    Beschreibung: Transcending the dialectic between appearance and reality, Euripides succeeded in giving human intelligibility to a new Helena, who never loved Paris nor fled with him. Menelaus' wife must vindicate to her newfound husband that she is the real Helena, quite different from the ghost that the hero brought with him from Troy. The volume analyzes the various resources of re-characterization of Helena in Euripides' tragedy. ; Los personajes de la tragedia ática han sido ampliamente estudiados desde perspectivas en las que, a menudo, sus palabras y actos se explican a partir de nuestras nociones modernas sobre la mente humana y la personalidad, y desde valoraciones éticas y juicios morales ajenos a la Grecia clásica. El ensayo Rescatando a Helena se propone contemplar la caracterización de Helena en la tragedia homónima de Eurípides desde una perspectiva en la que la inteligibilidad humana del personaje no procede del supuesto descubrimiento de su conciencia interna o de su psique individual, sino de la adecuada subordinación de la caracterización de Helena a la acción de la obra en la que dicha caracterización está orgánicamente integrada. En vez de aislar al personaje del contexto dramático al que pertenece, como si estuviese dotado de una identidad idiosincrática, mi ensayo no intenta descubrir quién es realmente Helena leyendo entre líneas por debajo de la superficie textual, sino cómo sus palabras y acciones logran conmover eficazmente al auditorio original de la obra. Frente a nuestras lecturas eruditas y reflexivas de los textos conservados, los espectadores del siglo V a. C. acudían al Teatro de Dioniso para ver y oír las acciones y las palabras de los personajes trágicos dentro de un espectáculo más amplio que incluía música y danza. Es decir, la tragedia ática era ante todo una experiencia emocional, no una ocasión para la introspección psicológica o la reflexión filosófica.

The comparison of the accounting documentation it generated with the monument itself and the lapidary signs identified thanks to the application of new technologies, has made it possible to approach the daily life of one of the most important construction undertakings of the Castilian Middle Ages and to contribute to a new reading of the resources, the people and the organization of the stonemasonry workshops.

La movilidad espacial y social se encuentra con frecuencia en el corazón de los mecanismos de estos cambios. A través de los lazos existentes entre movilidad y antroponimia, este libro propone nuevas vías y numerosos instrumentos de análisis para estudiar la historia de los nombres. La situación de diversas regiones de Europa (Italia del norte, Mallorca, Navarra o Extremadura), el juego de los cambios onomásticos entre numerosos grupos de emigrantes (castellanos que han partido a las Indias, catalanes en Italia, irlandeses en Francia o en España), los efectos de la expansión europea sobre el dominio colonial (nombres del Inca, nombres de indígenas y de esclavos, nombres de soldados coloniales) son los principales temas examinados en el presente libro.

El estudio de las culturas republicanas en la historia contemporánea de Portugal y España se ha consolidado como una importante corriente de investigación en las últimas décadas. Evaluar la distancia recorrida era una tarea inaplazable que este volumen ha pretendido alcanzar.     Beschreibung: Este libro pretende aportar una visión de conjunto de la política exterior española durante el reinado de Felipe V, entre 1713 y 1746, periodo en el que se consolidaron la dinastía borbónica en España y el sistema de equilibrio europeo forjado en la paz de Utrecht. Aborda este asunto crucial, que no había sido tratado de forma sistemática, mediante una visión global y multidimensional que pone de relieve los vínculos existentes entre política interior y exterior, a la vez que analiza el rol de la monarquía de España en el contexto europeo. Expone las líneas maestras de esta política exterior de los gobiernos de Felipe V, analiza tanto los objetivos que perseguía (territoriales, políticos y económicos) como la reacción que suscitó en Europa, y, finalmente, efectúa un balance de sus características y de sus logros.

