    Hydroclimate in a Changing World: Recent Trends, Current Progress and Future Directions (2024)

    Description: Global warming is imposing tremendous challenges upon human and otherwise biotic life on Earth. A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture. The consensus is that the moisture transport by the atmospheric circulation strengthens and makes already wet areas of moisture convergence wetter and already dry areas of moisture divergence drier. Therefore, the tropics and mid-to-high latitudes will get wetter and the subtropics will get drier. Without any change in the interannual variability of hydroclimate, the change in the mean hydroclimate would equally increase drought risk in some places and flood risk in others. Moreover, global warming will cause the interannual variability of the hydroclimate to intensify, which will induce more droughts and floods. Furthermore, the changing atmospheric circulation interaction with the land surface may cause storm track alterations and may play an important role in shaping moisture redistribution. The author's contributions have documented the precipitation trends in southeast of the US, the Nile River Basin Ethiopia, Iraq, the Huai River Basin of northern China, and the Qilian Mountains of western China. The precipitation predictability on both global and regional scales are also studied. The interaction among climate systems in southeast Asia is also explicitly documented.

    Description: This open access book provides multidisciplinary perspectives on the potential of agroforestry to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on cocoa production. Against the backdrop of increasingly precarious farmer livelihoods, it focuses on cocoa-agroforestry in Ghana – the second largest producer of cocoa in the world. Taking the reader on a journey across experimental plots and on-farm studies, the book delivers a holistic understanding of cocoa-agroforestry. Chapters examine historical yield and climate interactions, the effects of heat and drought on cocoa plants and the role of differing shade trees on soil fertility, yields, pests and diseases. The book discusses the socioeconomics of shade tree management, including cost-benefits, tree rights and competition for natural resources emphasizing policy implications and recommendations. Taking a multidisciplinary approach to climate-agriculture interactions, the book provides an innovative understanding of agroforestry and perennial cropping systems that goes beyond the Ghanaian cocoa belt. It is of relevance to students, researchers, farmers, practitioners and policymakers working with agroforestry and climate change adaptation. This is an open access book.

    Description: This open access book explores the intersection of gender and climate change, suggests ways in which innovative technologies can accelerate climate relief actions, and offers strategies for integrating climate change initiatives into national policies and planning. By examining the devastating consequences of climate change on women and girls throughout the continent, the authors pose a crucial question: Does gender matter in climate change discussions in Africa? Political and social traditions have burdened women with greater vulnerability to the impacts of climate-related natural disasters, including violence, displacement, poverty, famine and lack of access to clean water. However, women are also key to effective and inclusive climate mitigation, adaptation, and decision-making. The authors provide a compelling discourse that identifi es the social and economic benefi ts for all citizens when genderinclusive policies shape equitable and targeted action plans, from mitigationto adaptation and funding. At the core of the book is the growing migration to Finland since the turn of the 1990s and its numerous effects on Finnish society.     Description: Feedback from teachers is of great importance for the learning development of pupils. For optimal support of learning processes, it is important how students perceive and utilise feedback. Based on theoretical supply-utilisation models, this book addresses the question of the extent to which students in upper secondary school perceive feedback from teachers in German lessons differently and how this perception affects students' motivation development. The findings from latent change models provide information on the stability and change in feedback perception over the course of a school term as well as on differences in feedback perception between students. In addition, the longitudinal analyses highlight the interplay between different dimensions of feedback quality and the development of learning motivation. The findings expand the state of research on the perception of feedback and the development of differentiated effects on motivation and also open up a wide range of suggestions for educational practice.

