    Description: Nowadays poverty can be defined as a construct that can no longer be ascribed to the material scarcity of resources but to the lack of all available relational, social and cultural resources, that are an expression of a “suffering” territory. This fragility testifies to a problem of educational sustainability that requires an exit from the emergency logic of “buffer interventions” by activating social, training and professional networks, capable of responding to the educational needs expressed by the territory. For this reason, in the epistemic framework of Civil and Digital-Civil Pedagogy, the need emerges for new professional profiles capable of being “managers” of integrated territorial development, educators-planners of territorial educational services with a view to social sustainability and the educational human transition.

    Description: Within the context of a reflection on learning from a lifelong and lifewide perspective, this paper intends to highlight the pedagogical need to focus on the individual and her or his resources as a prerequisite for starting and maintaining a fruitful “learning career”. For this purpose, the construct of “learning identity” is explored in depth. Within the field of the “technologies of the self” it has been possibile to identify dedicated strategies and tools that can support the growth and evolution of this form of adult identity in support of a leaning that can nourish the different stages of life.

    Description: The paper resumes the outcomes of the literature review conducted from the general theme regarding the city as an educational context and subject in the twenty-first century and presents a summary of the research design undertaken. The aim is to investigate the city as a ‘learning city’ where educational and training processes can become engines of regeneration. It is also intended to survey some examples of generative transformations traceable to the development trajectories drawn by Agenda 2030 that emerge in the learning city model, in order to understand their impact on the communities involved, the policies and the professional figures required to govern the processes.

    Description: The evolution of the complex school system, from its origins to school autonomy, explains the reason for the connotation of complexity, which it has acquired over time. The school as organization and as institution therefore is a complex system where leaders and managers become a single person, identified in the School Manager who acts on the basis of continuous improvement. The characteristic features of the managerial function and of the school institution become: governance, leadership, manager, research, communication, organizational culture, and empowerment. The organizational culture understood as sharing assumptions, meanings, values and behaviors, becomes a useful means to achieve the institutional mandate, that is, to ensure student educational success.

    Description: The text highlights the lines of the research crossed by Paolo Federighi in his forty-year professional career within the University of Florence and the European institutions. We take the opportunity of this perusal to problematize the discipline, Adult Education, through a semantic and lexicographic analysis which aims to bring to light the history and theory of Adult Education from its beginnings in Italian society and culture in the period after the Second World War to date. The pedagogical-educational knowledge forming the building blocks of the discipline cannot be separated from scientific research and methodological results. The second part of the essay sets out to understand which research methodology can be more appropriate to respond to the needs of a constantly evolving and rapidly changing civil society. The third and fourth parts reflect on a human and scientific itinerary always pointed towards the lodestar of educational innovation and educational transformation.

    Description: Understanding the intersection between marine nature and culture is a basis for sustainable coastal development. In this frame the Carloforte tonnara, one of the last fixed Thunnus thynnus trap in the Mediterranean, represent a significant case study. Since until about thirty years ago the life of local community was closely linked to the fishing activities, but the evolution of the fish market at a global scale has radically interrupted it. In 2021 the author of this contribution created Tunèa1, an arts-based research in action project, aimed to re-create the lost relationship in new forms.

    Description: Restructuring personal and vocational training by means of the harbinger of a not merely economistic idea of employability represents a fundamental and ineradicable task of educational research and pedagogical reflection. The most obvious effect of such a re-understanding of employability in its function as a pedagogical principle and catalyst of formation, because of its dimension of connaturality with the subjective educational trajectory, is that of reinterpreting transition processes not from a discontinuous perspective, but from a process perspective. Hence the need to think and rethink ordinal architectures and understand the training process according to a logic of continuity and chain in which each individual educational and didactic proposal converges and makes the principle of employability transparent in a generative and transformative way.