    Beschreibung: La historiografía tradicional ha sostenido que España padeció una imagen pésima en la Francia del siglo XVIII, donde el mundo de los philosophes habría alimentado la mitología antiespañola de la llamada «leyenda negra» con su desprecio, desinterés y desconocimiento del país vecino. La historiografía, sin embargo, nunca ha profundizado en la búsqueda de una imagen positiva de España en la Francia ilustrada. Este ensayo desvela la existencia de destacados intelectuales y medios periodísticos franceses interesados en abrir canales de comunicación y estrechar contactos con España. Reconocedores del valor del legado histórico español y críticos con sus compatriotas philosophes, los componentes de esa corriente francesa proespañola —que pertenecieron en su mayoría al ámbito del reformismo moderado y valoraron positivamente los progresos de la España borbónica— admitieron el carácter arquetípico de algunas manifestaciones culturales españolas, sobre todo el teatro y la novela, géneros en los que España —sostuvieron— fue prototipo y modelo de los mejores autores franceses y europeos de los siglos XVI y XVII, e incluso podría seguir siéndolo durante el XVIII.

Muestran cómo un autor, un artista, sea judío, musulmán o cristiano, describe o comprende las prácticas religiosas, las realidades culturales, las costumbres de sus oponentes y su evolución en el Medioevo.     Beschreibung: En las regiones a las dos orillas del Gaditanum fretum existía una concentración de ciudades única en el Imperio. La importancia y el significado de estas ciudades como centros de poder se mantienen -según el debate actual- sin interrupción hasta comienzos del siglo VIII, pero, ¿cómo se desarrolla a partir de entonces, después de estos años que hasta ahora siempre se habían considerado como punto de inflexión decisivo en la historia de estas regiones? Ya en 1985, Hugh N. Kennedy llamó la atención sobre el hecho de que la llamada «Madīna» debería considerarse consecuencia de transformaciones sociales y económicas, más que resultado de una «islamización» abrupta de la sociedad. Este volumen, en función de la nueva valoración del mundo de las ciudades de la Antigüedad tardía, quiere cuestionar sus consecuencias para la época de la temprana Edad Media, desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar y sobre una nueva base material.

    Beschreibung: Los lectores contemporáneos intentan asociar un nombre de autor a cada texto, en una concordancia ideal entre la obra y su creador. Sin embargo, son numerosos los casos de autores que se sustraen a la mirada del lector. La autorialidad no constituye necesariamente el atributo de un sujeto; puede estratificarse involucrando a otros actores de la producción de lo escrito. Las modalidades de presencia del autor también son múltiples: mientras unos tienden a difuminarse mediante el anonimato o el apócrifo, otros se manifiestan. Este libro se propone renunciar al creador como instancia unívoca para considerar los casos límite en que éste se esquiva y definir las relaciones entre el autor y las diferentes figuras que reviste en la obra. Dicha exploración de la ocultación autorial se realiza a partir de textos españoles, desde la Edad Media hasta el siglo xviii, antes de que el estatuto del autor sea plenamente reconocido.

    Beschreibung: El siglo XIX elevó la Guerra de la Independencia al rango de mito fundador de la nación española: el Dos de Mayo, el sitio de Zaragoza, la batalla de Bailén suenan todavía hoy como las hazañas de una gesta patriótica sin parangón. Esta interpretación tiene una historia: la sacralización de las guerras napoleónicas, en tanto que mito liberal, elaborado en los años 1830, conoció numerosos vaivenes, al paso de una historia política sobresaltada. ¿Qué lugar ocupa este mito en la vida política española del siglo XIX? A todas luces, el mito y las memorias de la Guerra de la Independencia, desde 1808 hasta la celebración del centenario, constituyen un verdadero hilo conductor que permite indagar en la arqueología del sentimiento nacional español y sus posteriores vicisitudes.

López de Gómara's Historia de las Indias is the only chronicle of the Indies in the sixteenth century to offer a complete overview of the process of discovery and conquest, even though the author had never been to the Indies. The intelligence and elegance of Gómara's style explain the remarkable success of the work both in Spain and in Europe, in spite of a diffusion disrupted by the prohibition decrees from 1553. Of the two parts that compose it, it is the first, critically edited here, that has had the greatest influence on the history of ideas.

