    Description: Records of Disasters: Media Infrastructures and Climate Change explores how environmental disasters manifest and inscribe themselves in infrastructures. By turning to infrastructures, their logic and functioning, collapse and malfunction, the volume reveals their potential as fragile material witnesses to and of disasters. As climate change is unequally distributed across continuous dynamics and events, time scales and spatial registers, infrastructures can be understood as proxies or seismographs mediating different spatio-temporal layers that make these dynamics tangible. Disaster is made operational by negotiating what is defined as such, and under which geopolitical conditions. What connects melting glaciers and the knowledge from ice cores to the mapping of the ocean floor and the extraction of resources in the deep-sea? How can infrastructures be thought in time and “critical proximity”, and how do they bear witness to colonial pasts and presents? The volume proposes an analytical perspective on infrastructures as multi-layered witnesses to climate change, bringing together scientific and artistic approaches, students and scholars from different disciplines.

In Büchern, Aufsätzen, Zeitungsartikeln, Interviews und Reden in Hörfunk und Fernsehen reflektierte er die gesellschaftliche und politische Lage der Bundesrepublik in der Nachkriegszeit. Daneben formulierte er ein kriminalpolitisches Programm, in dem er Ziel und Zweck des Strafrechts grundlegend infrage stellte. Bauer hat in diesen Schriften oft Positionen bezogen, die für seine Zeit ungewöhnlich waren; zugleich zeigen sie, wie eng er dem Denken seiner Zeit verbunden war. Sie gewähren Einsicht in Diskussionen der frühen Bundesrepublik und führen eindrucksvoll vor Augen, wie sich Bauer als Jurist, Remigrant, jüdischer Intellektueller und Sozialdemokrat einmischte und Gehör verschaffte. So eröffnen seine »Kleinen Schriften« aus heute meist unzugänglichen Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, den Blick auf die Brüche in Bauers Biografie, auf Exil und Remigration als Schlüsselerfahrungen. Fritz Bauer (1903–1968) war eine der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten im Kampf für die juristische Ahndung der NS-Verbrechen in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren in der Bundesrepublik. Von den Nationalsozialisten ins Exil getrieben, kehrte Bauer 1949 nach West-Deutschland zurück und setzte sich als hessischer Generalstaatsanwalt für die Demokratisierung des Landes ein. Kaum etwas weiß man von seinem ungewöhnlichen Werdegang. Aus einer assimilierten jüdischen Danziger Kaufmannsfamilie stammend, war er als junger Mann als Journalist und Zeitungsunternehmer in Berlin erfolgreich. Als »Beschleunigungsmittel des Gedankenverkehrs« bot sich die Stenografie an. Ihre Nutzung als Verkehrsschrift setzte jedoch eine Einheitskurzschrift voraus. Zu deren Einführung kam es aber erst 1924 nach langwierigen Verhandlungen auf Druck der Reichsregierung. Anhand von Presseberichten und Archivtexten bietet der Band einen Einblick in die vielschichtigen Beziehungen zwischen gesellschaftlichen, technischen und kulturellen Entwicklungen sowie den Veränderungen im Bereich der Kommunikation.

Im Vordergrund stehen die durch Kohle, Elektrizitätsversorgung, Erdöl und Erdgas ausgelösten historischen Energiewenden und die damit verbundenen Wandlungsprozesse. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt, ebenfalls mit aktuellem Bezug, auf den annähernd hundertjährigen Erfahrungen im Bereich der Wasserstoffwirtschaft als Grundlage der chemischen Industrie. Damit bietet es erstmals eine Synthese der vielfältigen energiewirtschaftlichen Beziehungen innerhalb der Region.

    Description: How to co-create—and why: the emergence of media co-creation as a concept and as a practice grounded in equity and justice. Co-creation is everywhere: It's how the internet was built; it generated massive prehistoric rock carvings; it powered the development of vaccines for COVID-19 in record time. Co-creation offers alternatives to the idea of the solitary author privileged by top-down media. But co-creation is easy to miss, as individuals often take credit for—and profit from—collective forms of authorship, erasing whole cultures and narratives as they do so. Collective Wisdom offers the first guide to co-creation as a concept and as a practice, tracing co-creation in a media-making that ranges from collaborative journalism to human–AI partnerships. Why co-create—and why now? The many coauthors, drawing on a remarkable array of professional and personal experience, focus on the radical, sustained practices of co-creating media within communities and with social movements. They explore the urgent need for co-creation across disciplines and organization, and the latest methods for collaborating with nonhuman systems in biology and technology. With further examples from the development of literature across the continent, this innovative book sheds new light on narratives about digital Africa. It will also be the first major work to provide a trajectory of class consciousness in Kenyan and Nigerian writing. Through this analysis, the book articulates the difference in attitudes towards queerness, sexuality, and hetero-normativity among successive generations of writers.

Based on case studies and expert interviews in the aforementioned three countries, it analyses the institutional interplay between actors in both the multi-level system and the local sphere. The authors examine the national contexts, local institutional settings and crisis-related challenges of integration management performance in the three countries, taking similarities and differences from a cross-country and inter-municipal com-parative perspective into account. Using illustrative examples from practice and deriving lessons from in-depth insights into local problem-solving, the study makes recommendations for the optimisation of integration management and more crisis-resilient administrative organisation in this policy area.

    Description: Über 40.000 Objekte aus Kamerun (darunter Waffen, Musikinstrumente, Statuen, Alltagsgegenstände, Handschriften, Schmuckstücke u.v.m.) werden heute in öffentlichen Museen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aufbewahrt – der größte Bestand weltweit. Seit der deutschen Kolonialzeit (1886–1916) lagern die Stücke in den Depots der Institutionen. Sie wurden bisher meist nicht gezeigt und auch nicht in Publikationen zugänglich gemacht. Die Autor:innen aus verschiedenen Disziplinen (Geografie, Geschichte, Museumsgeschichte, Ethnologie, Sprachwissenschaft) zeichnen erstmalig diese nicht sichtbare Präsenz von Kamerun in deutschen Museen nach. Damit wird auch nachvollzogen, was die Abwesenheit des Kulturerbes für Kamerun bedeutet. Zahlreiche Karten, Schaubilder und Grafiken veranschaulichen die geografische und statistische Verteilung des materiellen Kulturerbes von Kamerun in Deutschland. Ergänzt werden sie durch Biografien der damaligen Akteure und einen Bildteil mit Fotos der Objekte. Das Projekt: Die Publikation basiert auf dem Projekt »Umgekehrte Sammlungsgeschichte.
