9Cu3O z shows a diamagnetic signal with an onset around 20 K. The superconducting behavior is supposed to arise from the Pb-3222 phase.

    Notizen: Abstract We have studied the role of interlayer interactions (W) in the pressure dependence of T c of layered superconductors. The expressions for dT c /dP are obtained by including the effects of layered structure within the framework of two different proposed models, namely the negative-U Hubbard model and the Hirsch model. We observe that the inclusion of interlayer interaction provides better explanation of pressure dependence of T c . Our numerical results show that the systems having one CuO2 layer per unit cell may be well described by small values of W while the larger values of W accounts for the systems having two or more superconducting layers in a unit cell. The calculated values of dT c /dP vs. W are found to be in good agreement with those of experimental results obtained for various high T c superconductors of cuprate family.

    Notizen: Abstract The substitution of strontium for lead in the material (La1.5Pb0.5−x Sr x )CuO z , x = 0–0.15 has been carried out. A stable and reproducible single phased superconducting materials can be obtained inside an evacuated quartz tube. The X-ray diffraction pattern shows that the superconducting phase can be indexed on the basis of an orthorhombic symmetry (F mmm) for x = 0 and on the basis of tetragonal symmetry (I 4/mmm) for x 〉 0. The transition temperature T c increases as the strontium substitution parameter x increases. We observed the maximal T c around x = 0.15 with 38 K with fairly large Meissner volume fraction of 38% (FC).