    Description: Collective monograph contains the results of scientific research devoted to some problems of continuous education. The proposed models and methods make it possible to form new views and proposals that can contribute to increasing the efficiency of the educational process. Chapter 1 highlights the results of a pedagogical experiment on the formation of organizational competence among future specialists in physical culture and sports of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The dynamics of the formation of organizational competence is determined and it is shown that the application of the obtained results makes it possible to find out the formation of value-motivational, knowledge, managerial, managerial, control-corrective and reflective-evaluative components of organizational competence of cadets. Chapter 2 focuses on the current problems of adult education in Ukraine and Sweden, which acquire special significance through the prism of the "value rearmament" of a person of the 21st century. The features of trends in adult education at the global and local levels are clarified, and the author's interactive intensive course is offered. Chapter 3 presents the development of innovative models of effectiveness for communication in a foreign language with an emphasis on lifelong learning and multiculturalism. Integration of "inverted classroom" models, models based on tasks of immersion in the concept of technology application for improving language learning is proposed. It is shown that the introduction of technologies in language learning can improve access to resources and increase the effectiveness of education. Chapter 4 is devoted to the management of professional development of professional staff of Ukrainian universities in the context of the expansion of institutional autonomy. The obtained results can be considered as part of the integration processes of higher education of Ukraine in the European educational space In Chapter 5, the means of developing individual and group receptivity to the new are disclosed. It is shown that corporate training through active methods, modern management models and technologies, coaching training technologies acquires special importance. The monograph is intended for educators, theoreticians and practitioners who study the problems of the continuous educational process in order to increase its effectiveness.

La investigación utiliza dos técnicas de recolección de datos: encuestas y evaluaciones. Los instrumentos, un cuestionario para la variable de redes sociales y un examen para la variable de ortografía, ofrecen una comprensión integral de la relación entre estas dos dimensiones. El uso del software estadístico SPSS y la prueba de hipótesis mediante el coeficiente de Spearman añaden robustez a los resultados presentados. Los resultados revelan una correlación negativa entre el uso de redes sociales y las habilidades ortográficas, desafiando preconcepciones comunes sobre la influencia positiva de la comunicación digital en la escritura. Sin embargo, el libro va más allá de esta correlación general, explorando las dimensiones específicas de la ortografía y revelando matices en la relación. La prosa clara y accesible facilita la comprensión de los hallazgos, haciendo que la obra sea accesible tanto para académicos como para lectores interesados en la evolución de la comunicación en la era digital. Además, la obra invita a la reflexión sobre cómo equilibrar la participación en redes sociales con el mantenimiento de las habilidades lingüísticas esenciales. En resumen, "Redes Sociales y Ortografía: Un Estudio con Universitarios" es una contribución valiosa al entendimiento de la influencia de las redes sociales en las habilidades escritas.     Description: This open access book offers a critical analysis of the history of the International Bureau of Education (IBE) from its founding in 1925 to its integration into UNESCO in January 1969. Based on the conceptual and methodological tools of the transnational turn and on archives, fully exploited for the first time by the research team, this book enriches knowledge of the phenomena of globalization. It does so in a field, education, which is currently one of those most invested in globalization, but whose sociogenesis in the era of its first period of institutionalization remains to be explored more profoundly. The authors do this by analyzing how the actors of the IBE tried to realize their aspiration towards universal aims in education, the contradictions they were confronted with, the causes they invested in, their operating mode and the governments and international organizations with which they cooperated.

