    Description: In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde der Einfluss der Zylindergeometrie (zylindrisch; rippenförmig) auf die Mischcharakteristik eines kontinuierlich durchströmten Taylor-Vortex Reaktors untersucht. Hierfür wurde die Makro- und Mikromischung mittels Spurstoffversuchen, Messung des Rührenergieeintrages und einer chemischen Testreaktion bestimmt.

    Description: Polymer solar cells can be produced by a continuous low cost coating and drying process. This work details a specialized experimental set-up to enable large scale roll to roll processing. Material properties such as surface energy, surface tension, and viscosity are presented and modelled. The impact of coating method, as well as process parameters (e.g. coating speed, shear rate, solvent composition) on process stability and film properties, is discussed.

    Description: This book proposes a novel deep learning based detection method, focusing on vehicle detection in aerial imagery recorded in top view. The base detection framework is extended by two novel components to improve the detection accuracy by enhancing the contextual and semantical content of the employed feature representation. To reduce the inference time, a lightweight CNN architecture is proposed as base architecture and a novel module that restricts the search area is introduced.

    Description: The present study addresses the combination of low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) and hydrocarbon modification reactions (hydroprocessing) in one reactor. The objective of the present investigation was to study the influence of CO during hydroprocessing reactions of hydrocarbon model compounds on two different bifunctional catalysts. In addition, the influence of the catalyst-bed configuration for the combination FTS and hydrocarbon reactions was investigated.

    Description: Der Taylor-Couette Reaktor zeichnet sich aus durch gleichmäßige Mischintensitäten und schonende Mischbedingungen. Die Vermischung in der Taylor-Couette Strömung wurde experimentell untersucht. Die Größenskalen der Vermischung wurden hinsichtlich der Reaktorgeometrie spezifiziert. Basierend auf experimentellen Ergebnissen wurde die Vermischung in der Taylor-Couette Strömung modelliert sowie die Zusammenhänge zwischen Prozessparametern und Mischungszuständen geklärt.

    Description: The utilisation of the C4 streams of steamcrackers by converting raffinate II to maleic anhydride was studied. The oxidation reactions were investigated in a laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor to determine reaction kinetics. The effects of pore diffusional resistance were investigated and explained. A two-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous reactor model was used for the simulation of a production-scale fixed-bed reactor. A flow scheme of the reactor section including a recycle was proposed.

    Description: Various bacteria with hydantoinase activity were recovered from terrestrial soil samples of different geographic origins (Antarctica, South Africa, China). Based on these findings it is shown that microorganisms with hydantoinase activity are (i) distributed in various geographically distinct environmental habitats (ii) distributed worldwide (iii) found in certain bacterial genera.

    Description: The aim of the present work is the mathematical modeling of solid bowl centrifuges for the dynamic simulation of separation processes in real time. The developed compartment model couples the residence time behavior with the material properties and thus allows a time and space-resolved simulation for solid bowl centrifuges. The profound insights into the separation process open up not only a better design, but also new fields of application such as the dynamic flowchart simulation.

    Description: Flow boiling heat transfer, pressure drop and flow pattern of CO?-POE oil mixtures were experimentally investigated in smooth and micro-fin tubes. The POE oil used features full miscibility in the range of operation investigated. The experimental data was evaluated based on mixture properties, used to evaluate and improve established predictive methods. The knowledge obtained contributes to understanding the influence of oil, which is essential for achieving an efficient evaporator design.

    Description: This work focuses on gaseous reactive flows in ideal and non-ideal reactors. The objective of this research is the development of models for the numerical simulation of homogeneous reactive flows under vacuum carburizing conditions of steel with propane and acetylene. These models can be used for further investigations of heterogeneous reactions during vacuum carburizing of steel to predict the carbon flux on the complex shaped steel parts to understand and, eventually, optimize the behavior of the whole reactor.arburizing is the case-hardening process in which carbon is added to the surface of low-carbon steels at temperatures generally between 850 and 1050 °C. In the conventional gas carburizing at atmospheric pressure, the carbon potential is controlled by adjusting the flow rate of the carburizing gas. Carbon potential of the furnace atmosphere can be related to partial pressure of CO2 or O2 or vapour pressure of water by equilibrium relationships and a sensor can be used to measure it. This method of carbon-potential control cannot be used for vacuum gas carburizing due to the absence of thermodynamic equilibrium which is one of the main difficulties of the vacuum carburizing process. The formation of soot during carburization isalso undesirable and the process parameters should be selected such that the formation of soot is minimized. The amount of carbon available for carburizing the steel depends on the partial pressure of the carburizing gas, carbon content in the carburizing gas and the pyrolysis reactions of the carburizing gas. The pyrolysis reactions of the carburizing gas are also affected by the contacting pattern or how the gas flows through and contacts with the steel parts being carburized. This work focuses on gaseous reactive flows in ideal and non-ideal reactors. The objective of this research is the development of models for the numerical simulation of homogeneous reactive flows under vacuum carburizing conditions of steel with ropane and acetylene. These models can be used for further investigations of heterogeneous reactions during vacuum carburizing of steel to predict the carbon flux on the complex shaped steel parts to understand and, eventually, optimize the behavior of the whole reactor. Two different approaches have been used to model the pyrolysis of propane and acetylene under vacuum carburizing conditions of steel. One approach is based on formal or global kinetic mechanisms together with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool. The other approach is based on detailed chemistry with simplified or ideal flow models. Two global mechanisms developed at the Engler-Bunte-Institut for pyrolysis of propane and acetylene respectively were used in this work. One detailed mechanism developed at the Institute of Chemical Technology by the research group of Professor Deutschmann was used for modeling the pyrolysis of both the propane and acetylene. Experimental data from investigations on vacuum carburizing conducted at the Engler-Bunte-Institut were used to validate the modeling results.