    Description: The subject-text and author-reader relationship are investigated with particular attention to the current proliferation of narrative languages and methodologies, including digital ones. It reflects on the pedagogical and social value of an education that educates young people's active and conscious participation in the dynamics of contemporary society. The chapter adopts as a case study the modes of communication, including narrative, developed during the last two years deeply marked by the Covid19 pandemic. The function of processing insecurity, individual and collective, and reshaping behaviors of the different narrative forms are highlighted.

    Description: According to the Maastricht Treaty, the responsibility for the organisation and content of education and training systems lies with the Member States. However, the Community contributes to the development of quality education and the European dimension of teaching by encouraging cooperation between Member States. Europeanisation of national education systems in the European Union is both the effect of a top-down political process, with different levels of governance, and the result of a bottom-up movement. The main agents are the teachers themselves: European mobility, both physical and virtual, improves their professional practice and helps to develop their sense of belonging to a European teaching and learning community. Despite the central role played by teachers in the integration of national education systems into the European Education Area, the profile and the key competencies of the ‘European teacher’ have not been defined in European Union policy documents.

    Description: The recent Recommendations of the Ministers of the European Higher Education Area (BFUG, 2020) have highlighted how the qualification processes of university teaching are closely related to didactic approaches student’s-centered. To facilitate change actions, institutions identify mediation figures within the university with the function of managing Faculty Development actions and programs. The chapter outlines the role of the faculty developer and considers him an educational "agent of change". Faculty developers can create a network for the professional and organizational development of a university, favoring the construction of communities of practice and multi-transdisciplinary connections.

    Description: Several associations in Italy are involved in pediatric disease and support for children and adolescents in conditions of medical complexity, with Tuscany boasting a territory particularly committed to social issues. This study aims to understand if currently in Tuscany there are associations engaged in promoting the sense of school belonging of the student with pathology. In order to achieve this objective, Tuscan associations have been mapped using five different mapping methods. Only one association was found through this mapping. The psychologist at the association was interviewed to understand the point of view of the association on this topic.

    Description: Adulthood, once defined as a goal, today, has increasingly blurred outlines. While many speak of "adultescenza" (adult-adolescent) to describe the situation of those who interpret their adulthood in adolescent terms, today, we have, in one way, less certainty, in another way, more possibilities. For example, social sciences assign adolescents the task of choosing, where reality confirms that the choices taken in adolescence are not "for life," but circumstantial. Adolescents, rather, discover; adults rediscover. Thus, in adulthood, a detachment from the family of origin can take place which in adolescence was thought inconceivable: freedom, autonomy and responsibility can finally be considered adult goals, because the family of origin sometimes still has to-be-thought-of.

    Description: In view of the increasing number of social enterprises in recent years, the European Commission (2020) has undertaken a mapping study (2014-2020) of social ecosystems in order to understand their evolution, activities, and professional profiles. In Italy, workers in social enterprises account for 53% (ISTAT 2020) of the majority of which consist of/include workers in the social and care services. It is specifically within these services that the «value of knowledge and skills that are not only specifically technical-professional but also strategic and transversal, cognitive and metacognitive, reflective» (Epifani 2003, 23) is becoming increasingly important, in line with the current indications of the European Skills Agenda (European Commission 2021). This phenomenon concerns even more particularly the intermediate functions, i.e. those support positions, which in part hold management and coordination functions (Abhervé and Dubois 2009). In light of this framework, this study investigates the figure of the personal services coordinator, i.e. a second-level professional who, working both in the educational and in the managerial, combines his actions between very different areas of competence.

    Description: Nowadays, scientific literacy is a key aspect for active citizenship and for making informed decisions regarding scientific issues of everyday life. However, the PISA 2018 data highlight the low scientific competence of the upper secondary school students, underlining the need to foster STEM teaching. In particular, the use of the so-called X-Reality for acquiring scientific skills and to increase interest in the discipline seem promising. During the first year of my PhD, I carried out a scoping review on STEM teaching with X-Reality in the context of secondary school. The main purpose was to draw a state-of-the-art regarding X-Reality use, focusing on potential, critical aspects and challenges. After the search and selection process, 10 articles were included in the analysis. The results showed the effectiveness of X-Reality in promoting the achievement of learning objectives, the interest in the discipline and the long-term retention of knowledge. These results will be the starting point for setting up the empirical part of the PhD project.