Este libro, titulado Carolinos en Acción, se presenta como resultado de la aplicación de una estrategia didáctica y metodológica que brinda y propone una transformación en las prácticas pedagógicas a partir de la investigación escolar como herramienta pedagógica, que busca el desarrollo de un pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes carolinos, también fortalece las competencias científicas y la formación de un ciudadano de bien. La investigación escolar tiene gran trascendencia y existen precedentes de su amplio recorrido. Sin embargo, parece ser relegado, mal interpretada o no ser considerada adecuadamente en el marco de la práctica docente en la educación básica, y se limita a trasladar la tarea a escenarios futuros del estudiante como el nivel universitario o de educación superior donde es llevada a cabo por expertos en temas específicos. Lo contrario invitaría a la desmitificación de ciertos paradigmas de la investigación escolar, en los que se brinde apoyo al estudiante como agente de generación de conocimiento, se aleje al estudiante de la formación principalmente in situ, se dinamice la formación en investigación a través de la práctica, y se permite al docente reflexionar y cuestionar la información revisada, y aprender a problematizar los elementos que están en su entorno. La IEI Glorioso San Carlos busca facilitar espacios de encuentro y debate de opiniones entre docentes y estudiantes como fuente de investigación, privilegiando la iniciativa y la creatividad del estudiante y su lugar expectante entre la enseñanza y la investigación, considerando como objetivo de la investigación el hacer y producir. Cada uno de los ensayos de este resumen aborda un tema que fue elegido libremente por cada participante quienes fueron fortalecidos en la competencia escribe diversos tipos de textos y en el uso de herramientas de investigación como: uso adecuado del Word, uso del aplicativo Mendeley, búsqueda de información (bases de datos), citas y referencias en APA7, entre otros. Para la concreción de la presente publicación se implementó el proyecto de innovación “Aprendo a investigar desde mi colegio” aprobado mediante RD N° 242-2023-DREP-UGELP-DGCNSC, dirigido principalmente a estudiantes del tercer, cuarto y quinto grado de educación secundaria, considerando la investigación en la escuela como un reto para la comunidad educativa, de cara al bicentenario y como parte del Eje 3 Investigación e Innovación del Plan Bicentenario de la Institución Educativa Integrada Glorioso Colegio Nacional de San Carlos – Puno, que será un hito en el panorama educativo de la comunidad educativa que responda a la visión de la IEI. Der Sachunterricht stellt aufgrund seines umfassenden Bildungsauftrags ein herausforderndes Betätigungsfeld für Lehrkräfte dar. Das audiovisuelle Medienformat Erklärvideo kommt dabei zunehmend zur Anwendung. Anhand einer explorativen qualitativ-empirischen Studie mit österreichischen und deutschen Grundschullehrkräften wird ein Rahmenmodell zum Erklärvideoeinsatz im Sachunterricht entwickelt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sowohl die Schulschließungen im Zuge der Coronapandemie als auch der individuelle Umgang mit dem Bildungsauftrag des Sachunterrichts Motive für den Einsatz von Erklärvideos darstellen. Es werden Vorgehensweisen bei der Auswahl bzw. Gestaltung von Erklärvideos sowie didaktische Zielsetzungen und situationsspezifische Umgangsformen mit dem Medium identifiziert. Einflussfaktoren für die Nutzung von Erklärvideos sind die Verfügbarkeit passender Angebote, die technische Ausstattung sowie personenbezogene Faktoren wie persönliches Interesse und Medienkompetenz. Qualitätsvolle Erklärvideos im Sachunterricht können bei zweckmäßigem Einsatz als geeignete Bildungsressourcen für die Lernenden und als didaktisches Werkzeug für die Lehrenden betrachtet werden.

    Description: Für die Erziehungswissenschaft ist die neuerliche Debatte um Jürgen Habermas' »Strukturwandel der Öffentlichkeit« hochwillkommen. Im Rückgriff auf dessen vieldiskutierte Studie kann sie sich als Disziplin profilieren, die mit der Reflexion ebenjener Einrichtungen betraut ist, die dafür sorgen, dass aus vernunftbegabten Zweibeinern passable Diskursteilnehmer*innen werden. Gleichwohl ist die hohe Wertschätzung, die der Bildung in diesem Zusammenhang entgegengebracht wird, nicht unproblematisch. Die politische Kultur könnte, so ein Verdacht, von der fortschreitenden Akademisierung öffentlicher Debatten beschädigt werden. Demokratien gerieten in ein gefährliches Fahrwasser, wenn sie die Bedingungen zur Teilnahme am politischen Diskurs immer anspruchsvoller gestalten. Die Arenen öffentlicher Auseinandersetzungen werden daher nicht nur von jenen bedroht, die eine Politik des Ressentiments betreiben und autoritären Ordnungen das Wort reden, sondern auch von Angehörigen des Bildungsbürgertums, welche die eigenen Argumentationsstile, Überzeugungen und medialen Vorlieben generalisieren und einen Cordon sanitaire um solche Positionen errichten, die ihnen als nicht »diskussionswürdig« gelten.

