In her cultural-philosophical critique, Hanne Laceulle outlines counter narratives that acknowledge both potentials and vulnerabilities of later life. She draws on the rich philosophical tradition of thought about self-realization and explores the significance of ethical concepts essential to the process of growing old such as autonomy, authenticity and virtue. These counter narratives aim to support older individuals in their search for a meaningful age identity, while they make society recognize its senior members as valued participants and moral agents of their own lives.

Während diese davon ausgehen, dass ethische und kulturelle Differenzen in einer globalen Praxis nur durch die Rückbindung an universelle Prinzipien zu bewältigen sind, loten die hier versammelten Beiträge jene kreativen Spielräume der wechselseitigen Ergänzung und Selbstreflexion aus, die sich aus der Begegnung verschiedener Wissenskulturen und Wertvorstellungen ergeben.

    Description: Europe, as the title of this collective book indicates, is a project under construction and David Sassoli, who is honored here, one of its most striking and memorable builders. European construction, despite all the deviations and hesitations that distinguish every single genuine human situation, has been based on a set of values that represent our own identity, in the full recognition of all the differences that simultaneously nourish it. Culture has progressively played a major role in this lasting European undertaking. In this chapter, by honoring a man who hoped for a better spiritual condition for Europe, we reassess one of the main instruments for establishing a cultural path in Europe: the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) project. The record and the tone of the following pages is far beyond the usual scope of mere description. Guided by the inspiring example of Sassoli, we face up to suggest a set of measures that will allow the ECOC action to fully meet its purpose, thus contributing to make the cultural option in Europe truly irreversible.

    Description: Spatial and identity research operates with differentiations and relations. These are particularly useful heuristic tools when examining border regions where social and geopolitical demarcations diverge. Applying this approach, the authors of this volume investigate spatial and identity constructions in cross-border contexts as they appear in everyday, institutional and media practices. The results are discussed with a keen eye for obliquely aligned spaces and identities and relinked to governmental issues of normalization and subjectivation. The studies base upon empirical surveys conducted in Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

So entsteht ein konziser Blick auf ein Ereignis, das nicht das letzte seiner Art gewesen sein wird - und ein Plädoyer für eine künftige Pandemiepolitik ohne Tabus.

Anhand einer Archäologie von Architekturen und literarisch-künstlerischen Rezeptionen des Wartens zeigt Robin Kellermann am Beispiel des Eisenbahnverkehrs auf, wie sich Rahmung und Wahrnehmung dieses zeitlichen Zwischenraums im Laufe der Moderne von einem Zustand der würdigen Erwartung und Vorfreude zum Störfaktor der beschleunigten Welt wandelten. Damit erweitert er unser Verständnis der Epoche um ihre vielfach erzeugten Momente des Stillstands und erkundet einen Temporalzustand, der konstitutiv für die Verkehrsentwicklung wurde und trotz aller Auslöschungsversuche untrennbar mit ihr verbunden bleibt.

Die Lebenspraxis zeigt, dass Menschen mehrere Heimaten und Zugehörigkeiten haben, diverse kulturelle und soziale Netzwerke schaffen können und dass sie mit negativen Zuschreibungen von außen kreativ und subversiv umzugehen wissen. Auf diese Weise entwickeln sich postmigrantische, mehrheimische, hybride und transkulturelle Alltagspraktiken, die bisher kaum gewürdigt worden sind. Die Beiträge dieses Bandes verstehen sich daher als Plädoyer für eine andere Sicht der Dinge und als Absage an das vorauseilende Misstrauen, mit dem migrationsbedingten Phänomenen häufig begegnet wird. Jahrhundert lässt sich eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit den möglichen Folgen von Akkulturation, 'Rassenmischung' und Klimaeinflüssen für weiße Reisende und Kolonisten in den Tropen beobachten. Literarische Texte inszenieren den kolonialen Raum als ein Feld interkultureller Begegnungen, das von einer klaren Grenze durchzogen ist - die zu überschreiten tabu bleibt.

Es handelt sich dabei um Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund, also Angehörige einer kulturellen Minderheit, die aber im lateinamerikanischen Kontext aufgrund ihrer Beziehung zu Europa nicht marginalisiert werden, sondern vielmehr eine positive Diskriminierung erfahren. Dies verändert die Diskussion über hybride Identitäten und kulturelle Zwischenräume und ermöglicht einen erweiterten Blick auf Migration, Kultur und Identität.

    Description: Die Geste wurde von der römischen Rhetorik über die Physiognomik bis hin zu den Gesture Studies vordergründig als eine funktionale körperliche Stütze für sprachliche Kommunikation oder als sinnliche Spur geistiger Zustände aufgefasst. Gesten begleiten unsere Diskurse und Gemütslagen und machen diese wahrnehmbar. Über diesen traditionell gültigen Standpunkt hinaus verlagert Luca Viglialoro den Fokus auf den somatisch-medialen Kunstcharakter der Geste, um diese als prozesshafte Technik (ars) für die Modellierung der aísthesis zu konturieren. Dafür werden die komplexen Relationen zwischen Gesten und Kunstreflexionen am Beispiel von medial unterschiedlichen Konfigurationen (von der Schrift und der Zeichnung bis zur Fotografie und Installationskunst) analysiert.

Während Herrschenden-Apotheosen Maßstäbe setzen, an denen real Herrschende scheitern können, zeigen uns Chroniken, wie umkämpft jede Macht ist. Die Beiträger*innen des Bandes zeigen, dass es bei der Instrumentalisierung von Schrift auf die Trägergruppen der Schriftlichkeit, auf Genres und die kulturelle Einbettung ankommt. Anhand von Beispielen, die von der Antike bis in die Zeitgeschichte reichen, beleuchten sie das prekäre Verhältnis zwischen Literalität und Macht.

Die Aneignung seiner philosophischen Konzepte und jener, die er gemeinsam mit Félix Guattari entwickelt hat, findet vor allem innerhalb des architekturtheoretischen Netzwerks der »Anyone Corporation« statt: In ihren Diskursen wimmelt es von glatten Räumen, organlosen Körpern, Rhizomen, Falten, abstrakten Maschinen und Diagrammen. Frederike Lausch zeigt auf, wie sich die »Anyone Corporation« durch die Bezugnahme auf Deleuze als intellektuelle Elite der Architekturdisziplin inszeniert und wie im Zuge der Entpolitisierung seiner Theorien die »Post-Criticality«-Bewegungen entstehen.