Through a historical perspective, we want to highlight the educational aspects of practical and conceptual activity in practical and operational contexts, especially in agriculture, a tradition inaugurated by Ridolfi and continued by Lambruschini, which initiated a true Tuscan school of innovation in the formal learning setting of education and training that has become a European model.

    Description: Learning devices can be embedded into organizational contexts. Through them learning processes can be intentionally activated as to transform employees while working. Workplaces have their own learning potential due to their high level of structuring and regulation. Their learning potential transform organizational actors while they are in the productive actions. Identifying embedded learning processes helps in intercepting learning valencies of workplace experiences and observing learning actions that can lead to transformative processes. Results of related research activities are presented in the volume. They have been carried out in more than ten years of research implemented in three types of organisations: business, museum, prison. Research experiences are analysed by using a model of study that is based on the reconstruction of the learning processes as they are experienced by the actors considered. Moreover the model is based on the analysis of learning actions that are embedded into the productive and service provision processes. Factors and conditions are analysed as well through which organisations can act on employees transformation.

    Description: The topic of embedded literacy, closely connected to embedded learning on one hand, and training in the workplace on the other, is a central theme for reflection on adult education in Europe and around the world. The Council of Europe indicates knowledge as a pivotal element for the economic and social development of the EU countries and the workplace is an important place for the learning and production of know-how and knowledge. The problem of achieving the competences needed for entering the current labour market concerns a large part of the adult population. And this is where embedded literacy comes in, a topic which the volume tries to deal with from a twofold viewpoint: through theoretical reflection outlining the theme against the development of the European labour market, and reflection on hands-on experiences resulting from a project financed by the European Community called CELiNE, Content Embedded Literacy Education for the New Economy, carried out between 2007-2009.

    Description: The keynote of the recent history of the faculty of educational science of Florence University is change. This has emerged in response to the demands for education expressed by a new knowledge society, spawned by the processes of globalisation, and the social need to foster interculturalism and the dialogue between diversities. In this new dimension of change, education becomes the framework for preparation, but also for re-integrating and updating life itineraries that are swift and precarious, veined with insecurity and disillusionment. Even in the new approach, the scientific and cultural benchmark continues to be a consistent adherence to the secular, historic-pedagogic and educational tradition represented by the masters of the "Florence School". Since its creation in 1996, the new faculty has staked forcefully on the centrality of training in relation to the traditional focus on the professionalism of primary and secondary school teachers, and on the new extra-scholastic training issues: the educational professions; pedagogic care; the social education of adults; the technologies of education and instruction; the philosophic, sociological, psychological and anthropological dimension of education; the broad sphere of hardship and marginalisation and the different faces of diversity.

The wealth and variety of concrete experiences offered by regional policies show how it is possible to activate public ations that, having adequate ingredients, will be able to lessen the negative effects of the economic crisis and allow young people to take one step ahead at any time in their private and professional life.

    Description: In the period following the Second World War Giulio Preti was one of the leading exponents of Italian philosophy. A master of open critical thought, cultivated in the light of a rationalism that dialogued with, and integrated into his own philosophical model, many of the currents and stances of the global research scenario. Phenomenology, Marxism, pragmatism, neopositivism, transcendentalism and structuralism: in Preti all of these found an organic and original synthesis. Further, his particular brand of rationalist-critical thought touched on many aspects of philosophical knowledge: theoretical philosophy, the philosophy of science, that of language and that of art, from ethics to politics and even taking in the history of philosophy, offering authoritative contributions in every sphere. One hundred years after his birth, the University of Florence and the heir to the Faculty in which he lectured at length, the Faculty of Education, has decided to honour his memory with this anthology of studies, penned by former pupils and others and also by younger scholars, to once again focus the wealth of this thought and its, in many respects, current relevance. Even now, this particular brand of open, critical rationalism can offer a benchmark for addressing the new issues for philosophical reflection thrown up by modern society and culture.