    Description: The monograph reflects and scientifically and methodologically substantiates ways to solve urgent problems of the theory and practice of training officers of the National Police in terms of the quality of higher education in the context of the imperative of human-dimensional meanings, taking into account studies of Ukrainian psychological, pedagogical, legal comparative studies. In the most general form, the material is presented regarding the strategic guidelines for the quality of education in the WHE with special learning conditions in the context of Ukraine's integration into the European educational space. Philosophical and methodological approaches to solving existing disagreements in the field of human measurement of the quality of police education in Ukraine and abroad are studied in integral connection with the corresponding concepts of human development; leadership theories; the genesis of personnel work on professional training and evaluation of the activities of police officers in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Features of the human-measurement training of officers of the National Police of Ukraine are explained on the basis of the provisions of the modern post-non-classical methodology of science, a general scientific holistic approach, humanistic pedagogy, as well as the methodological foundations for the implementation of international standards of ethical behavior in the activities of police officers, which is an objective need of the current Ukrainian education system in general and in particular, a prerequisite for the prevention of corruption offenses, the vitality of virtue in society. The productivity of reflexive practices of self-organization of the personality of future police officers is substantiated as a condition for the development of psychological resilience. The book proves the necessity and prospects of research and implementation in the theory and practice of police education of the concept of Ukrainian general scientific methodology regarding the unity of the formation and development of a Human on the basis of the cognitive-emotional-volitional triad of components of the value experience of the individual. Based on the real originality of the formation of the value experience of a police officer in the process of professional training, constructive practice, the general theoretical and methodological origins and meaningful lines of practical improvement and further personal and professional growth of a police officer in their official activities as mechanisms for protecting human rights and freedoms in the activities of law enforcement officers are identified. The novelty of the approaches is associated with the use of the key foundations of psycho-pedagogical support and the development of pedagogical skills of HEI teachers with special learning conditions, the activities of mentors to harmonize the professional training of the applicant's personality in the system of departmental education, the use of a criteria approach for assessing learning outcomes, the design features of police work programs in the context of the scale of human-dimensional meanings evaluating the quality of higher education The constructiveness of this perspective is distinguished, first of all, by a holistic combination and use as the latest achievements of the psychological, pedagogical, legal, neurophysiological branches of scientific knowledge to explain the newly formed pedagogical phenomena of the modern educational sphere in the aspect of innovativeness of markers for assessing the quality of educational and research activities education; and the understanding that universal human and nation-creating value orientations as a special social basis of the culturological worldview should be extrapolated into the global function of modern education, which should determine and realize its social power that characterizes civilizational development in different historical epochs. In this context, the issues of introducing the axiological essence, designing, implementing and evaluating the relevant educational programs for training officers of the National Police are specified. In general, the developments contained in this collective monograph will be suitable for use in the pedagogical and psychological support of educational activities for the training of police officers both in the framework of formal and non-formal education.

Oftast er nyskaping omtalt i positive lada ordelag og som noko vi ønskjer å få til meir av. Men kva inneber nyskaping? Antologien løfter opp nokre spørsmål som er med å tydeleggjere kva nyskaping er. Kva skil nyskaping frå innovasjon? Kva er tilsikta og utilsikta konsekvensar av nyskapingsprosessar? Og kva skal til for å lukkast?. Krav til nyskaping kjem også til UH-sektoren, og dei ulike bidraga i antologien drøftar kva rolle UH-sektoren kan ha i nyskapinga. Nokre av kapitla tar fatt på denne debatten på eit prinsipielt nivå, gjennom å diskutere det opp mot UH-sektoren si rolle og mandatet til institusjonar innan høgare utdanning og forsking. Andre kapittel, med empiri i all hovudsak forankra i «fjordregionen», gjev viktige praktiske døme på korleis slike nyskapingsprosessar utfoldar seg i praksis. Fleire av kapitla diskuterer i større grad nyskapingar – altså produktet snarare enn prosessen. Diskusjonane frå kapitla i denne antologien syner at omgrepet nyskaping er mangfaldig. Eit viktig funn er at nyskapingsomgrepet ser ut til å representere noko anna og lettare handgripeleg for mange av aktørane enn det meir etablerte innovasjonsomgrepet. Det mogleggjer nye former for samhandling og innsikt som også er relevant langt utover regionen døma tek utgangspunkt i.

Durch eine kritische Rekonstruktion der Geschichte von der »guten Stadt« anhand klassischer sowie zeitgenössischer Beiträge - von Platons Kallipolis bis zu von Borries' Klimakapseln - zeigt Mara-Daria Cojocaru, wie ein gewisser Rest-Utopismus das gesellschaftliche Handeln in den Städten begleiten kann. Sie zeigt: Nicht die gebaute Umwelt bringt bedeutsame Formen von Gesellschaft hervor - vielmehr verhält es sich umgekehrt.

