    Millimeter-Wave Radio-over-Fiber Links based on Mode-Locked Laser Diodes (2021)

    Beschreibung: Radio communications in the range of 60 GHz enable multi-Gigabit/s network access in indoor environments. Due to the propagation characteristics of such signals only very short range radio transmission is feasible. In order to distribute these signals across large distances, analog transmission over optical fiber is considered. In this work, mode-locked laser diodes serve as optoelectronic oscillators for the generation of such signals. Their system-relevant properties are studied in detail.

    Beschreibung: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Plattform zur individuellen Ansteuerung einer Vielzahl thermisch aktivierter Mikroventile und aktoren, auf Grundlage eines Phasenüberganges, zum Einsatz in der Mikrofluidik entwickelt. Ventile dienen dazu den Fluidstrom in komplexen mikrofluidischen Systemen, aus Einsatzgebieten wie der Biologie, Chemie oder Biotechnologie, zu manipulieren. Mit steigender Komplexität der Mikrosysteme steigt auch die Anzahl der benötigten, individuell steuerbaren Mikroventile.

    Beschreibung: The aim of this work was to identify the patterns that can induce heating around implanted cardiac pacemakers during MRI and to develop strategies to counteract them. Two approaches were taken: computer simulations of the occurring electromagnetic field distributions and in-vitro experiments using phantoms in real MRI devices, both for conventional bore-hole and new open MRI systems. Using the open MRI, the observed heating could be reduced significantly.

Die charakteristischen Schwingungseigenschaften, bedingt durch das usammenwirken von Spiel, auskragender Last und Schwerkraft, werden experimentell untersucht und durch ein 5-Massen-Modell sehr gut abgebildet.Sowohl mit aktiven als auch mit passiven Maßnahmen lassen sich die Schwingungen schnell und deutlich reduzieren.

Durch die Einhaltung von Mindestabständen und Mindestholzdicken soll hierbei ein Versagen des Holzes durch Aufspalten verhindert werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein Verfahren entwickelt, mit dem sich die Anforderungen an Abständen und Holzdicken effizienter und zuverlässiger als bisher bestimmen lassen.

    Beschreibung: Fracture of storage particles is considered to be one of the major reasons for capacity fade and increasing power loss in Li-ion batteries. In this work, we tackle the problem by merging a coupled model of mechanical stress and diffusion of Li-ions with a phase field description of an evolving crack. The novel approach allows us to study the evolution of the Li concentration together with the initiation and growth of a crack in an arbitrary geometry and without presuming a specific crack path.

    Beschreibung: Within the bioliq®-process, the organic phase of straw pyrolysis condensates can be gasified directly, while the aqueous phase can be mixed with char to form a slurry, which also can be gasified. For production and storage, several mixers and stirrers are examined. Grinding the porous and elongated char particles decelerates sedimentation and also reduces the viscosity. Thus, higher concentrated slurries can be mixed, which leads to higher stability.

Due to the highly dynamic oscillatory motion, the stiffness requirements to the tool structure and the basic machine have to be considered, which is the main purpose of this work. Based on these results, a concept of a mechanical adaption of the oscillating disc cutting process to an excavator attachment tool will be developed and tested on a prototype.

    Beschreibung: ECG recordings provide diagnostic relevant information on the de- and repolarisation sequences of the heart. A modification of the repolarisation sequence is assumed to cause Torsades de Pointes. Especially drug induced effects on the repolarisation processes are in focus, since some non-cardiac drugs have been associated with sudden cardiac death in the 1990s. The analysis of the ventricular repolarisation using a set of parameters depicting the morphology of the T-wave is introduced in this work. Therefore, new methods of fully automatic patient-specific QRS detection, beat classification and precise T-wave delineation are presented. Using these methods, medical studies are investigated regarding the modification of the T-wave by different compounds. Also the impact of the heart rate on the morphology of the T-wave is part of this research.The reliable identification of ventricular ectopic beats allows an analysis of the influence of these beats on subsequent heart beats. It turned out that the morphology of subsequent heart beats can significantly be changed. This might give new information on the proarrythmical risk of ventricular ectopic beats.

By application of nanoscaled thin films, the exceptionally high efficiency allows the realization of mobile SOFCs.

    Beschreibung: Ein Riss im Rotor ruft eine lokale Steifigkeitsänderung hervor. Die vorliegende Arbeit ermittelt die Steifigkeitsänderung einer angerissenen Welle. Dazu wird ein Kohäsivzonenmodell eingesetzt. Das Modell wurde für die erste Rissöffnungsmode bei ebenem Verzerrungszustand in Abhängigkeit der Mehrachsigkeit des Spannungszustandes (Triaxialität) entwickelt. Außerdemwird das Kohäsivzonenmodell bei einem eindimensionalen Kontinuumsrotor als FE Modell ausgeführt.