    Beschreibung: El cine forma parte hoy en día del patrimonio nacional. Sin embargo, la cuestión de la nacionalidad de los productos fílmicos está relacionada con diferentes aspectos: industrial, económico, historiográfico y estético. En cuanto al criterio oficial, se vincula habitualmente al espacio de producción; sin embargo, la nacionalidad del director de la película o de los actores, la ubicación de los espacios de rodaje, el idioma, o los acentos, la relación con unas corrientes estéticas o con géneros cinematográficos nacionalmente marcados pueden también ser considerados como tipos de clasificación. En España, el problema se plantea de forma más compleja que en otros muchos países ya que sobrepone casi de manera constante la nacionalidad regional o autonómica y la nación o las naciones. La película se convierte así en un territorio inestable y de difícil percepción, suponiendo interferencias que desacreditan cualquier análisis ignorante de la diversidad de los contextos. Por otra parte, el cine español ya no se puede concebir desconectado del resto de Europa, y la hispanidad sigue aportando elementos propios de una comunidad transnacional lingüística, cultural e histórica. Reflexionar sobre la nacionalidad en el cine supone explorar las interconexiones, las mezclas, las porosidades que ponen en tela de juicio una lectura limitada y estrecha de un concepto como el de «nación». Este es el camino por donde este libro pretende ir.

    Beschreibung: Gracias a los aportes de destacados especialistas, tanto europeos como americanos del Norte y del Sur, este libro plural explora las diferentes dimensiones del proceso revolucionario que, en los albores del siglo xix, ha llevado a las regiones americanas del Imperio español a declarar su independencia, revelando el dinamismo y la riqueza de la renovación historiográfica logrados sobre este objeto, todavía mal conocido. Mediante un diálogo permanente, se abordan las distintas temporalidades del proceso, los lenguajes tanto políticos como religiosos y constitucionales, la diversidad de los actores y de sus prácticas, así como los vínculos de estas revoluciones con Europa y Estados Unidos. Por tanto, la historia presentada a través de estas páginas difiere notablemente de la forjada por los primeros historiadores latinoamericanos, preocupados ante todo por transmitir a la posteridad un gran relato liberal y nacional. El lector encontrará en este volumen las herramientas necesarias para familiarizarse con estas revoluciones tildadas de exóticas y, sin embargo, tan cercanas a nosotros.

    Beschreibung: The personal diary that Modesto de la Torre wrote between 1821 and 1822 reflects the perceptions of a young royalist military man about a New Spain that was gaining independence from the Peninsula to become a Mexican Empire. The author traveled from Cadiz to Mexico City with the retinue that accompanied the last viceroy, Juan O'Donojú, and in his pages he describes the nature, towns and cities he passed through, as well as the political and military events that took place during those years. Anecdotes, both major and minor, are found in these brief chronicles. In addition, the dialogue with himself, through writing, is a means to exorcise the crisis of the culture of masculinity that was part of his imaginary. This crisis was largely caused by the nationalist discourse of the Mexicans and their military victories, which became the central theme of his reflections and is extensively analyzed in the study that precedes the transcription of the diary. The spontaneous and secret character of the Apuntaciones makes them a singular source for historians of the early 19th century, of nationalism, and of the little-known first-person writings in the Latin American world of the time.

    Beschreibung: Through a shifted and enriched approach, combining history and anthropology/sociology, this book addresses the forms of social integration and the multiple cultural hybridizations produced by slavery in the societies of Europe, Africa and America during the medieval and modern periods. Analyzing the normative contours used to define the identity of the slave, it then discusses his attempts and modalities of integration in the host societies, measuring the socialization process that may have resulted. Questioning the social mechanisms of the ancient societies that presided over the mixing of populations, as attested by the sources, is one of the areas that historians in this field (Atlantic societies, Maghreb) are most interested in. Among their main projects is that of deconstructing illusions of "racial" and cultural homogeneity in contemporary societies. A work on the acculturation and agency capacity of slaves, on the capacity of enslaved persons (not only freed) to exist as actors in the social sphere, particularly in the Iberian peninsula and the Mediterranean area, is the aim of this work. By proposing a history of Mediterranean brewing, it challenges preconceived ideas about cultural divisions and civilizational confinements.