    Description: Over the last years, the interest in teachers’ digital competence has become the object of increasing attention. The progressive digitalization of our societies led the European legislator, in 2006, to reformulate the framework of key competences, introducing digital competence among the new knowledge that school has to promote. Of course, both future and in-service teachers need to be prepared to favour students’ digital skills. This brought the European Commission to release in 2017 the DigCompEdu framework. The case study describes the design of 360° video storyboards and the creation of the video by the use of 360° cameras for reproducing a sensory laboratory environment. Video enrichment with Vivista, an educational software allowing lecturers to embed interaction points (e.g. quizzes, texts, images) within the 360° videos is also described. Different immersive modalities for the use of the videos with students in different contexts are described and discussed.     Description: In August 2021, a questionnaire was sent to all those who had participated in the presentation meetings of the Integrated Digital Direct Internship Experimental Project (TDDI), a questionnaire to identify the objectives achieved. The survey was sent to 99 schools, 238 subjects including teachers, trainees and headteachers and to 18 university tutors of the Course of Studies in Primary Education at the University of Florence. The survey obtained 186 responses and allowed an initial evaluation of the results in relation to the target actually involved and informed of the experimental path. The focus is to detect the level of satisfaction of the subjects actually involved and to highlight how much TDDI can meet the expectations of school managers, teachers, students.

    Description: The Integrated Direct Digital Internship (TDDI) represented a new and important method of internship of an experimental nature (in collaboration with the Regional School Office for Tuscany) which had as its primary objective to guarantee all students the opportunity to live this fundamental pre-professional experience. The project, born almost by chance to support the condition of professional fragility caused by the pandemic, has favored the search for a new model which, through the integration of virtual methods, has expanded and enriched the training opportunities for future teachers by implementing courses unpublished. From the point of view of educational and scientific research, it was a question of experimenting, evaluating and developing differentiated professional learning practices through the comparison between innovative tools and traditional tools in order to achieve a reasoned integration.

    Description: Practical traineeship has reached a stage of high juridical and scientific recognition in the initial training courses to become preschool and primary school teachers, but also in the field of methodological and didactic studies. Indeed, since its introduction in the university pathway, at the same time as the birth of degree courses in Science of Primary Education in the nineties of the twentieth century and in the wake of what is provided by the Delegated Decrees, practical traineeship activities have reached a very mature degree of definition. To talk about direct digital integrated practical traineeship (TDDI) means to insert the discourse in the evolutionary line just mentioned. However, in this contribution I will focus only on some steps that I think are useful to reflect on the TDDI experience.

    Description: The enforcement of the sentence in a (re)educational perspective is a highly debated topic in different approaches, including the multidisciplinary ones. In this volume, the topic is discussed from a compensatory perspective, namely through the acknowledgement of the need to prepare educational tools to contrast the 'adverse educational actions', to which the prison population may be exposed, and to the phenomenon of repeated infractions. In addition to the elements of the treatment program (which is structured, intentional, legally regulated and procedure-like), every phase of the sentence enforcement, even those taken for granted, includes an educational value and presents itself as a growth and improvement opportunity for each prisoner. As evidence to the variety of experiences (in the educational sense), this volume collects a series of contributions by professionals from the criminal justice system who support the changing processes of prisoners.

    Description: This chapter focuses on the perception of the students about the video 360° and their didactic value in the academic teaching. The results of an online survey, administered to more than 200 students in three European countries who followed an academic course where a video 360° was used, are then presented and discussed highlighting how, despite the relative novelty of this tool for academic teaching, the results seem quite promising for their further adoption in the Higher Education.