    Beschreibung: Techniques based on numerical simulations have been applied to the analysis of the heat exchanger and the High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) module of HTS current leads. In the first case correlations have been derived for the meander flow geometry. In the second case steady state and transient thermal-electric models have been validated. Both techniques are used to design and optimize HTS current leads. The correlations were applied to a predictive analysis of the ITER HTS current leads.

Vier verschiedene Herstellungsverfahren wurden erprobt mit dem Ziel gradierten Wolfram/Stahl-Zwischenschichten zu realisieren. Nach erfolgreicher Produktion und Charakterisierung wurden die gradierten Schichten mit Stahl- bzw. Wolframvollmaterial mittels Diffusionsschweißen gefügt.

The application limits regarding the applicability on film systems and the influence of the system's built up is examined by finite element simulations. A new evaluation method for the hole drilling method is proposed. Using this method residual stress states in thick film systems can be determined reliably in the coating, at the interface and also in the substrate.

    Beschreibung: To estimate the reachable specific energy and power of aqueous Li-air batteries, a physical based model was developed, which for the first time includes the microstructure of Li-air cells. Parameters like solid/liquid interface resistances were quantified with help of a newly developed setup. Simulations based on the developed model revealed that even conservative estimations promise an increase in the specific energy by at least a factor of two compared to present Li-ion batteries.

    Beschreibung: The work describes a method for the determination of the conversion by radical photopolymerization of acrylic coatings that is suitable for an in situ monitoring during the coating process.The applied method is based on the 1620 nm overtone absorption of the acrylate end group. The capability of the sensor to discriminate between polymerized and unpolymerized coatings on metal substrates down to a coating thickness of less than 16µm is demonstrated and and proved by reference measurements.

    Beschreibung: Environment perception with cameras is an important requirement for many applications for autonomous vehicles and robots. This work presents a stereoscopic omnidirectional camera system for autonomous vehicles which resolves the problem of a limited field of view and provides a 360° panoramic view of the environment. We present a new projection model for these cameras and show that the camera setup overcomes major drawbacks of traditional perspective cameras in many applications.

The aim of this work was to optimize the fabrication process of hot-electron bolometers and gain a deeper understanding of the underlying processes. To achieve this, the fabrication of the superconducting thin films was optimized and the superconducting properties of the films were analyzed. Detectors fabricated using the results showed a record value for the noise temperature.

The two layers are separated by a porous membrane with an endothelial monolayer on top of the membrane to mimic the blood vessel wall. To extend the measuring capabilities of our microfluidic chip, gold electrodes were structured on the membrane using optical lithography and chemical etching.

    Beschreibung: Zahlreiche Anwendungen erfordern das Lokalisieren der Emissionsquelle bestimmter Luftbeimengungen. Beispiele hierfür sind die Leckageer-kennung in Gefahrenstofflagern und die Luftqualitätsüberwachung von Deponien. Die Grundlage einer solchen Quellenlokalisierung stellen räumlich verteilte Online-Konzentrationsmessungen dar, die beispiels-weise durch so genannte Elektronische Nasen ermöglicht werden.In dem vorliegenden Buch werden ausgehend von einem geometrischen Zugang neue, zweistufige Verfahren zur Quellenlokalisierung für die Ausbreitung durch turbulente Diffusion und Advektion vorgestellt.Grundidee des geometrischen Zugangs ist es, zunächst für jeden Sensor die Menge aller Punkte zu bestimmen, auf der sich aus der Sicht des einzelnen Sensors die Quelle befinden kann. Durch Bilden der Schnittmenge für mehrere Sensoren lässt sich dann daraus der Quellort ermitteln. Die entwickelten Verfahren umgehen die numerischen Schwierigkeiten der klassischen ausgangsfehlerbasierten einstufigen Verfahren (Maximum-likelihood-Schätzung) und liefern zudem Aussagen zur Existenz und Eindeutigkeit von Lösungen, zur Lage von Mehrfachlösungen sowie zur geeigneten Platzierung der Sensoren für die Quellenlokalisierung.Zahlreiche Simulationen und Experimente in einem industriellen Chemikalienlager belegen die Leistungsfähigkeit der neuen Verfahren.

Also, bio-chemical ligand patterns comprising 256 different ligand densities have been created in a few seconds on a 5 mm² substrate with pixel sizes of a few µm.