    Beschreibung: In 1711, in the freezing winter of Madrid, Coadjutor Brother Felipe Frutos, a soldier in the wars of Catalonia in the 1690s, a Jesuit in the convulsive Barcelona of 1701-1705, sat down to write his life, although he had no hope of seeing it published. Why would he take up the quill? For one who had been a small and roguish peasant in the region of Segovia, experiences had accumulated and his prominence had moved from Spain to New Spain, crossing the south of France until he reached Italy. From ship to carriage or on muleback, he had lived unusual adventures in times of misery and cold, a thousand facets that are captured in a writing that is very much his own. Frutos writes as he is: humorous, inventive, self-taught. The study and annotated edition of his diary, which covers the years 1674 to 1711, and of his "Relación sucinta de las propiedades de los indios mexicanos", written in 1722, make this volume an exceptional source to understand the vision "from below" of a universe that extends from Rome to Acapulco, through which some of the most relevant characters and historical events of the period parade, intertwined with the personal perception of Frutos towards Castilians, Catalans, Romans and Indians.

    Beschreibung: Este libro quiere ser una aportación novedosa a la historia española del proceso secularizador. Su propósito es demostrar que se puede hablar de secularización en España antes de que la noción tenga efectiva productividad jurídica y constitucional. El periodo elegido (1700-1845) es precisamente época clave de las interrogaciones sobre secularización de lo político; pero tales interrogaciones son heterogéneas, ya que la propia idea de secularización se pone a debate y está sometida a múltiples bloqueos. Parece empezar a funcionar entonces un proceso de secularización social y cultural antes que político. En efecto, la influencia secularizadora de las ideas de la Ilustración conlleva cambios sociales y nuevas prácticas culturales, científicas y artísticas, que transforman, hasta en el seno de la Iglesia, la percepción de lo sagrado. Tales cambios ocasionan, a principios del siglo xix, la ruptura de la convención entre la Monarquía, la Iglesia y la Nación.

El lector encontrará a la vez amplias síntesis que cubren el conjunto de la época contemporánea y estudios más concretos relativos entre otros puntos a clases para adultos y obreros, escuelas de formación profesional, Universidades Populares, cine documental y bibliotecas de sociedades populares. Al abordar los territorios y las formas de la educación popular, cabe interrogarse históricamente en torno a los destinatarios de las varias iniciativas de educación popular, o sea las «clases populares» (por su exclusión de las redes escolares), pero también al conjunto de los actores y a las estrategias que les movieron a impulsar tales iniciativas. El estudio del contenido de la formación recibida, sus finalidades explícitas e implícitas (disciplina social, moralización, productivismo o autonomía personal, promoción social) puede ayudarnos a perfilar estos modelos y valorar el crisol de experiencias comunes, dentro de determinados espacios de sociabilidad popular.

    Beschreibung: La importancia del adorno de interiores en el siglo xviii apenas ha dejado vestigios materiales más allá de las residencias palaciegas, siendo igualmente escaso el estudio de sus fuentes. Entre estas últimas se encuentra el plan decorativo para los apartamentos de la duquesa de Alba en el Palacio de Buenavista (1792), raro testimonio escrito en forma de viaje pintoresco por el comerciante de sedas y adornista François Grognard, quien hizo un diseño ex profeso a la moda. La traducción al español de este apasionante relato se acompaña de la transcripción anotada de la correspondencia manuscrita conservada en la Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon, y tres estudios particulares sobre Grognard, el palacio de Buenavista y la actividad de los adornistas. El libro es una contribución novedosa al conocimiento de la intensa actividad artística y comercial de Madrid y de las relaciones internacionales a través de un intermediario culto y moderno.