    Description: The birth and development of disciplines, as organized knowledge that guides the interpretation of reality, are inscribed in the heritage of the knowledge of our species. These follow the triple regulating principles of the historical flux of the meanings of feeling and thinking: cognitive potential, mental processing, intangible and tangible products. The flow from the indistinct feeling of the origins evolves through the archaic forms of the magic thought; to the ancient forms of declarative thought up to the modern forms of demonstrative thought. The latter with the separation between disciplines does not recognize the interconnection inherent in reality, loses the scientific revolution character and generates the unsustainable human development on the planet. From the global interconnection experience of the contemporary world, a new paradigm comes to life: transdisciplinarity, whose epistemology recomposes the knowledge and reality’s unity and diversity beyond the barriers between disciplines.

    Description: In Italy, women have been able to graduate only since 1875; in Florence, at the end of the century, just fifteen women obtained the graduation at the Institute of Higher Studies. The Libraries of the University of Florence, heirs to the Institute, have intended to celebrate those first female graduates (1875-1940) and their stories, by cataloguing, digitalizing and publishing online their thesis. The oldest or most significant ones, with archival materials, photos and publications, have been exhibited at the Humanities Library. This volume illustrates the exposition and the outcome of this original documentation, thus allowing to define the peculiarities of the Florentine reality, offering the opportunity for further studies and giving visibility to women who have played a substantial role in the Italian culture, so as to not lose their memory.

    Description: This volume shows the outcome of a series of meetings and seminars which, on several levels, contributed to the construction of the International Conference La ricerca sull’Educazione in età Adulta nelle università italiane held at the University of Florence on the 23rd and 24th November 2017. The different contributions have tried to answer the question on the origin and development of adult education in Italy within academic contexts. What does it mean to work in this research field? The interviewed directors have reflected on a number of research approaches and have reconstructed the variety of theories, models and authors which outlined the development of this discipline in Italy over the last fifty years. Among the covered topics are: increasing the educational quality of the workplace, understanding the education incorporated in the workplace, studying the aims of education in formal and informal contexts. This has led to a new and original theme, which had however not been touched by the Italian academic literature, namely the question of inequalities and relative poverty, two important phenomena for understanding the development of future societies.

    Description: Prison education should be a top priority issue in most societies. Prison conditions must not infringe human rights and dignity and must offer meaningful treatment programmes in order to support inmates in their rehabilitation and reintegration in society. The use of ICTs within a penitentiary context plays a crucial role in that. The present Volume looks at the learning potential in prisons and reports on innovative (e-)learning pathways for basic skills education as designed and tested in Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Romania. Research investigated on what counts as ‘educational’ in such a complex context and how to combine relevant pieces in a ‘learning mosaic’ (the broad range of any learning opportunity across it). This Volume argues that such an approach may be adopted in a wider European perspective within the frame of dynamic security.

    Description: The paper aims at dealing with didactics of Resistance through the relationship between the historical wtnesses and younger generations. As the first has lived the historical events he is going to narrate, younger generations constitute ideally the depositary of a rich and fragile set of informations. Based from this perspective, the paper is going to speak about a students' cycle of meetings organised in some schools in the province of Pistoia, between 2016 and 2018: the vocational institute "Martini" and the technical institute "Marchi". Meetings were held by SIlvano Sarti, who fought as partisan in the "Brigata Sinigaglia" in 1944 and who was appointed ANPI provincial president in Florence.