    Beschreibung: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde der Einsatz von Holzfaserdämmplatten als tragende Beplankung von aussteifenden Holztafeln untersucht. Auf der Grundlage von Versuchen werden die tragfähigkeitsrelevanten Parameter angegeben, die für die Abschätzung der Tragfähigkeit und die Bemessung notwendig sind. Es werden Modelle zur Berechnung der Tragfähigkeit von Holz-HFDP-Verbindungen vorgeschlagen. In Versuchen wurden die Tragfähigkeit und Steifigkeit von bauteilgroßen Wand- und Dachscheiben bestimmt.

Das Modell liefert einen Ansatzpunkt zur systemspezifischen Auslegung von Texturierungen als Konstruktionsdetail in ölgeschmierten Friktionssystemen.

    Beschreibung: In this book we successfully demonstrate a millimeter-precision laser rangefinder using a low-cost photon counter. An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) comprises timing circuitry and single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) as the photodetectors. For the timing circuitry, a novel binning architecture for sampling the received signal is proposed which mitigates non-idealities that are inherent to a system with SPADs and timing circuitry in one chip.

    Beschreibung: Nanostructured metals with maximal grain or twin sizes of less than 100 nm have advanced properties like increased strength.As beneficial as these microstructures can be for the strength of materials, they are not infinitely stable. During mechanical loading these metals tend to coarsen and lose their beneficial structure. Besides electron microscopic analysis of fatigued samples, in situ cycling tests were conducted in order to observe structural degradation during mechanical loading.

    Beschreibung: In this book a novel optical switch is designed, developed, and tested. The switch integrates optical switching, transparent traffic aggregation/grooming, and optical regener-ation. Innovative switch subsystems are developed that enable these functionalities, including all-optical OTDM-to-WDM converters. High capacity ring interconnection between metro-core rings, carrying 130 Gbit/s OTDM traffic, and metro-access rings carring 43 Gbit/s WDM traffic is experimentally demonstrated. The developed switch features flexibility in bandwidth provisioning, scalability to higher traffic volumes, and backward compatibility with existing network implementations in a future-proof way.

    Beschreibung: Neuartige Antriebsprinzipien wie flexible Fluidaktoren erlauben die Entwicklung leichter und vielgliedriger anthropomorpher Hände, deren Größe dem menschlichen Vorbild sehr nahe kommt. Sie schließen die Lücke zwischen Greifern mit eingeschränkter Beweglichkeit und sehr aufwändigen Roboterhänden für die Teleoperation. Ihre Einsatzgebiete sind sowohl Handprothesen als auch humanoide Serviceroboter.Dieses Buch trägt zur Entwicklung von Sensoren für solche Hände bei und zeigt ihre Anwendung am Beispiel von Regelungs- und Greifverfahren. Zusammengestellt werden die Aufgaben, Fähigkeiten und Anforderungen in Anlehnung an die Physiologie und Tätigkeiten der menschlichen Hand. Aus der Analyse und Modellierung des Aktorverhaltens werden weitere Randbedingungen für ein Sensorsystem hergeleitet. Nach der Darstellung der bereits in künstlichen Händen eingesetzten Messverfahren erfolgt die Auswahl, Auslegung und Optimierung von Winkelsensoren, taktilen Kraftsensoren und Sensoren zur Messung des Aktordrucks.Zur Übertragung der Sensorsignale an eine Steuerungseinheit werden unterschiedliche Leitungsmaterialien und Verkabelungsstrukturen bewertet.Die Nutzung der Sensoren wird an Hand verschiedener Regelungsvarianten für einzelne und mehrere Gelenke im pneumatischen und hydraulischen Betrieb demonstriert.Abschließend werden die Funktionen einer Greifsteuerung als Schnittstelle zwischen der Gelenkregelung und einer übergeordneten Robotersteuerung diskutiert.

    Beschreibung: In this book, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) are studied with a view to linear and nonlinear applications in next-generation optical networks. Quantum-dot SOAs can be optimized for linear amplification of signals with different modulation formats and multiplexing techniques. Conversely, bulk SOAs can be easily optimized for operation in the nonlinear regime. However, due to the fast carrier recovery times in QD SOAs we also look into nonlinear applications with these devices.

    Beschreibung: The deep drawing of an aluminum alloy used in the packaging industry for the beverage can manufacturing process is investigated. In this work, the effective constitutive behavior is based on a crystal plasticity model in combination with a non-linear Hashin-Shtrikman type homogenization scheme in which a reference stiffness controls the stress and strain fluctuations. The simulation results are compared to experiments in terms of deep drawing earing profiles, texture evolution, and localization.
