    Beschreibung: Title in English: Non-traditional students studying education in Czech universities. This publication is devoted to the topic of non-traditional students in tertiary education. The key criteria for our definition of this group are age and a break in the formal educational trajectory after high school. From among all the non-traditional students in Czech higher education, we selected those who chose university studies in study programs that qualify them for work in education (e.g., teachers, counsellors, youth workers, teacher assistants, social educators, and adult educators). The book is divided into 11 interconnected chapters presenting theoretical background, methodology and results of mixed design research conducted by the team of authors.

    Beschreibung: Title in English: Productive culture of teaching and learning in didactic case studies The book introduces the issue of productive culture of teaching and learning in broader didactical context. In the first part of the book, three areas of productive culture of teaching and learning are as theoretical framework presented: 1. clarity, structure, coherence, 2. cognitive activation, instrumentalization, semantization, 3. Supportive learning environment. The second part of the book presents 17 didactic case studies that have been developed by teams that consisted of researchers and teachers from schools. The aim of didactic case studies is to highlight key areas of productive culture of teaching and learning.

    Beschreibung: The aim of the research report is to present the results of the representative survey carried out in the RESTABUS project. This survey is the first of its kind and scope in the Czech Republic in its focus on mapping the prevalence of elder abuse, exploitation, neglect, other violence and undermining of dignity of older people (EAN). The survey was carried out among 2687 respondents aged 65 to 99 years living at home (outside residential care) and is representative of the older population in the Czech Republic. The topic of EAN is complemented by issues of the perceived prevalence of EAN in the public space, capturing attitudes towards restorative justice, and early trauma incidents (experience of violence in childhood and middle age). Thus, the research not only describes the level of prevalence of violence and ill-treatment of older people in the Czech Republic, but also maps the impact of experienced incidents on the quality of life of persons at risk, ascertains the attitudes of the older people towards the functionality of available forms of help and support, and suggests the direction of their possible further development. The report includes a methodological section, a results section and a tabular annex.

The open access book celebrates the anniversary of Tarja Pösö and her career as distinguished Professor of Social Work in the University of Tampere. Edited by Rosi Enroos, Mikko Mäntysaari and Satu Ranta-Tyrkkö, the book asks what kind of elements make social work research meaningful and does social work research have a particular mission and specific ethical and moral obligations, when compared to other disciplines. The research on social work research being scanty in Finland, the book expands the discussion on the particular nature of social work research. Meaningful Research discusses social work research in general and the research of child protection in particular. The book consists of an introductory chapter and two thematic sections, Vantage Points to the Meaningfulness and Missions, and Meaningfulness and Missions of Child Protection Research. The former section covers wide range of issues from concerns regarding the training of new social work researchers, change and time as the methodologically central elements of social work, the meaningfulness of social work practice, and the future ethics of social work in a world of globally evolving risks. The second, child protection specific section analyses demanding situations in substitute care, the methodologically meaningful research concerning the function of youth residential care, the legitimacy and resources of child protection research in Finland, ending with an English language article that elaborates on the meaningfulness of comparative research on child protection systems. Näkökulmia sosiaalityön tutkimuksen missioihin on kokoomateos, jonka läpileikkaavana teemana on sosiaalityön tutkimuksen mielekkyyden, merkityksen ja missioiden pohtiminen. Avoimesti verkossa luettava kirja juhlistaa Tampereen yliopiston sosiaalityön professori Tarja Pösön merkkipäivää, ja sen ovat toimittaneet Rosi Enroos, Mikko Mäntysaari ja Satu Ranta-Tyrkkö. Kirjassa kysytään, millaisista elementeistä sosiaalityön tutkimuksen mielekkyys rakentuu ja onko sosiaalityön tutkimuksella muihin tieteenaloihin verrattuna oma missio ja erityisiä eettisiä ja moraalisia velvoitteita. Koska Suomessa on ilmestynyt varsin vähän tutkimusta sosiaalityön tutkimuksesta, kirja on tärkeä avaus sosiaalityön tutkimuksen erityislaatuisuuteen. Kirja tarkastelee sosiaalityön tutkimusta yleisesti sekä lastensuojelun tutkimusta erityisesti.     Beschreibung: Title in English: Inclusive Didactics in Elementary School Practice: Theory, Research and Practice The aim of the methodological book is to depict the education of the children with partial function deficits in preschool age and to introduce the specifics of education of the pupils with specific learning difficulties and cognitive disability. The main focus is devoted to a role of the teachers in the inclusive education in terms of the concept of the intervention of the pupils with special needs. The research includes an analysis and an interpretation of the questionnaire SDQ Cze which was administered at the beginning and the end of the school year at the examined inclusive classrooms and the controlled classrooms of the participating schools.

    Beschreibung: Title in English: Opportunities for Development of Learner Autonomy in English Lessons This monography deals with the opportunities for development of learner autonomy that teachers provide in their English lessons at lower-secondary schools. The conducted research shows the opportunities that were provided, the nature of observed English lessons with regards to learner autonomy and also teacher beliefs about learner autonomy. Moreover, research findings discuss the connection between teacher beliefs and observed lessons. The monography also describes in detail the creation of a research instrument that can be used for indirect observation of these opportunities in class. The monography points out the importance and diversity of developing learner autonomy and the research results are relevant both for primary and secondary school teachers as well as for university teachers and researchers preparing students for teaching carreer.