    Description: This book is an ethnographic account of education and migration from the perspective of three groups of South Koreans in contemporary China: migrant parents, children/students, and educational agents. The book reveals how these temporary migrants make choices, plan their trajectories and engage with the authorities, both in China and South Korea. Migrant subjectivities among these groups are driven by and respond to the education-migration regimes of both the sending and receiving countries. As ‘people in between’, they occupy flexible and multiple positionalities that are transnationally distributed. However, paradoxically, they experience a juxtaposition of privilege, integration and separation, which is indicative of the Chinese style of internationalisation. The book adds weight to the argument that China is a temporary destination for foreigners and not one for long-term settlement.

In this study, a (video-)ethnographic approach is chosen to explore the contribution of students to the formation of social order in the classroom. The findings show that the ‘Selbstständigkeit’ (independence) of students in individualized plan-teaching, which relies on students not only showing themselves responsible for their own progression, but also as ‘mit-zuständig’ (co-responsible) for the progression of the work processes of their classmates, is relational: The continuation, the resuming and the appropriateness of individual progressions is socially accounted for and practiced in task-related references between students – which is associated not only with specific practices, but also with relations of difference between those involved.

    Description: Este livro deriva do poema “Receita de ambrosia”, publicado no livro “Em sobressaltos: formação de professora”. Caracteriza-se como um segundo ato daquele, em duplo sentido: retoma o tema/problema por meio de desdobramento do segundo ato, “O ritual”, e dá continuidade a dois artigos em que tematizo a alfabetização/ensino de língua portuguesa como processo discursivo. O objetivo é problematizar a formação inicial de professores para a compreensão ativa do processo discursivo, considerando que, para ensiná-lo, não basta falar sobre. É necessário também mostrar fazendo nas relações de ensino-aprendizagem de que os futuros professores participam aqui e agora como alunos que se formam para o magistério. Inspiro-me na concepção de “peça didática”, de Bertolt Brecht, com finalidade de “educação estética-política”, por meio da encenação de um “modelo de ação”. A discussão do problema é mostrada em seis cenas que sintetizam momentos “cruciais” das atividades da disciplina Conteúdo, Metodologia e Prática de Ensino: Língua Portuguesa e Literatura Infantil, que ministro no curso de Pedagogia da Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências da Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), câmpus de Marília. O objetivo, entretanto, não é apresentar modelo a ser copiado ou prescrições a serem seguidas. Embora o termo “receita” (etimologicamente, “recebido”) remeta a discurso instrucional, indicando relação de ingredientes e modo de fazer, o modelo de/em ação aqui encenado se caracteriza como roteiro de uma antirreceita, de um antirritual. Porque igualmente afetada e modificada pela condição de participante-observadora do processo encenado, convido-os a compartilhar esta peça didática como materialização de antigo e ambicioso desejo: que também ela configure um processo discursivo a propiciar experiência formativa aos leitores/espectadores assim como sua elaboração proporcionou a esta pesquisadora-narradora-personagem.

Und doch wird Gewalt – zumindest in den westlichen Gesellschaften – als Rätsel oder exotisches Geschehnis wahrgenommen, mit Auswirkungen, die selbst noch in den Sozialwissenschaften zu beobachten sind. Denn die Gewaltforschung tut sich einigermaßen schwer, Gewalt zu erklären, wenn nicht sogar der Versuch der Erklärung dezidiert zurückgewiesen wird. Erklärungen, die jeweils bei den Motiven von Akteuren, bei situativen Interaktionsdynamiken oder gesellschaftlichen Bedingungskonstellationen ansetzen, können allein nicht überzeugen. Die Autoren schlagen vor, an prozessualen Erklärungen von Gewalt zu arbeiten, die den Blick auf die Vorgänge der Verursachung richten, um so der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion um Gewalt einen neuen methodischen Impuls zu geben.

