    Description: The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of the Americas, since 2020 has been developing a deep process of reflection regarding its foundations and options epistemological, in order to provide an alternative professional training situated and in in tune with the great processes that the country is experiencing. It is within this framework that, during the second half of 2021, a series of instances of academic updating, in relevant topics for the formative work that is developed daily. One of these instances was the "Interdiscipline and University Curriculum" Workshop, in which academics from the Faculty participated. As the final challenge of the workshop, the idea arose to carry out an experience of interdisciplinary collective work, which would allow us to continue strengthening the academic production of the Faculty. In this sense, it is that a group of academics set themselves the task of writing each one a text in relation to the concepts: Human Well-being- Social Transformation- Human Rights- Tolerance-Care-Development, which emerge from the Mission and Vision of the Faculty. addressing them from the disciplinary and professional perspectives, which are at the base of the careers that make up the academic unit. What is presented in this book accounts for the reflections of academics on the Interdiscipline and the different views of the same phenomenon, which come together in the formative task that It is shared daily in the classrooms.

    Description: This study on the debates on the question of alcohol in the socialist parties belonging to the Second International (1889-1914) and in the first years of the Russian Revolution aims to show how socialist organizations tried to address the fight against addictions in the heart of the working class. The socialists argued that addictions, as a social phenomenon, are the product of the conditions generated by capitalist exploitation, and therefore cannot be combated with punishment, but must be treated, on the one hand, through social reforms, and on the another, like any other disease, with medical treatment. At the same time, they argued that one of the main sources of the abuse of drink among the working masses was the despair and indifferentism resulting from it, and that the fight against addictions could only be waged by inspiring the workers with a cause to fight for. , that is, with a higher ideal of life like the one offered by socialism.

El Imperio se pinta como una aventura espuria en la que a excepción de unos cuantos conservadores despechados, los mexicanos tuvieron muy poco que ver: antes bien el país entero olvidó sus antiguas disensiones para seguir las banderas de Patria y República que empuñaba Benito Juárez. Sin embargo, esta página romántica de la Historia Patria cuadra mal con la realidad de un régimen que si bien es cierto fue impuesto por las bayonetas francesa, también fue deseado, organizado y administrado por mexicanos. ¿Quiénes fueron estos? ¿Por qué colaboraron con el usurpador, adhiriéndose a un proyecto político que a posteriori parece absurdo? Al intentar dar respuesta a estas preguntas, esta obra intenta revalorar el episodio imperial como parte integral de la historia mexicana.

Este acontecimiento fue sumamente controvertido tanto en el seno de la organización como al interior de nuestro país. La OCDE no había aceptado el ingreso de otros candidatos por más de veinte años y había concentrado sus actividades solamente entre sus miembros tradicionales. Asimismo, México se sumaba a lo que hasta entonces se consideraba como un "club exclusivo" que integraba a los países capitalistas más desarrollados del planeta ¿Cómo se desenvolvió el inicio de la participación de México en la OCDE y en qué momento ambos actores internacionales se hicieron convergentes? ¿De qué manera fue posible que una organización hermética, y que hallaba su identidad en una tajante división del mundo según los niveles de desarrollo de cada Estado, aceptase la membresía de un país de menor desarrollo relativo? ¿Bajo qué restricciones México se alineó a los objetivos y valores de la OCDE y qué consecuencias se fueron derivando de lo anterior? Finalmente, ¿cuáles han sido a lo largo del tiempo los costos y beneficios reales de la participación de un país como México en una organización como la OCDE, así como la posición e influencia que cada uno ha manejado con respecto al otro? La autora responde a estas preguntas a partir de una evaluación sobre la incidencia que de 1994 a 2002 ambos actores tuvieron tanto hacia su contraparte como hacia el contexto internacional en su conjunto.

    Description: El título de esta obra Originales e inéditos 1928. José Carlos Mariátegui es, en cierta medida, atrevido, por cuanto se considera que las obras completas, es decir, todos los escritos de Mariátegui están publicados, según se tiene conocimiento. Pese a dichas publicaciones, las lecturas de sus fuentes directas (léase, revistas de 1928) prospera ron y tomaron dimensiones para la decisión de compilar los escritos y cotejar con las posteriores publicaciones. Entendemos por inédito lo no publicado y estaría en contradicción si las obras de Mariátegui hubieran sido publicadas en su totalidad. Pero existe un enigma para los que desean leer y confiar en esa llamada totalidad. No hay nada más inquietante para un acucioso lector que indagar las fuentes directas como si en la indagación se tratara de manuscritos, y estas fuentes, indudablemente, son los primeros escritos de Mariátegui en distintas revistas de su época (consideramos aquí 1928). Y esta edición crítica nos presenta la compilación de los escritos de Mariátegui poco conocidos, digámoslo de alguna manera, como «manuscritos» o «inéditos», porque fueron archivados, y no tuvieron la disposición de su reedición. No nos plantearemos sus razones, sólo dejamos constancia de ello como un acto irresoluto.