Esa fotografía del Leviatán —el Estado Moderno—, en sus años formativos, constituye el principal propósito de este libro, en un acercamiento pragmático, inmerso en la cotidianidad, jocosa o trágica. Se siguen vidas a «salto de mata», rescatando sus sueños y tropelías, restituyendo sus vivencias y, con ellas, las de una época, así como parte de la maquinaria imperial, cuando el sol se ponía sobre la Monarquía. Para mantener el hilo de esta historia global, dichos procesos se analizan a través del prisma de la historia de las finanzas, examinando los problemas fiscales en su interdependencia con transformaciones económicas, sociales y culturales más amplias. Resultado de dos proyectos del programa ECOS que reunieron a especialistas argentinos, franceses y mexicanos, así como a colegas de Alemania, España e Italia invitados a distintos encuentros, el libro ha intentado situarse en diferentes escalas de observación: la de la Monarquía, que negocia y reforma los mecanismos de acceso y de circulación de recursos, transformando así sus propios equilibrios políticos; o, en el otro extremo, la de las arenas locales, donde la cooperación y el conflicto de sus actores producían reconfiguraciones institucionales y territoriales; o aun el ámbito de los dispositivos que atravesaban las diferentes escalas —los derechos de propiedad, los cuerpos y las articulaciones comunitarias, o las dimensiones fiscales de la ciudadanía— cuyas evoluciones acompasaban el tránsito del Antiguo Régimen al orden republicano.

    Beschreibung: La ausencia de una obra dedicada al estudio de los lugares de memoria de la identidad nacional española durante el franquismo constituía una laguna importante de la historiografía española que este volumen intenta completar. Se pretende aquí, por un lado, abordar el estudio del nacionalismo español durante el franquismo a la luz de la dimensión cultural y simbólica de la política, contribuyendo así a un mejor conocimiento de la evolución del discurso y de las prácticas nacionalistas a lo largo de las diferentes etapas por las que pasó el régimen, más allá de las aproximaciones puntuales o excesivamente generales. Por otro lado, y en consecuencia, se propone en este libro una perspectiva interpretativa de la nacionalización franquista que otorgue un mayor protagonismo a las prácticas culturales, simbólicas y visuales, contemplándolas en su interacción con otras identidades colectivas.

En España y Portugal se leían, comentaban y discutían los escritos de la Reforma. Su recepción no fue una mera aceptación pasiva de ideas extranjeras, sino el fruto de una interacción con planteamientos espirituales autóctonos que no puede ser reducida a la polarización entre católicos y protestantes. Las redes de creyentes evolucionaron al mismo tiempo que las doctrinas reformadas y que las estrategias de contención desarrolladas por los reyes y la Inquisición.     Beschreibung: Durante mucho tiempo se han considerado como un hito esencial en la historia del imperio hispanoamericano la muerte del último Habsburgo a finales del siglo xviii y la llegada al trono de los Borbones a inicios de la centuria siguiente. Como ya, en no pocos aspectos, la realidad de las provincias americanas se estaba autonomizando de los procesos de la Península, ese cambio sucedió para ellas en un contexto de dinámicas propias y de evoluciones a veces notables aunque en general mal conocidas, con las que tuvo que contar el gobierno español cuando inició las primeras reformas que prefiguraban las de la segunda mitad del siglo.     Beschreibung: Los estudios aquí reunidos versan sobre el contacto intelectual entre musulmanes y judíos que tuvo lugar en el Occidente islámico medieval. El eje crucial de dicho contacto fue la lengua árabe, pues la arabización de los judíos posibilitó la comunicación diaria y literaria entre dos comunidades. ¿En qué consistió esa comunicación en el campo intelectual? ¿Hasta qué punto las partes implicadas se vieron afectadas por igual? ¿Qué disciplinas se prestaron mejor a tal encuentro cultural? ¿Cuáles fueron los márgenes entre los que se canalizó este para asegurar el mantenimiento, dentro de su inevitable devenir, de las identidades culturales propias? Las respuestas a estas y otras preguntas conciernen a la función identitaria de la lengua, al desarrollo de la gramática hebrea y de la exégesis de los textos sagrados hebreos, a la poesía ascética y las expectativas mesiánicas, a la obra de autores tan destacados como al-Harizi, Maimónides, Ibn Jaldun e Ibn Adret. Si los especialistas encontrarán materia de interés en el libro, la aportación de la obra no se limita a esos campos, pues atañe al lector no especialista que sienta curiosidad por el apasionante proceso de un encuentro entre culturas.

