    Physics-Based Probabilistic Motion Compensation of Elastically Deformable Objects (2021)

    Description: A predictive tracking approach and a novel method for visual motion compensation are introduced, which accurately reconstruct and compensate the deformation of the elastic object, even in the case of complete measurement information loss. The core of the methods involves a probabilistic physical model of the object, from which all other mathematical models are systematically derived. Due to flexible adaptation of the models, the balance between their complexity and their accuracy is achieved.

    Description: Several experimental campaigns are conducted to find feasible fiber reinforcements for buildings under earthquake conditions. Therefore tensile tests for the description of the bonding behavior of the fibers, shear tests on three-stone small specimen, small static cyclic shear wall tests, bending tests of wall segments, large format dynamically loaded wall plates and five building experiments were performed under realistic time history acceleration. At the end a calculation method is proposed.

    Influence of elevated temperatures up to 100 °C on the mechanical properties of concrete (2021)

    Description: Experiments to characterize the effects of moisture content and temperature on the mechanical properties of concrete were conducted. Based on these experiments, a new overall material model capable of predicting the mechanical behaviour of concrete subject to elevated temperatures up to 100 °C was developed. The material model estimates the time, temperature and moisture dependency of the compressive and tensile strength, creep and shrinkage of concrete.

    Description: GNSS based positioning techniques have become a standard tool in geodesy. Despite important developments both in receiver and processing technology, site dependent errors, like multipath effects or residual errors in the calibration values of the receiving GNSS antenna, are still a major error source in highly precise GNSS positioning. The method used in this work is based on stacking of observation residuals and therefore able to reduce these error sources effectively.

Im vorliegenden Leitfaden werden die Prozesse des Stofftransports von der fließenden Welle über den Retentionsraum bis zu den Entnahmebrunnen eines Wasserwerks vorgestellt. Es wird deren Einfluss auf ein höheres Risiko der Verunreinigung der Grundwasserressource durch den Eintrag von Schadstoffen aus den Retentionsräumen diskutiert.

All results were combined in an effort to develop a conceptional model describing the mobility of arsenic in West Bengal aquifers.

    Description: The risk estimation of precipitation events with high recurrence periods is difficult due to the limited time scale with meteorological observations. A homogenous distribution of rain gauges, especially in mountainous terrain, is also hardly convertible. In this study an analytical model with a high spatial resolution, designed for stochastic simulations of flood-related precipitation, is developed, evaluated and applied to different investigation areas in Germany.

    Investigation of coherent microscopic defects inside the tunneling barrier of a Josephson junction (2021)

    Description: In disordered solids, two-level atomic-tunneling systems are present in large quantity. Only recently, superconducting qubits opened a door for a detection and individual coherent manipulation of such microscopic quantum systems. We succeeded to tune the resonance frequencies of these systems by applying external strain on the qubit chip. Moreover, we observed and analyzed the interaction between two coupled tunneling systems.

    Description: This work describes the development of an ultra-light-weight Proton-Transfer-Reaction Mass Spectrometer (PTR-MS), its detailed qualification, ground-based and airborne applications and studies on VOC emissions in connection with fossil fuel production. The new system was used aboard a mobile laboratory in order to investigate the chemical fingerprints of the diverse emitters at oil and natural gas well pads. Emissions of aromatic hydrocarbons at a hydraulically fractured well have been studied.

Auf dieser Grundlage wird eine Methode entworfen, mit der überschlägig abgeschätzt werden kann, ob durch den Retentionsraum infiltriertes Flusswasser in die Brunnen gelangt. Weiterhin werden geeignete Methoden für den Aufbau eines numerischen Aquifersimulators, mit dem der Einfluss bei Bedarf quantifiziert werden kann, aufgezeigt.

    Description: Anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste as such or together with food waste, press water or patatoes sludge was investigated to equilibrate methane production within a day or over the weekend, when no OFMSW was available. A stable co-digestion process could be achieved with COD degradation between 60 and 80 %. The max. organic loading rates were 28 kg COD/L,d. For stable methane production the OLR during Co-digestion should not excede 22,5 kg/L,d.

    Description: Die Errichtung von Hochwasserretentionsräumen entlang von Flüssen ist eine verbreitete Maßnahme zur Verbesserung des Hochwasserschutzes. Durch die zusätzlichen Überflutungsflächen können vermehrt Schadstoffe aus der Hochwasserwelle in das Grundwasser eingetragen werden. Dies kann zu einer Gefährdung der Trinkwasserressource in den Flussauen führen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine Methode zur Risikoberechnung für eine Grundwassergefährdung in einem Hochwasserretentionsraum vorgestellt.

In order to quantify the influence of wind on ground motion velocity joint seismological and meteorological measurements were conducted at the Dead Sea.Results reveal a pronounced impact of wind on seismological records. A methodology is presented to account for the dependency of PSD of ground motion velocity on the horizontal wind field.

    Description: The focus of this work is a generic, intraoperative and image-free planning and execution application for arbitrary orthopedic interventions using a novel handheld robotic device and optical see-through glasses (AR). This medical CAD application enables the surgeon to intraoperatively plan the intervention directly on the patient’s bone. The glasses and all the other instruments are accurately calibrated using new techniques. Several interventions show the effectiveness of this approach.