    Beschreibung: "Curriculum Studies (opetussuunnitelmatutkimus in Finnish) comprise an international, multidisciplinary academic approach to creating discursive spaces for restructuring of the historical, theoretical and organisational complexities and interdisciplinary intertwinements present in current education and curriculum practices. While critically registering the international trends, Curriculum Studies can provide an integrative and coordinative framework for national education policy making, curriculum reforms, teachers’ pre- and in-service education and the daily work of teachers. Curriculum Studies is an indispensable element in teacher education programs in order to expand the professional horizon of student teachers and make their tacit assumptions of education and teaching more explicit and articulate. The book consists of ten peer-reviewed articles, which are organised according to three main themes. The first theme, A history of Finnish curriculum theory, would render an effort to explicate and contextualise the historical trajectories embodied in today’s curriculum and education theories and ideals. The two traditional master narratives, the German-Scandinavian Bildung with the Anglo-American Curriculum, have provided the contested platform for Finnish education and curriculum theories and practices. The second theme – The conflicting nature of prevailing teacher education discourses and the need for their more comprehensive and contextualised articulation – serves to juxtapose the dilemma between academic expectations and the actual working conditions of teachers. The role of teacher education is considered vital to dealing with these tensions. Another purpose of the theme is an attempt to expand and complicate the intellectual horizon of the taken-for-granted conception of the curriculum. The third theme of the book, The teacher as a curriculum theorist and curriculum maker, examines how the teacher and the school are cross-pressured by the conflicting interests of school and teacher autonomy and external supervision and evaluation. In addition, the issues of educational leadership amid the ideological tensions of the curriculum and how this complex can be engaged with the role of the teacher is scrutinised to some extent. In particular, the focal point here is the 2014 Finnish basic education curriculum reform. At best, Curriculum Studies can render the institutional education more transparent, vertically by exposing its historical trajectories and horizontally by revealing its present circumstances and political affiliations. As an academic field, the intellectual ambition of Curriculum Studies is to increasingly become aware of the normative, political and knowledge/power dynamics of education under constant negotiation with all its intended and unintended consequences. "
    Beschreibung: "Opetussuunnitelmatutkimus, englanniksi Curriculum Studies, on kansainvälinen, monitieteinen pyrkimys ymmärtää kasvatus- ja koulutustodellisuuden kokonaisuutta monimutkaisena keskusteluavaruutena. Opetussuunnitelmatutkimus informoi kansallisia opetussuunnitelmauudistuksia, koulutuspoliittista suunnittelua ja päätöksentekoa, opettajien perus- ja täydennyskoulutusta sekä opettajan työn käytännöllistä ja organisatorista arkea. Tutkimussuunta laajentaa myös opettajaksi opiskelevan ymmärrystä oman opetustyön periaatteista ja omista äänettömistä sitoumuksista. Kymmenestä vertaisarvioidusta artikkelista koostuva teos rakentuu kolmesta teemasta. Ensimmäisessä kirjan teemassa, Suomalaisen opetussuunnitelma-ajattelun historiaa, luodaan kokonaiskuvaa niistä kehityskuluista, joiden kautta on edetty 2020-luvun vallitseviin kasvatuksen ideaaleihin. Saksalainen sivistys (Bildung) -traditio yhdessä angloamerikkalaisen Curriculum-tradition kanssa ovat tuottaneet aikamme suomalaista koulutusta ja opetussuunnitelma-ajattelua. Toisessa kirjan teemassa, Opettajankoulutuksen diskurssien jännitteisyys ja monipuolistaminen, puretaan dilemmoja, joissa koulutukseen kohdennetut akateemiset ja tieteelliset odotukset törmäävät opettajan työtodellisuuteen liittyviin vaatimuksiin. Opettajankoulutuksen rooli jännitteiden purkamisessa nähdään keskeisenä. Lisäksi tarkastelussa pyritään opetussuunnitelmadiskursseja monimutkaistamalla laajentamaan opetussuunnitelmaa koskevaa ymmärrystä. Kolmannessa kirjan teemassa, Opettaja opetussuunnitelman tulkitsijana ja toteuttajana, tarkastellaan koulun ja opettajan asemaa autonomian ja ulkoisen ohjauksen ristipaineessa sekä opettajaa pedagogisena johtajana ja opetussuunnitelman ideologisuutta tulkitsevana toimijana. Katse suunnataan myös vuoden 2014 perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelmauudistukseen. Opetussuunnitelmatutkimus tekee näkyväksi sen, miten institutionaalinen kasvatus on sekä historiallista että poliittista; se on arvosidonnaista, jännitteistä ja jatkuvan neuvottelun kohteena olevaa. Sitä koskevissa neuvotteluissa kaikilla päätöksillä ja ratkaisuilla on seurauksensa. "
