    Notizen: Abstract Fundamental aspects of electroless Ni–B, Co–B and Ni–Co–B alloys have been systematically examined. The composition, crystal structure and deposition rate of the alloys were determined as a function of the concentration of reducing agent (dimethylamineborane) and complexing agents (tartrate, citrate, malonate and succinic acid), bath pH and Ni2+/Co2+ ratio. Changes in the deposition rate and metallurgical features of the alloys induced by the change in plating parameters are discussed, based on electrochemical polarization data and the formation enthalpy of the nickel and cobalt borides.

    Notizen: Abstract Two series of Hg-based oxides (Hg0.7Mo0.3)Sr2(Ca1−x R x )Cu2O z (R = Nd and Pr, 0.2 ≤ x ≤ 0.7) have been synthesized. Electrical-resistivity measurements show that these compounds are superconductors with maximum onset T c of 107 and 102 K for Nd- and Pr-containing samples, respectively. The neutron powder diffraction experiments on both as-prepared and O2-annealed samples of R = Nd revealed that the O(3) site at the HgOδ sheets are fully occupied and shifted towards the Hg/Mo site to form Mo–O bonds.

    Notizen: Abstract We have investigated the relation between the crystal structure and superconductivity in La1.9Bi0.1CuO4+δ , in which the phase separation observed in La2CuO4+δ is suppressed. A phase diagram in theT−δ plane is given for La1.9Bi0.1CuO4+δ with excess oxygen. For very smallδ values, the crystal structure is orthorhombic, and an orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition occurs markedly atδ ∼ 0.03 in the measured temperature range between 13 and 293 K. Superconductivity is observed in the range of 0.04〈δ〈0.11. This is clear evidence thathigh-T c superconductivity also appears in the tetragonal phase.

    Notizen: Abstract Joining YBa2Cu3O6.5+δ (123 phase) and Bi4Sr4Ca2Cu4O16+δ (4424 phase) as structurally characterized high-T c , superconductors, the thallium-containing superconductor (Tl.75Bi.25)1.33Sr1.33Ca1.33Cu2O6.667+δ with the ideal stoichiometry (Tl,Bi)1Sr2Ca1Cu2O6.5+δ (1212 phase) is reported here. As prepared from the component oxides, 1212 has an initial deviation from resistance linearity at 120 K, a superconducting onset temperature of 92 K, and zero resistance at 75 K. The tetragonal unit cell (P4/mmm, a=3.800 Å;c=12.072 Å, deduced from powder data) contains double copper oxygen sheets (like 4424 and 123) that alternate withsingle thallium-bismuth oxygen sheets (in contrast to 4424, which containsdouble bismuth oxygen sheets), resulting in a total of three stacked perovskite-like cells (as in 123). The copper oxide sheets (with intersheet spacing 3.38 Å) are separated by Ca2+ and the Cu oxide sheets and (Tl,Bi) oxide sheets (with spacing 4.35 Å) are separated by Sr2+, Ca2+, and excess (Tl,Bi)3+. The 1212 cell constitutes the building block for the centered, more complex 4424 cell. The 1212 structure persists to Bi contents as low as 1% and can also be stabilized by Pb instead of Bi; Tl cuprates also form other superconductors with lowerT c .

    Notizen: Abstract The structural and superconducting properties of (Gd1−x−y Ca y M x )Ba2Cu3O z with M = Mo, Hf are investigated using X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, and oxygen content measurements. The effect of increasing the Mo concentration in (Gd1−x Mo x )Ba2Cu3O z changes the structure from orthorhombic to tetragonal accompanied by a large increase in resistivity and a fast decrease in T c at the rate of 1.9 K per at.% of Mo, unlike that of Hf substitution in (Gd1−x Hf x )Ba2Cu3O z , which maintains the orthorhombic structure and decreases T c very slowly at the rate of 0.6 K per atm.% of Hf with nearly no change in resistivity. The suppression of T c by M = Mo, Hf can be counterbalanced by hole doping by Ca which increases T c with increasing Ca content showing maximum compensation for Mo. A comparative study of M = Mo, Hf doped samples in (Gd1−x−y Ca y M x )Ba2Cu3O z indicates that the valence of the dopant M = Mo4+,6+, Hf4+ and its ionic radius play an important role in controlling the structural and superconducting properties of the systems.

    Notizen: Abstract Single crystals of Y2Cu2O5 were obtained in the flux growth process by controlled heating of a mixture of Y2O3, BaO, and CuO in a molar ratio of 1∶8∶20. These crystals were analyzed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal contains polymeric chains of Cu2O5 interspersed by yttrium ions surrounded by octahedral arrangements of oxygen atoms. Crystal data: space group=Pna21,a=10.799(2) Å,b=3.4990(5) Å,c=12.459(2) Å,Z=4, 380 reflections,R=0.026,R w=0.030.

    Notizen: Abstract The Lattice dynamics of Ba.6K.4BiO3 was investigated by inelastic neutron scattering on a superconducting single crystal (T c =26 K (midpoint)). At low frequencies the dispersion curves are very similar to those observed in BaPb.75Bi.25O3. Differences were found in the bond bending vibrations of the BiO6 octahedra which indicate that the binding in the K-doped compound is more ionic. Rather anomalous features were observed in the high frequency Bi-O bond stretching vibrations which resemble those observed in the high T c cuprates La1.85Sr.15CuO4 and YBa2Cu3O7. The observed frequency shifts are interpreted as the consequence from a strong electron phonon coupling. The data are compared to the results obtained on non superconducting Ba.98K.02BiO3.

    Notizen: Abstract Y0.4Pr0.6Ba2−xCaxCu3O7−δ polycrystalline samples were prepared and investigated. The Ca substitution led to a structural variation toward tetragonal symmetry, possibly due to the structural modification within the Cu(1)O layer. Superconductivity and metallic conduction were recovered whenx≥0.2, giving one more evidence for the existence of the ion-size effect at the Ba site.

    Notizen: Abstract The single-phased series of Sr-bearing Hg-1212 superconducting cuprate,(Hg0.7Mo0.3)Sr2(Sr1−x La x )Cu2O z has been prepared. X-ray diffraction showed that, the obtained samples belong to the 1212-structure with tetragonal space group P4/mmm, similar to that of (Hg, Mo)Sr2(Ca, Y)Cu2Oz, and stabilized in a wide compositional range of 0.25≤x≤0.75. Refinements of the structure are carried out in which the oxygen atoms at the (Hg, Mo) layer is shifted from high-symmetry position (0.5, 0.5, 0) to (x, x, 0). Magnetization and electrical resistivity measurements show that the as-prepared samples exhibit evidence for superconductivity and their superconducting properties were improved after O2 annealing with T onset c as high as 92 K.

    Notizen: Abstract The substitution of strontium for lead in the material (La1.5Pb0.5−x Sr x )CuO z , x = 0–0.15 has been carried out. A stable and reproducible single phased superconducting materials can be obtained inside an evacuated quartz tube. The X-ray diffraction pattern shows that the superconducting phase can be indexed on the basis of an orthorhombic symmetry (F mmm) for x = 0 and on the basis of tetragonal symmetry (I 4/mmm) for x 〉 0. The transition temperature T c increases as the strontium substitution parameter x increases. We observed the maximal T c around x = 0.15 with 38 K with fairly large Meissner volume fraction of 38% (FC).