    Beschreibung: This book deals with the historical development of a group of four Spanish adjectives and adverbs: preciso / precisamente, justo / justamente, exacto / exactamente and cabal / cabalmente. Based on large historical corpus data-samples, this study combines quantitative and qualitative analysis with semasiological and onomasiological approaches and its focus lies on the diachronic development of three discourse functions (focussing, affirmation and reformulation). The results are discussed with reference to current theories of language change (grammaticalization, pragmaticalization, thetical grammar and cooptation) and explanatory factors such as analogy and changes in frequency.
    Beschreibung: Anhand einer historischen Korpusanalyse werden die spanischen Adjektiv-Adverb-Paare justo / justamente, cabal / cabalmente, preciso / precisamente y exacto / exactamente aus semasiologischer sowie onomasiologischer Perspektive analysiert. Die Studie kombiniert quantitative und qualitative Analysen und das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf der diachronen Entwicklung der drei Diskursfunktionen (Fokussierung, Affirmation und Reformulierung).     Beschreibung: La España contemporánea vivió según su propia cronología, y su propio dramatismo, los cambios y las crisis de las sociedades occidentales. De hecho, las relaciones entre la Iglesia y el Estado orientaron, sin duda mucho más que en otros países, su historia. La hegemonía política y cultural de la España moderna, reivindicada por la derecha, estribaba en el catolicismo. Toda cuestión política tuvo en España un trasfondo religioso puesto que la religión abarcaba todas las esferas de la sociedad y el Estado dependía de la Iglesia. Pero la sacralización por la derecha autoritaria de un pasado glorioso y de la organización estamental del Antiguo Régimen, confundidos con el catolicismo triunfante, contribuyó a forjar la imagen de un país enfrentado con la modernidad y que tenía dificultades para adaptarse a las exigencias del liberalismo económico y político. Lo que estuvo en juego en la lenta evolución de este fenómeno religioso fue la interpretación de la modernización y de la democratización de España. La democracia, que pasó de ser un valor reivindicado por una minoría social a una exigencia compartida por amplios sectores, implicaba otra relación con una Iglesia que aceptara la cultura secular y renunciara a su concepción totalizadora de la sociedad.

    Beschreibung: Los estudios aquí incluidos se enmarcan todos en el área geográfica que comprende el actual territorio de Marruecos extendido por el Este hasta incluir Orán. Se trata del territorio norteafricano de más intensa imbricación con la Península Ibérica y el único en no estar bajo el dominio otomano. La intensidad de las relaciones entre la Península y el Magreb se debe en gran parte a la población judía, verdadera mediadora entre estos dos conjuntos religiosos, culturales y políticos. Los judíos tuvieron que vivir en un ambiente fronterizo y adoptaron estrategias que dejaron una profunda huella en el judaísmo moderno. En este libro se habla de judíos y también de conversos al cristianismo o de criptojudíos. Los contactos de los judíos magrebíes con las comunidades peninsulares son constantes y la existencia de conversos, de «cristianos nuevos», es uno de los problemas más importantes de los primeros siglos de la Edad Moderna española. La historia de estas comunidades forma parte, pues, de la historia de España como de la del Magreb: aparente paradoja que estas actas contribuyen a esclarecer y definir en su justa escala.