    Description: The characteristic feature of phyllosilicates like muscovite (KAl2[Si3AlO10(OH)2] is their layered structure. Due to the resulting anisotropic optical and electrical properties this mineral is an important raw material in paint industries and polymer composites.Crucial for many of these properties is on one hand a high aspect ratio of the stacks, which will be enhanced by delamination of the mineral. On the other hand the exchange of the interlayer cations like potassium changes the chemical properties of the muscovite, its refraction behaviour and surface properties. But these interlayer cations are difficult to access and are not exchangeable under normal conditions.Thus a process for the intercalation of cations like Cu2+, Mg2+ or Zn2+ from super saturated nitrate solutions in autoclaves was developed to reveal a chemically modified mica phase.The extensive modification of the muscovite structure, due to the intercalation is monitored by X-ray diffractometry and several spectroscopic methods. The XRD results strongly suggest the formation of an intercalated irregular mixed-layer phase. This is proven by far infrared spectroscopy which show the simultaneous occurrence of both K+ and Cu2+ in the interlayer region, strongly increasing the interlayer space.1Investigations in the mid infrared region using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRIFT) suggest a further migration of the intercalated cations deep into the ditrigonal holes of the tetrahedral sheet and their fixation within these holes close to the OH groups.

    Description: Simultaneous 2D pressure and 2D velocity information at the rough water-sediment interface of streambeds were gained by a newly developed measurement setup. In the bed the pressure fluctuations decay exponentially within the first 1-2 equivalent sand roughnesses. Structural findings concerning coherent flow structures are consistent with models originally developed for smooth walls. A significant bed destabilizing flow-pressure pattern was identified for the first time.

CLT could be used for long-span beams in particular with tensile stresses perpendicular to the beam axis. Within this work, CLT beams were optimised, resulting in diagonal orientated timber (DLT). Both CLT and DLT beams were tested in edgewise bending. Their load-carrying behaviour was studied using experimental results and finite element analysis.

Für die Diagnostik steht inzwischen mit der Computer-Tomographie ein leistungsfähiges bildgebendes Verfahren zur Verfügung.Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden Verfahren entwickelt, um dem Radiologen durch eine weitgehend automatische und umfassende Analyse von 4D-CTA-Daten und der automatischen Berechnung wichtiger diagnostischer Parameter zu unterstützen.

    Description: Modern software development faces the problem of fragmentation of information across heterogeneous artefacts in different modelling and programming languages. In this dissertation, the Vitruvius approach for view-based engineering is presented. Flexible views offer a compact definition of user-specific views on software systems, and can be defined the novel ModelJoin language. The process is supported by a change metamodel for metamodel evolution and change impact analysis.

    Description: Die Hagia Sophia in Istanbul ist eines der baugeschichtlich wichtigsten und ingenieurmäßig bemerkenswertesten Bauwerke der letzten 1500 Jahre. Mit Hilfe zerstörungsfreier geophysikalischer Untersuchungsverfahren konnte der heutige Bestand und Zustand der Hauptkuppel, der Pendentifs und der Hauptpfeiler intensiv erkundet werden. Auf Grundlage der erlangten neuen Kenntnisse zum Konstruktionsgefüge wurden Berechnungsmodelle entwickelt und eine Aussage zum Tragverhalten der Hagia Sophia getroffen.

    Description: In der vorliegenden Abhandlung wird ein System zur autonomen 3D-Umweltmodellierung vorgestellt, welches auf den drei Hauptprozessen Datenaufnahme, Datenintegration und Aktionsplanung beruht. Basis der Modellierung sind dichte Tiefenbilder, generiert durch einen rotierenden Zeilenscanner, mit Punktmerkmalen. Durch die Registrierung aller Daten können die Fehler der odometrischen Lagebestimmung minimiert werden. Anhand der ermittelten 3D-Daten wird die nächste beste Aufnahmeposition ermittelt.

    Description: Der Fokus der Arbeit liegt durch die Berücksichtigung einer Verwendung als Rettungsgerät nicht nur auf dem Abbaugerät, sondern auch auf dessen Wirkung auf den bearbeiteten Gegenstand. Die Studie fußt auf großmaßstäblichen Versuchen an Betonquadern mit einer handelsüblichen Anbaufräse. Die entdeckten Zusammenhänge widersprechen der gängigen Auffassung vom Fräsvorgang; ein eigenes revidiertes Modell wird vorgestellt. Ferner liefert die Studie etliche Anhaltspunkte zur Optimierung der Frästechnik.

    Description: Für die Verwendung von Holzfaserdämmplatten als aussteifende Beplankung von Holztafeln wurden die Grundlagen ermittelt. Für die Berechnung der Tragfähigkeit der Verbindung zwischen Beplankung und Rippen wurden bereits bekannte Gleichungen verwendet und erweitert sowie die Eingangsparameter in Versuchen ermittelt. Weitere Materialkennwerte wurden experimentell bestimmt. Das Trag- und Verformungsverhalten von Holztafeln wurde in Versuchen untersucht und Berechnungsmodellen gegenübergestellt.