Many of these conflicts are fought not only in politics but also in the courts, as activists attempt to hold corporate and state actors liable for human rights violations. At the same time, they face an increasing criminalization of their protests. Law is thus both an emancipatory tool for activists to access justice and an instrument for political and economic elites to prevent social change. Based on ethnographic field work, Angela Lindt sheds light on various mining disputes in Cajamarca and Piura and examines the role of law in resolving these conflicts.

    Description: Satellite radar altimetry, as one of the basic space measurement techniques intended primarily for solving global geoscientific tasks by means of radar measurements from satellites towards the Earth, has become, primarily due to its accuracy, a key spatial technique for observing the ocean surface as well as many aspects of the land surface. During the last more than three decades, satellite altimetry has revolutionized the geosciences, especially oceanography, geophysics, and geodesy, enabling a much better understanding of the shape of the Earth’s sea level and its changes over time. In this way, it is possible to monitor natural- and human-induced changes in the balance of water masses. For researchers in the field of geosciences, satellite radar altimetry ensures the collection of high-precision global data of uniform accuracy on sea level and therefore is essential for quality unification of vertical height systems, regional and global geoid and gravity, as well as bathymetry modelling, monitoring the impact of sea level rise as well as the vertical movement of the Earth’s crust in coastal areas, ice melting detection, and more, all of which have a significant impact on climate and environmental studies. This book provides an up-to-date overview of the technology itself and some recent developments in using altimeter data to determine sea-level changes and sea-level variability, modelling marine bathymetry from satellite altimeter-derived gravity data, including the related issue of solving terrain corrections for gravity reduction, as well as the possibility of applying artificial intelligence in the monitoring of Earth’s changes.

Efforts at institutional transformation continue to center individual actors.     Description: The Netherlands played a remarkable role during the October War and the oil crisis of 1973. In secret, the Dutch government sent a substantial amount of ammunition and spare parts to Israel. The Dutch supported Israel also politically. Within the EC they vetoed a more pro-Arab policy. The Arab oil producing countries punished The Netherlands by imposing an oil embargo. The embargo against the Netherlands was intimidating. The Netherlands was dependent on Arab oil. The embargo seemed to threaten the Dutch position in the international oil sector. The government introduced several measures to reduce oil consumption. However, within two months it became clear that oil continued to arrive in Rotterdam. There was in fact no oil shortage in the Netherlands. The Netherlands even profited from the oil crisis. The energy situation in The Netherlands was much better than in other West European countries. The Dutch, therefore, rejected French plans for a more interventionist energy policy. Atlanticism and liberalism were the key words of the Dutch policy during the oil crisis. This book is the result of intensive research in all relevant Dutch archives. The authors had free access to all the files they wanted to see. They also used resources from other countries involved. Many politicians were interviewed. The result is a surprising analysis of the oil crisis of 1973, and of the Dutch role in particular. This title is available in the OAPEN Library - http://www.oapen.org.

    Description: In diesem Open-Access-Buch geht der Autor der Frage nach, warum Technik als wesentlicher Bestandteil der Kultur in der Bildung nur eine untergeordnete Bedeutung hat und begründet mit Hilfe technikphilosophischer Analysen einen Kulturreihenansatz für die Auswahl von Inhalten für den Technikunterricht. Aus dem Doppelauftrag von Schule, Persönlichkeitsbildung und Enkulturation wird zunächst ein Interaktionsmodell für Bildung und Erziehung abgeleitet. Das Problem der Inhaltsauswahl jeder Fachdidaktik wird mit einem Modell zur Verknüpfung von Allgemeiner Didaktik und Fachwissenschaften gelöst. Darin wird die Technikphilosophie als fehlende Bezugswissenschaft identifiziert, um Aussagen zum Wesen der Technik zu ermöglichen. Durch die Analyse technikphilosophischer Ansätze wird der Technikbegriff um eine ästhetische und eine Sinn- und Wertperspektive erweitert. Aus diesem Technikbegriff ergeben sich pädagogische Perspektiven für den Technikunterricht, die schließlich über einen Kulturreihenansatz zu einem Kern Technischer Allgemeinbildung führen. Durch den Kulturreihenansatz wird begründet umrissen, wie die kulturelle Bedeutung der Technik bildungswirksam werden kann.