Uno de los principales temas que se tratan en esta obra es el conjunto de repercusiones que acarreó la Gran Depresión estadunidense sobre las economías latinoamericanas. En particular, se muestra que al tiempo que cayeron las exportaciones de México, se dinamizaron los mercados internos y se sentaron así las bases para la acumulación de capital productivo en el país. Sin embargo, al no existir políticas macroeconómicas claramente definidas por parte de los gobiernos posrevolucionarios, el crecimiento industrial fue en gran medida desordenado y produjo efectos nocivos a largo plazo en el entero ámbito económico.     Description: En las últimas décadas Chile no ha estado ajeno a las dinámicas de aumento de la inmigración originando un fuerte impacto en la opinión pública. En este escenario, se debe sumar el cierre de fronteras producto de la pandemia y de las políticas de seguridad instaladas por algunos gobiernos, quedando múltiples grupos de inmigrantes y de refugiados sujetos a una mayor indefensión. El presente libro es fruto del quehacer académico de investigadores jóvenes titulados de Analistas en Políticas y Asuntos Internacionales de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile, que han encontrado en los desplazamientos humanos un lugar para desarrollar sus primeros acercamientos a la investigación y que representan el interés por la temática de las nuevas generaciones. Con la finalidad de fomentar el trabajo realizado por estos jóvenes investigadores en el área migratoria y potenciarlos, resulta esencial la difusión de sus propuestas con una publicación como esta, convirtiéndose dicho objetivo en uno de los principales fines de este texto.

    Description: La violencia contra las mujeres es una realidad, presente con intensidades y formas variadas, en los diferentes contextos socioculturales de nuestro país. Ese es el tema central de este volumen, que reúne artículos derivados de investigaciones originales en torno al fenómeno. El primer eje temático se refiere a los crímenes de odio que desde hace más de un decenio han dejado una huella indeleble en Ciudad Juárez. En un segundo apartado se incluyen dos textos sobre el maltrato a las mujeres embarazadas y la atención que reciben en los espacios de salud. Posteriormente se aborda la violencia en contextos rurales desde dos ángulos específicos: la perspectiva de la medicina tradicional y la experiencia migratoria transnacional. La violencia tiene muchas aristas y cada experiencia concreta se redefine por múltiples factores. A veces el maltrato se torna difícil de describir e incluso de identificar y aun las víctimas pueden tardar años en nombrarlo como tal y actuar en consecuencia. El maltrato psicológico y la agresión sexual, principalmente si esta última es sufrida en la infancia, se ubican en este rubro. Ese es el cuarto eje temático del volumen. Finalmente, se analiza la relación derecho y violencia, tanto desde una perspectiva teórica como con énfasis en la interacción de la norma escrita y la costumbre jurídica. El último apartado del libro está destinado al análisis de la lucha contra la violencia, desde los primeros esfuerzos por romper un silencio arcaico hasta la conquista de un espacio en las agendas públicas.

This health reality has been thought, analyzed and addressed in the international literature through multiple axes (health systems, employment, care, daily life, etc.), reporting, as general conclusions, that we show a radicalization of pre-existing social inequalities in contemporary society. The situation represented a field of experimentation for capital, and an open scenario of overlaps and tensions between "life" and regimes focused on profits. The contradictions of establishing a sense of collaboration between the health of the population and the interests of companies, led to hard-fought and tense examples of ways to generate government practices focused on care, confinement and non-mobility. In the framework of these circumstances, the research task was also conditioned, when not affected. This book brings together a set of productions completed in recent years. Behind their different articles, motivations, expectations, reflections and silent experiences of how each of the authors made writing compatible in a pandemic context are intermingled.

    Description: En el siglo XX se alcanzó una meta que había guiado los esfuerzos de los gobernantes mexicanos del siglo XIX y del Porfiriato: construir un gobierno federal fuerte que abriera paso a la consolidación del mercado interno y del Estado Nacional. Este trabajo aborda uno de los eslabones de ese proceso, que se refiere a la concentración de los ingresos tributarios en manos federales entre 1922 y 1972. Esta historia tributaria incluye la creación de nuevos impuestos (renta, ingresos mercantiles), supresión de otros (timbre, contribución federal), construcción del sistema de participaciones y el impacto de la reforma agraria en las haciendas estatales y municipales. Además se estudian las tensiones que generó esa tendencia tributaria en la organización federal de la República y entre distintos grupos de contribuyentes. El Ejecutivo federal enfrentó más oposiciones y desacatos de lo que comúnmente se reconoce, lo que obliga a ver con otros ojos a la institución presidencial.