    Description: The topics of work flexibility, precarious jobs, and the relationship between work, the market and production are subjects that are widely debated in the sociological, philosophical, economic and political spheres. Yet these topics are less touched on in the tradition of pedagogical research. The intention of this book is to build a seedbed for reflection on the central position assumed by work in the lives of every woman and man, inhabitants of a planet in which the transformation of work activities is imposing radical changes on lifestyles, community-building and societies. Work is not an abstract concept, but is incorporated into every human person who does it and into the relationships linking them to others. Man, his education and human formation provide the pivot around which to perform a pedagogical survey within the universe of "work", and inside the relationship between the human condition and working/professional life. What sense does work acquire today when going to observe children, young people, adults or migrants? Namely, what sense does it assume when its pivotal viewpoint is shifted off-centre in time and space? The essays intend to spark agile but critical, synchronic and diachronic reflection which, stemming from contextual questions on the meaning of work and on change in the workplace, will proceed to investigate the subjects in their specific lives and existential conditions.     Description: Seven European Regional Governments, together with Earlall and universities and research centres, have undertaken to refine a first draft of a Joint Progress Report of Regions on Implementation of European Lifelong Learning Strategies in the perspective of the Europe 2020 Strategy. The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate the usefulness and need to make an instrument available to European Regional Governments that helps to understand and evaluate the educational conditions of the regional population when compared with other regions. The Report shows how, over the decade, all the Regional Governments have undertaken to adapt training systems to the demographic dynamics characterised by the general ageing of the population and by migratory phenomena. Simultaneously the Report also shows the need for urgent improvements in some fields where the impact of policies is still too modest and where the risk of stagnation must be dealt with (for example, lifelong learning policies and NEET reduction).

    Description: Cartoline is a didactic method practised by the studies center "Yad Vashem". Starting from the observation and the study of an image, pupils and teachers think about it invlving themselves in a dynamic lesson stimulated by some guided-questions the teacher made. The teachers asked students to create a circle where some images are putted into. Students are asked to choose one of them and to write a words the image suggest them. The image is not contextualized and it shows daily item as a glass of milk or common action as petting an animal. Only afterward the teacher is going to contextualize the image: the glass of milk rapresent the amount of calories (184) assumed by prisoners in concentration camp. A discussion with students is launched.

    Description: The fundamental principles of freedom, security, democracy, and the regulatory mechanisms of the European Union, as well as the pronouncements of the European Convention for the protection of Human Rights and fundamental freedoms (ECHR) can be subject to dangerous violations within criminal justice systems. When these violations are perpetrated by the actors called to protect the same rights and freedoms, the institutions must also prepare the educational devices which are required for their prevention. This volume intends to investigate the complexity of educational actions - primarily informal ones - which accompany the creation of the operators’ knowledge of the analysed systems, as well as the methods of their growth. The contents are discussed starting from the research hypotheses, and on the basis of the experimentation of the embedded learning in the prison of Chieti (under the supervision of the Department of Education and Psychology of the University of Florence).

    Description: The volume is a collection of the papers from a study seminar held at the University of Florence Faculty of Education and Training Sciences in March 2012 entitled Formazione e orientamento al lavoro. Le sfide della disabilità adulta. The aim of the initiative was to highlight a topic/problem which has little or no resonance in civil society, or in study and research contexts, namely, training and career guidance for disabled adults. The volume also recounts a course of studies carried out by Le Rose, a cooperative from the municipality of Florence, involving empirical research on the relationship between disability and job placement. As well as proposing an interdisciplinary and multifaceted reflection on a definitely innovative topic, the intention is to emphasize the central place of work in the lives of all people and the role that suitable education and training plays in constructing the adult identity. Care for the place where the job training is carried out, as well as attention to the relationships and actions pursued by the workers undertaking to develop job placement programmes, are central dimensions for the construction of a renewed culture of inclusion, citizenship and social and personal recognition.

    Description: The idea behind this book – devoted to the relations between adults and children – emerged within a specific educational experience launched in an experimental manner in 2006 by the faculty of educational science of Florence University and now in its fourth edition. These are teaching courses held in the evening and on Saturdays to make it easier for students with daytime jobs to attend the lessons. The quest for new forms of organisation was accompanied by a meditation on teaching, which brought out several very interesting educational themes which were effectively transversal to the various disciplines. This book presents the results of this methodological approach, aimed at fostering a conscious, reflective and personal learning. As the title suggests, the essays are designed to focus the question of the educational relationship within a multidisciplinary perspective. Us-them, to remind ourselves that adults have a fundamental and inescapable responsibility. The relationship is typically asymmetrical, with special features and decidedly variable over time. It has in fact been marked for centuries by a failure to recognise the needs of the youngsters and their own subjectivity, to the point of arriving at disturbing levels of violence and coercion. Such cases have been justly referred to a 'black pedagogy', which sadly is far from being everywhere a thing of the past, and even in Italy has left deep and persistent traces. For these reasons the study of the educational relationship has numerous relevant aspects of interest, all extremely topical, and represents a fundamental argument that adults must consciously address. Educators and teachers, parents and students, can all thus enhance their sensitivity and competence with a view to consolidating the reflective practices that are now considered absolutely indispensable for those who live in contact with children and adolescents.