    Description: In this work, an approach for adaptive world modeling is proposed. World models for cognitive systems often employ predefined domain models, which may become insufficient when encountering unforeseen entities. The presented approach addresses an adaptive extension of such domain models, considering the relevance of proposed model adaptations. As a basis, a quantitative model evaluation is devised, rating the ability of a domain model to represent the currently observed environment state.

    Description: Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit war die Abschätzung des Potentials keramischer Schwämme als Katalysatorträger. Die dafür notwendigen Untersuchungen wurden mittels der partiellen Oxidation von o-Xylol zu Phthalsäureanhydrid durchgeführt. Im Rahmen der Arbeit wurden zum einen Festbettreaktoren mit Kugeln und Schwammpackungen rein theoretisch auf Grundlage einer Modellrechnung verglichen und zum anderen wurden eine Reihe experimenteller Untersuchungen in einer Laboranlage durchgeführt.

    Description: The general objective of this thesis was to explore the potential of in-situ H2O removal during fuel-related synthesis reactions with focus on in-situ H2O removal by hydrophilic membranes and by chemical reaction. It is demonstrated that in-situ H2O removal through vapour permeation during CO2 hydrogenation to Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbons and during DME/DEE synthesis leads to increased conversion and yield levels, which are directly linked to the degree of H2O recovery.

    Description: Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die partielle einstufige Oxidation von Propan zu Acrylsäure an einem oxidischen Multikomponentenkatalysator mit der Zusammensetzung Mo1V0,33Nb0,17Te0,25Ox. In der vorliegenden Arbeit stehen zwei Gesichtspunkte im Mittelpunkt: grundlegende Untersuchungen zur Reaktionskinetik und die in-situ Charakterisierung des Katalysators unter Betriebsbedingungen mittels Festkörperelektrolypotentiometrie.Die Reaktion sollte mit Hilfe eines möglichst einfachen Reaktionsnetzes und einfacher kinetischer Ansätze qualitativ und quantitativ beschrieben werden. Dabei war neben dem Einfluss der Temperatur, der Einfluss der Eingangsmolenbrüche von Propan, Sauerstoff und Wasser zu untersuchen und zu quantifizieren.Parallel wurde der Einfluss der Gasphasenzusammensetzung auf die Sauerstoffaktivität unter Betriebsbedingungen untersucht. Dabei wurde erwartet mit Hilfe der simultanen potentiometrischen und kinetischen Messungen Rückschlüsse auf die Wirkungsweise des Katalysators ziehen zu können.

    Description: Weit über 25.000 Arten von Mikroalgen stellen ein bislang kaum erschlossenes Potential für die Biotechnologie dar. Sie bilden vielfältige Produkte wie Farbstoffe, ungesättigte Fettsäuren, Polysaccharide und Antioxidanten mit interessanten Einsatzgebieten u.a. in der Lebensmittel- und Kosmetikindustrie. Pharmazeutisch wirksame Produkte aus Mikroalgen sind bekannt, aber noch unzulänglich untersucht. Um ihre Bildung näher verstehen und in größerem Maßstab (scale up) durch geeignete Auswahl von Kultivierungsparametern beeinflussen zu können, wird ein mathematisches Modell entwickelt, welches das Wachstum und die Produktbildung einer einzelligen Mikroalge Porphyridium purpureum abbildet.Die Validierung des entwickelten mathematischen Modells erfolgt durch den Einsatz von geeigneten experimentell gewonnenen Kultivierungsdaten der Mikroalge Porphyridium purpureum in Abhängigkeit von Kultivierungsparametern wie der Lichtquantität oder -qualität in einem am Institut für Mechanische Verfahrenstechnik und Mechanik entwickelten Photobioreaktor. Die experimentellen Untersuchungen zu Wachstum und Produktbildung der Mikroalge sowie die Modellierung ihrer Stoffwechselaktivität zur besseren Vorhersagbarkeit und zur Auslegung von Pilotanlagen stellen die beiden Hauptschwerpunkte dieser Arbeit dar.