    Beschreibung: Este volumen es el fruto del seminario hispanofrancés organizado por la Casa de Velázquez durante el curso académico 1992-1993, en la línea de un coloquio anterior dedicado a la comedia áurea y cuyas actas se publicaron en esta misma colección. Los participantes de las tres sesiones de este encuentro no han querido emprender otra vez, al estilo de Menéndez Pelayo, una búsqueda de los orígenes de la novela: a la España aurisecular, en efecto, no se le ocurrió nunca fraguar ni menos aún concebir como tal un género al que aplicamos un término que, en aquel entonces, tenía otro significado del que ha venido a cobrar. Dentro de la segunda, se nos ofrece un doble balance: el primero, sobre los problemas de la picaresca, previo al estudio del Guzmán de Alfarache y del Buscón; el segundo, sobre la «invención de la novela» por Cervantes, a partir del cual se abren nuevas pistas para futuros trabajos.

    Beschreibung: Al final del siglo XV, y hasta la mitad del siglo XVI, la música todavía no se había independizado de la letra con la que formaba un concierto armonioso. Da la pauta el canto religioso y lo profano respeta tan inspirados ejemplos ofreciendo música cantada y canto musicado. La sociedad de corte es la que ofrece la ilustración más brillante de la textura musical del verso, tanto como de la riqueza expresiva de la música. Parece natural que filólogos y musicólogos se concierten para estudiar estos elementos de la poesía cantada de los siglos XV y XVI. ¡Pero los primeros sólo estudian la letra, los segundos únicamente el canto! De ahí surgió la idea de delimitar cuál fue el entorno en que creció y floreció la poesía cantada. Las fuentes están disponibles en el caso de las personas reales, o las partituras y tablaturas conservadas en los tratados de vihuela. Pero en la mayoría de los casos, el investigador debe reconstruir la figura de un poeta-músico, el conjunto de una obra, los versos que fueron cantados sin que nadie se molestara en apuntar la música. Toda una serie de problemas que no hubieran podido ser resueltos sin la colaboración efectiva de filólogos y musicólogos, cuyo intento queda reflejado en estas páginas.

A fin de analizar algunas de sus manifestaciones, este libro se interesa especialmente por las formas gráficas y significados de las escrituras expuestas, desde la inscripción renacentista a la pintada política en la dictadura chilena; las prácticas epistolares en cuanto que testimonio de la importancia social de la comunicación escrita; los libros de memorias, considerados como objetos donde se configura la memoria personal y familiar, susceptibles incluso de ser interpretados en clave autobiográfica; y por último, distintos acercamientos a la apropiación de los textos con la mirada puesta en los consumidores e intermediarios, desde la nobleza culta hasta los lectores más «débiles», prestando atención tanto a la cultura manuscrita como a la impresa entre los siglos xvi y xix. Frente al fetichismo libresco que caracteriza no pocas aproximaciones a la Historia de la Cultura Escrita, esta obra se interesa por esta en la diversidad de sus formas textuales –epigráficas, murales, manuscritas o impresas, permanentes y efímeras–, pues solo así se puede captar la riqueza de cuanto una determinada sociedad, integrada por gentes de letras pero también por semialfabetizados y analfabetos, escribe y lee. Culturas del escrito, en suma, que certifican la vitalidad de esta corriente de investigación y tratan de contribuir a la Historia que escribimos en estos tiempos de incertidumbre.