    Description: Since the mid 20th century, the criticism of mass culture has been marked by the "apocalyptic" positions of many authors. Through the texts and ideas of three these "apocalyptic" authors (or, at least, of three authors defined as such: Adorno, Pasolini and Baudrillard), but also through the most current criticisms of ICT, the text suggests to re-read the apocalyptic authors. At the same time, it highlights the limits of information and communication technologies and their partial outdatedness, while also trying to draw inspiration from them in order to develop a model of media education which may keep alive the dialectical charge between the possibilities offered by technology and the pitfalls it sometimes hides. The apocalyptic authors, in fact, can support the need for a semiological, critical-sociological and pedagogical work, which considers the media as a problem, and creates and gives the subjects the analysis, interpretation and (critical) use skills of the media themselves. The aim is to create a form of literacy with respect to old and new "languages of knowledge", but above all with respect to the formation of critical and thoughtful, free and creative "well-made heads".

Simultaneously the Report also shows the need for urgent improvements in some fields where the impact of policies is still too modest and where the risk of stagnation must be dealt with (for example, lifelong learning policies and NEET reduction).

    Description: In Europe the social economy employs almost 15 million workers. During the crisis years, unlike other sectors, it has often generated an increase in jobs. The aim of this comparative study is to investigate how to allow the supply and demand for young people to meet in the different types of social economy bodies. In particular, it concentrates on the problem of how to bring into line initial university training and the skills required by these organizations. The focus is placed on the varied family of training workers present in at least 75% of the organizations, whose professionalism is nevertheless rarely acknowledged.     Description: The idea behind this book – devoted to the relations between adults and children – emerged within a specific educational experience launched in an experimental manner in 2006 by the faculty of educational science of Florence University and now in its fourth edition. These are teaching courses held in the evening and on Saturdays to make it easier for students with daytime jobs to attend the lessons. The quest for new forms of organisation was accompanied by a meditation on teaching, which brought out several very interesting educational themes which were effectively transversal to the various disciplines. This book presents the results of this methodological approach, aimed at fostering a conscious, reflective and personal learning. As the title suggests, the essays are designed to focus the question of the educational relationship within a multidisciplinary perspective. 〈i〉Us-them〈/i〉, to remind ourselves that adults have a fundamental and inescapable responsibility. The relationship is typically asymmetrical, with special features and decidedly variable over time. It has in fact been marked for centuries by a failure to recognise the needs of the youngsters and their own subjectivity, to the point of arriving at disturbing levels of violence and coercion.     Description: The keynote of the recent history of the faculty of educational science of Florence University is change. This has emerged in response to the demands for education expressed by a new knowledge society, spawned by the processes of globalisation, and the social need to foster interculturalism and the dialogue between diversities. In this new dimension of change, education becomes the framework for preparation, but also for re-integrating and updating life itineraries that are swift and precarious, veined with insecurity and disillusionment. Even in the new approach, the scientific and cultural benchmark continues to be a consistent adherence to the secular, historic-pedagogic and educational tradition represented by the masters of the "Florence School". Since its creation in 1996, the new faculty has staked forcefully on the centrality of training in relation to the traditional focus on the professionalism of primary and secondary school teachers, and on the new extra-scholastic training issues: the educational professions; pedagogic care; the social education of adults; the technologies of education and instruction; the philosophic, sociological, psychological and anthropological dimension of education; the broad sphere of hardship and marginalisation and the different faces of diversity.