In this work it is demonstrated that a tailor made rhodium catalyst retains useful activity for typical sulfur levels in the feed. A brief economic comparison showed however that this alternative process is still less economical than the traditional process employing removal of sulfur components by adsorption.

    Description: Bei der Herstellung von Molkepulver besteht die Schwierigkeit, dass die in dem Ausgangskonzentrat enthaltene gelöste Laktose während der Sprühtrocknung amorph erstarrt. Diese amorphe Form der Laktose ist instabil und kann bei zu feuchten oder warmen Bedingungen die Glasübergangstemperatur überschreiten und so klebrige Eigenschaften erhalten. Durch Nachkristallisationen konnten die Verbackungsneigungen der sprühgetrockneten laktosehaltigen Pulvern vermindert werden.

Daher steht als zusätzlicher Freiheitsgrad die gleich- oder gegensinnige Verdrallung der Einzelströme zur Verfügung.Die durchgeführten Experimente ergeben eine signifikante Erweiterung des Betriebsbereiches der Düse bei gegensinniger Verdrallung. Hierzu zählt die Gasphasenhydrierung von Dimethylmaleat, der Davy-Prozess.Vorteile sind die milden Reaktionsbedingungen und die kombinierte Herstellung von 1,4-Butandiol mit den Folgeprodukten g-Butyrolacton und Tetrahydrofuran. Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit war die gezielte Vermeidung von ungewollter Polymerbildung bei der einstufigen Prozessführung der Gasphasenhydrierung von Dimethylmaleat. Zudem wurden mit einem Cu/ZnO/Al2O3-Katalysator detaillierte kinetische Messungen durchgeführt und eine qualitative und quantitative Beschreibung der Reaktionskinetik mit Hilfe eines möglichst einfachen Reaktionsnetzes realisiert.

Die thermische Charakterisierung der Mikroreaktoren umfasste die Analyse der Temperaturfelder und Erfassung dynamischer Parameter mithilfe von Pt-Dünnschichtsensoren und thermografischen Messungen. Die fluidischen Parameter wurden in Messungen zum Druckverlust, zur Verweilzeit- und Geschwindigkeitsverteilung ermittelt. 3D-FEM- bzw. CFD-Rechnungen dienten im Zuge der Designoptimierung zur Variantenstudie und Analyse experimentell unzugänglicher Bereiche. Experimente und Simulationen wurde anhand analytischer 1D-Modelle validiert. Untersuchungen zum temperaturkontrollierten Kristallwachstum von Modellproteinen zielten auf die Evaluierung des Mikroreaktorkonzepts und dessen Charakterisierung ab.Ein Ergebnis der Arbeit ist der Prototyp eines voll funktionsfähigen Batch-Mikroreaktors auf der Basis von Silizium-Mikrosystemtechnik und Dünnschichttechnologie zur temperaturkontrollierten Kristallisation kleiner Proteinmengen. Weiterhin gelang es durch Integration (mikro-) fluidischer Strukturen, das Mikroreaktorkonzept für den kontinuierlichen Betrieb zum Fluss-Mikroreaktor zu erweitern. Die Mikroreaktorsysteme erfüllen die thermischen und fluidischen Anforderungen der Biokristallisation. Die Temperierung ist im Bereich . = 5°C . 50°C exakt (.T 〈 ±0,1 K) und langzeitstabil (mehrere Tage). Die Einschwingzeiten (ô 〈 10 s) und Temperierraten (dT/dt 〉 ±3 s) erlauben Studien mit dynamischen Temperaturprotokollen. Im gesamten Flusssystem liegen laminare Bedingungen vor.     Description: This work contributes to an improved understanding of the driving mechanisms of the upstream propagation of turbulent premixed flames in enclosed vortex tubes within stationary gas turbine combustion systems. For this purpose, a Flamelet approach based on coupling a transport equation of the flame surface density with the description of laminar Flamelets to turbulent conditions is developed. This coupled approach enables the deduction of an explanation of this flashback phenomenon.

Our approach represents and analyzes data flows in software architectures. Systems specify data flows and confidentiality requirements specify limitations of data flows.
