    Description: The widespread use of microalgae in various fields of human activity including fishery generated a need of highly productive technologies of industrial production of microalgae biomass. In present paper, extreme productivity values of microalgae culturing system were assessed around neighborhoods of the Isfahan City in theory. It will amount to 37.90 g of dry weight (g. d. w.) per 1 m^2 of the illuminated reactor surface under condition that efficiency factor of photobiosynthesis equals to 5%. When photobiosynthetic efficiency is 15%, maximum values of productivity will be 113.71 g. d. w. per 1 m^2. Productivity of microalgae culturing system for its various orientations relative to the Sun at different photobiosynthetic efficiency was calculated on basis of simple model understandings regarding average caloric content of 1 g.d.w. of microalgae and the daily distribution of solar radiation which arrives at the surface of the Earth. If it is drown a curve of the third order (spline) through the points corresponding to days of the vernal (21 March) and autumnal (21 September) equinoxes and a summer solstice (22 June), the extreme (ideal) value of the yield will be 18.5 kg of dry biomass per square meter of illuminated surface (at photobiosynthetic efficiency of 0.15).

    Description: Using SWOT analysis with traditional matrix and quantitative matrix methods, the strategies to benefit from strengths and opportunities to vanishing weaknesses and decrease of threats for strategic management of aquaculture in Iranian Northern provinces was surveyed. Utilizing researches held in fisheries research centers and existence of aquaculture experts in vicinity, activation of veterinary organization in production and post production, and entering new brood stocks with desirable growth are the main strategies for developing rainbow trout and Chinese carps culture in Iranian Northern provinces. In sturgeon fishes culture, independence of farms from fingerlings produced by governmental complex and diversification the cultured fishes using new species and hybrids can develop this part of aquaculture. Avoiding illegal fishing in sea and rivers, preserving the population of Caspian Sea fishes, entering new fish species which their resources are decreased extremely to breeding and fingerling production cycle, and using pike perch and bream while they migrate to Anzali Lagoon from Caspian Sea, instead of freshwater brood stocks will cause the output of sea enhancement and sea ranching activities to increase, and fisheries return coefficient of these fishes will rise. Using quantitative matrix and scoring method, it was defined that aquaculture in Iranian Northern provinces are extremely approved and acceptable and the score of strengths is more than weaknesses and opportunities more than threats. By using strategic management, these activities can be more developed.

    Description: Bycatch from trawlers forms a signifi cant quantity of the total marine fi sh landings along the northwest coast of India, particularly in the state of Gujarat, which contributes about 23 percent of the total marine fi sh landings in the country. This paper discusses the composition of this bycatch, its signifi cance in terms of nutritional value, its present utilization pattern and the scope for improvement.

    Description: The abundances and distributions of coastal pelagic fishspecies in the California Current Ecosystem from San Diego to southern Vancouver Island, were estimated from combined acoustic and trawl surveys conducted in the spring of 2006, 2008, and 2010. Pacific sardine (Sardinops sagax), jack mackerel (Trachurus symmetricus), and Pacific mackerel (Scomber japonicus) were the dominant coastal pelagic fish species, in that order. Northern anchovy (Engraulis mordax) and Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii) were sampled only sporadically and therefore estimates for these species wereunreliable. The estimates of sardine biomass compared well with those of the annual assessments and confirmed a declining trajectory of the “northern stock” since 2006. During the sampling period, the biomass of jack mackerel was stable or increasing, and that of Pacific mackerel waslow and variable. The uncertainties in these estimates are mostly the result of spatial patchiness which increasedfrom sardine to mackerels to anchovy and herring. Future surveys of coastal pelagic fish species in the CaliforniaCurrent Ecosystem should benefit from adaptive sampling based on modeled habitat; increased echosounder and trawl sampling, particularly for the most patchy and nearshore species; and directed-trawl sampling for improved species identification and estimations of their acoustic targetstren

    Description: A summary of the surface and off-surface flow visualization results obtained in flight on the F-18 high alpha research vehicle (HARV) is presented, highlighting the extensive 3-D vortical flow on the aircraft at angles of attack up to 50 degs. The emitted fluid technique, as well as tufts and flow cones, were used to document the surface flow. A smoke generator system injected smoke into the vortex cores generated by the forebody and leading edge extensions (LEXs). Documentation was provided by onboard still and video, by air-to-air, and by postflight photography. The surface flow visualization techniques revealed laminar separation bubbles near the forebody apex, lines of separation on the forebody and LEX, and regions of attached and separated flow on the wings and fins. The off-surface flow visualization techniques showed the path of the vortex cores on the forebody and LEX as well as the LEX vortex core breakdown location. An interaction between the forebody and LEX vortices was noted. The flow over the surfaces of the vertical tail was categorized into regions of attached, unsteady, or separated flow using flow tufts.

    Description: An analytical model for separated airfoil flows is presented which is based on experimentally observed physical phenomena. These include a free stagnation point aft of the airfoil and a standing vortex in the separated region. A computer program is described which iteratively matches the outer potential flow, the airfoil turbulent boundary layer, the separated jet entrainment, mass conservation in the separated bubble, and the rear stagnation pressure. Separation location and pressure are not specified a priori. Results are presented for surface pressure coefficient and compared with experiment for three angles of attack for a GA(W)-1, 17% thick airfoil.

    Description: In studies of multijet rockets, failure to find solutions when using a reasonable mathematical model led to performing airflow tests of supersonic circular jets exhausting into noncircular channels of various sizes. Amomalous base pressure trends and puzzling wall pressure patterns resulted. A flow-into-the-corner test was then devised, using a 90 deg trough behind a back step. A vortex pair, generated by the unsymmetrical squeezing of the shear layer, was found to fill much of the corner and provided an explanation for the peculiar results of the previous tests. No previous reference could be found to this phenomenon. Further experiments of bodies with base fins defined the conditions for creating this trough vortex effect. The trough vortex was used successfully as an igniter/flameholder for combustion of hydrogen in a supersonic stream. Other applications are suggested for base drag reduction, base burning and for providing guidance to avoid errors in half-plane wind tunnel model testing.

    Description: En el presente trabajo se realizó la estandarización de la captura por unidad de esfuerzo (CPUE) de polaca (Micromesistius australis) accesible a la flota surimera que operó en el Océano Atlántico Sudoccidental durante el período 1993-2018. Se aplicaron modelos lineales mixtos (MLM), a partir de la información de la estadística pesquera (MLMEST) y la colectada por los observadores a bordo (MLMOBS) de los buques que componen dicha flota, con el objetivo de comparar los modelos realizados a partir de ambas fuentes de información y el modelo utilizado para la estimación de índices de abundancia de polaca. La aplicación de los MLM mejoró el ajuste con respecto al modelo utilizado hasta la actualidad, sin variar abruptamente la tendencia estimada, lo cual permitiría predecir con mayor exactitud los valores medios de CPUE estandarizados a lo largo de los años. El MLMOBS mostró un mejor ajuste y una mayor variabilidad explicada que el MLMEST. A fin de obtener estimaciones más certeras y, de esta forma poder calibrar adecuadamente los modelos de evaluación de la especie, se recomienda utilizar ambas fuentes de información, teniendo en cuenta el mayor o menor grado de representatividad de los datos.

At the same time the international fishing industry seems intent on exploiting West African waters to a greater and greater extent. Nicolien Zuijdgeest and photographer Bas Beentjes visited the region and found that the sustainability of fisheries is being seriously threatened.