    Beschreibung: The concept at issue in this book is Weltliteratur, or World Literature. Theoretical frameworks usually view the now-famous epistolary exchange between Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the young Johann Peter Eckermann as the true foundation of the concept, (though earlier promoters of similar ideas, such as August Wilhelm Schlegel can be cited)1. Goethe wrote this to Eckermann in a well-known letter in 1827: “National literature is now a rather unmeaning term; the epoch of World Literature is at hand, and everyone must strive to hasten its approach”2. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels as well as Richard Moulton and Erich Auerbach, among many others, also all contributed to the category from their respective historical moments and theoretical perspectives. Marx and Engels, of course, took a materialist point of view that emphasized the expansion of the capitalist economic project and its progressive conquest of the world as a market. Richard Moulton and Erich Auerbach, on the other hand, came from a humanistic philological perspective that, as Jérôme David has put it in his reflections on the different genealogies of World Literature, “derived from the anxious preoccupation with what the literary works mean” (2013: 14) and focused very early on the problems of translation and canonization that would become crucial for the conceptual debates of our time

    Beschreibung: The ‘Colección Psicología y Ley’ was created by the Sociedad Española de Psicología Jurídica y Forense [Spanish Society of Forensic Psychology] with the aim of publishing the proceedings of the Society conferences. The proceedings consist of a selection of empirical unpublished papers and systematic and meta-analytic reviews of contributions presented to the conference of the Society on topics dealing with the intersection between psychology and law (e.g., testimony assessment, prison inmate treatment, community batterer treatment, forensic psychological injury assessment, child-to-parent violence, eyewitness testimony, legal decision making). The contributions have to lead knowledge transfer from scientific research to professional practice as a forensic psychologist. New applications and scientific evidence-based practices of psychology to law issues are especially welcome. The applications must be inserted in a legal framework (i.e., that to which the application was designed) and all the applications must meet with all the scientific (e.g., reliable and valid measures, forensic or statistical significance,) and specific legal requirements (e.g., testimony based in hypnosis is not permitted by Spanish laws, so applications based in this technique are not legally admissible penitentiary treatment is voluntary, so offenders may not be forced to be treated). When appropriate and possible, a strict decision criterion for practitioners should be reported. Data normally involves the assessment of subjects, therefore they must be processed in accordance with national data protection law (where they were obtained or processed) and authors are urged to review the supplement to the APA ethical list. The manuscripts are reviewed by two blind referees. The reviews are anonymous for authors and reviewers. Author identities are removed before sending out a manuscript to the reviewers.

    Beschreibung: A los cincuenta años de la muerte de Antonio Machado nos ha parecido útil hacer un balance de los numerosos estudios que suscitó su obra, pero sobre todo considerar ésta en su totalidad, con los problemas que plantea su índole plural y fragmentaria, su estructura y su constante evolución. La obra de Antonio Machado puede aparecernos como una obra poética engastada en una obra filosófica que se incluye a su vez en una labor periodística, aunque sabemos que casi todos los escritores españoles publicaron su obra en la prensa. Al crear personajes apócrifos, no se trataba sólo para Machado de pensar y de verse pensar, ni de refugiarse detrás de unas máscaras cómodas. Los cuadernos que escribió al día sin ningún proyecto orgánico muestran también que concebía su obra -a través de la forma literaria que llegó a escoger, casi abandonando a principios de los años veinte, y hasta la guerra, el verso por la prosa- como una materia en perpetua elaboración. Esta concepción de la literatura es, en aquella época, totalmente nueva. No distingue entre esencias diferentes. Ahí se origina la extraordinaria riqueza del pensamiento de Machado pero también cierta dificultad metodológica para dar cuenta de esta obra, resultado de una escritura difusa que superpone varios lenguajes y los une en un trabajo sin fin, que quizá nos permita ver en la prosa machadiana -y, por ejemplo, en la elaboración de una teoría poética práctica- la coronación de la obra lírica. De aquí, no obstante, el indudable fracaso de todo acercamiento temático ajeno o indiferente a la reestructuración continua de los puntos de vista y de lo dicho, a la irremediable tensión o contradicción entre teoría y práctica, que conducen al escritor no sólo de la poesía a la prosa, sino también del solipsismo al elogio del diálogo y a la reflexión crítica, y de éstos al compromiso político y a la militancia por la cultura. ¿Machado, hoy? poco importan las máscaras del poeta o que no haya conseguido imponer su forma. Los caminos de Antonio Machado son graduados, pero siempre coherentes.
